Old Tech / New Tech

Submitted by TiM on

On the weekend I bought one of these of a guy who'd upgraded his chess computer setup to this.  I've got computer programs for chess on my phone and on my normal computer, but I missed having actual pieces and a board to stare at.  This old girl is over 30 years old now, but it still works a treat and is just like the old one I used to have back when I was a kid.  The software is the same, the lights/errors are the same, it's just a bit better.  It's a nice old piece of tech that does one thing and does it well, it plays chess.  I've beaten in on level 0, but level 0 is listed in the manual as the "Handicap" level.  Doh.

Google released the Pixel 4 today.  I'd really like one, though I'm quite annoyed they've removed the Unlimited Storage in Original Quality for photos/videos taken on it.  I still get that (for it's lifetime!) on my original Pixel 1.  The Pixel 4 looks quite amazing though, excellent camera with really good zoom, all that stuff.  I will get one once the reviews are in and it doesn't suck.  Which I doubt it will, but you never know.  Since I got the battery replaced in my Pixel it's been so much better to use, I don't have to lug a brick around with me everywhere etc.

Anyway, old tech and new tech.  The old computer chess board is very cool.  Though it takes 4 C size batteries, those are pretty rare these days!

What else? Biscuit is at the chop shop today, they said he's waking up well and can be picked up soon.  Good boy Biscuit.  It's PISSING with rain today, everywhere is a floodder.  I've got an annoying chest cold/cough, same thing Beth's had I think.  Work is mental busy! The end.
