The Long Catchup

Submitted by TiM on

As always, time gets away from me and before I know it's months later and I haven't updated my diary!

Well the big event of course is that Bethany Bongles turned 7!  She's getting so grown up now, the way she talks back to us, her strong held opinions on things.  The fact that getting her to eat dinner ever night is now an actual chore that neither Sarah nor I really look forward to.  There's an ever growing list of things that she doesn't like and doesn't want to eat.

She had all her friends come over for a Birthday Party last weekend, Emma, Gemma, Gwen, Layla and Ruby.  They had a pizza party, ran around like mad things on the trampoline, painted their own mugs that Sarah then baked in the oven to keep the picture on.  Theo wasn't too impressed that he was basically ignored, but as I explaind to him 562 times, Beth felt the same when it was his birthday a few months earlier.

Then of course last Wednesday was her actual birthday.  She got a new bike, a label maker, a lovely new poncho from Granny, two tennis rackets and tennis balls.

She loves the label maker but doesn't seem to fussed at all about the bike.  Mostly I think she's annoyed that it doesn't have a carrier on it like her old bike, I can imagine that sometime this week I'm going to have to try to migrate the carrier over to the new bike so that animals and things can still go on rides.  But yes, so far 6 days later she hasn't even tried to ride her new bike!

What else what else - I took last Monday off to spend the day with the kids.  Well I had to, it was a day when the teachers were off school so it was either that, or Sarah looked after them (she'd already looked after them on Friday, same deal) or they went to daycare.  Anyway we had a nice day, we went and played Mini Golf, then went and got an Icecream, then went to the bike park for an hour.  Then we had to go and pickup Beth's new glasses!

She's not really wearing them that much at the moment, we probably need to encourage her more.  I put a little note in her lunchbox today, hopefully that will encourage her.

What else? We've signed the pool contract and sent it through, plus paid our deposit.  Wowsers.  I've chainsawed and put away a bunch of wood, the kids helped me weekend just gone to pick up all the bricks around the base of the Feijoa tree and we stacked those behind the carport.

Beth went to Tennis lessons the weekend just gone, not really even lessons just a try out session to see if she liked it.  She seemed to have a really good time, you know she's enjoying something when she doesn't stop to keep looking back for Me/Sarah.  She was just focused on what she was being told and the things she had to do, it's good that she enjoyed it.

Brewed a beer on Saturday night after a full day of doing stuff outside in the yard.  Put my new Tilt Hydrometer in it finally, it's the first beer I've made in a while.  I also made it with Kveik yeast, which is a yeast you can ferment at 35-40c instead of the usual low ranges.  It's pretty much fully fermented in 2 days which is quite amazing, be interesting to see the result and if it turns out any good or not.  I have high hopes!

Works good, deployed a change into the network for the big S last week though and broke management of the Cell Sites (only some of them) so we had to roll that back pretty quick smart.  Have just today submitted the change again which should fix that.

Bit of a rough weekend for Sarah, she had a really bad headache and was crook for most of it.  Still she got up early on Sunday morning with the kids to make a bacon and egg sandwich for the kids to bring up for Father's Day.  That was nice, they made me lovely little card etc at school that I enjoyed reading.

That's probably enough for the moment, I've gotta get back to work.  I have to send my Fenix 6 Pro watch back for repair or replacement, the main button has stopped working most of the time, or if it does work it does a double press etc.  It's really annoying.  I hope they fix it soon.

This weekend there's lot more work outside to do, hope the weather is nice!  I'll be picking up paving tiles from around the (old) pool tonight.  Joy of Joys!
