Teach Them To Play Chess

Submitted by TiM on

Monday was, as previously reported, a very wet boring day.  I sat down with the kids and tried to teach them to play chess for a bit, thinking they might enjoy it.  Turns out Beth already knows quite a bit of the rules and the way pieces can move.  Theo knew of Chess, but only via the "ChessKid" app on his iPad but he never really understood what he was doing.  Anyway we played for a little while, I tried to explain the rules to them and they both did a pretty good job.  Theo seemed to enjoy it too, but it was probably a bit much for him really. Still it was something to do rather than just sit around bored.  I was telling my workmates about it yesterday and one of them said he had a lot of success teaching his to play checkers/draughts instead, because it's a much quicker, more fun game for them.  So I'll have to see if we can't drag up a Checkers Board from somewhere to play that.

Walked in to check Theo last night as I went to bed, this is how I found him.  I don't know how he manages to sleep like that, but he does, it's not the first time I've found him like that.  I moved him back up onto his bed properly.

Another rainy day today, it'll be wet riding the ol' bike to work.  Alas!
