Heavy Metal

Submitted by TiM on

Finally got around to taking all the scrap metal from the pool to the metal yard on Saturday morning. Ken from down the road was nice enough to lend me his trailer again - he's a nice guy but won't accept anything as a thank you.  I'll have to ring his wife and see what he likes and get him something like that. I don't even know if he likes a beer or something - he won't tell me.  Anyway after pulling out all that metal I'm now $78 richer.

Took the kids swimming, they're getting a little bit better each week.  Beth's dives were good, and Theo's "survival backstroke" was much better - he actually moved this week.  The last few weeks there's lot of kicking/splashing etc but not much movement.  When we got back home Sarah had already left with Holly and Mary to go to Danniverke for lunch with Amy.  I spent an hour building a new shelf that Sarah got for Beth's room, the ol' flat pack.  I even managed to get it built right the first time.  I did take it really, really slowly though.

That afternoon I took the kids to Anderson Park to take the Crazy Cart for a spin - Theo had another great time driving it around in "Fast" mode, Beth sat next to me on the park bench and read her book.  I mean I say that, she probably ready 1 page max and spent most of it talking to me, wanting a snack, or putting her rubbish in the bin.  I say the bin thing because the bin was on the other side of the park and she asked if she could walk over there and put the rubbish in.  I said no worries and I promise I'll still be sitting on the same park bench and look at those two houses behind us, look for those if you get lost.  Anyway off she went and then suddenly, I couldn't see her at all.  5 mintues passed, still couldn't see her in the distance.  Panic was starting to rise but I knew I'd told her I wouldn't leave the park bench I was on.  Theo was still going back and forth on the Crazy Cart.  Then in the distance I spotted a figure doing cartwheels.  Phew! And sure enough she walked back over slowly and she was back.  And I tried hard not to show how worried she'd made me.  Of course, she'd just decided when she was there to also go to the Toilet.  So all good.  I just thought someone had stolen my Daughter for 10 minutes there, but they hadn't.

We got back home, I lit the fire, the kids watched their iPads.  Sarah arrived home, we had some chicken for dinner and then Google rang again for about the 20th time so I talked to them.  And thankfully we know the eventual outcome of that call!

Sunday morning Beth woke us up about 8am (I had the best sleep I've had in 4 weeks) and I got up and make Piklets.  Sarah went for a walk with her friend Nicola. When she got back she went to the Supermarket, while Theo and I tried to make his present from Granny, the Spirograph Machine.  Mostly I had to make it for him, as it was very very small and fiddly and the instructions were in Chinese.  But he helped where he could, screwing in some of the screws.  Once it was built, it worked the first time!  I gotta say, I was quite impressed with myself!  Theo did a spirograph with it and was pretty damn impressed with the machine I have to say.  Thanks Granny!

Then Sarah went out to Hastings to do some shopping for bits we needed, so she dropped the 3 of us at the bottom of Dobel and we walked up it.  It was FREEZING at the top, the poor kids.  I mean they had warm clothes on, but damn it was cold.  Even I was cold.  They still enjoyed it though Theo fell over a couple of times on the way back down.  We walked from there into Taradale where Sarah met us at Origin cafe and we all had a warm drink and a sweet treat to cheer ourselves up!

Then last night I took Biscuit for a nice long run, it was a perfect moonlit night so I didn't even need my headtorch on, I could see by the light of the Moon.  Seems like while I was out jogging a lot of places in Jervoistown got done over by some crime dude, looks like thankfully we weren't one of them.

And here we are and it's Monday morning.  Back to work, back to school for the kids.
