Big Little Update

Submitted by TiM on

Only 10 days since I last updated but already it seems like an eon has passed.  So the pool is now in, in.  We can swim in it.  The filter is running, the temporary fencing is up.  The kids spent 3 hours in it non-stop on Wednesday, Theo was so tired afterwards that about 30 seconds after I put him to be he was splayed out on his back fast asleep.  The kids love it anyway, though there's been a few complaints that it's not big enough.  Sorry kiddies, you'll just have to deal with it.  I think it's plenty big.

I felt like I had heaps to write about, but now I've typed it up, it's not much.

Monty our pool guy even dropped off a Dolphin Pool Cleaner Robot for us!  I got him out of his box and put him in the Water and he started cleaning.  Beth named him "Blueberry" which is I think is a great name, but sadly Blueberry worked for 10 minutes and then stopped totally.  We tried all the diagnoistcs on Blueberry, cleaned the bits of him that might get jammed, but we couldn't find anything.  I rang Monty and he said no worries he'll replace it with another he's got.  Poor Blueberry.  It was amazing how much crap he picked up in the 10 minutes he was in the pool though, I look foward to having a little machine do the cleaning instead of me having to get out there with a pool sucker thing and all that crap.

Anyway so yea, last weekend it was stonking hot and the pool filter was there and running, but we didn't want to get in because the concrete bond beam on one side had only just been poured and was still probably a little soft, and the structual stuff was still over the pool, wooden beams and straps and stuff.  We could have got in, but been bumping our heads on those.  But Tuesday came by and Monty came and took those off, showed me how to filter works and how to clean it, how the pump works, how the salt chorinator works, how the heatpump works etc.  It's all out on the concrete pad where the shed is going to go, but doesn't exist yet.  Oh and Monty also put the pool cover and roller on the end of the pool, so that each night the pool can go to sleep.

Now I have to get back in the mindset of checking the pool's PH Levels, Chorine Levels etc etc.  Buying chemicals. Getting out the test strips.  It's a pain, but to see how much the kids love jumping in and swimming and just having a blast, it makes it worth it.

The backyard is still a disaster zone, dirty and shit and wires.  We got the quote from our landscaper to do Phase 1 of the backyard and it's $140k which is just jaw droppingly expensive.  Still. We need to do it, but we will need to find some places to bring those costs down a bit!!

The other fun news is the house water pump died totally.  Why does everything fail at Christmas? At least the plumber came and replaced it with a as-new second hand one that only cost $350.  So quite annoying but at least we have water that's got more pressure than a dead ant once again.

Christmas Day tomorrow.
