Chicken Fucking Pox

Submitted by TiM on

Well, what a shit week last week was!  I started feeling really shitty on Saturday afternoon, just really tired and yucky.  Saturday night I was all hot and cold, shivery and just really not at all happy.  Sunday the same, we didn't do anything at all because I just felt terrible.  Poor kids.  Monday morning when I woke up I noticed a strange raised blister on my arm.  I didn't think too much of it, until I showed Sarah.  "That's a Pox!" she said!  I didn't think I could possibly have Chickenpox, but reading the symptoms a bit more it did start to sound a bit like that.  So I went up to the Dr's, who quickly moved me into my own special room when I said to the receptionist that I thought I probably had chickenpox.

Sure enough a quick discussion with the Nurse and then the Dr, it was Chickpox.  I thought I'd been back to get my vaccination for it at the same time that Theo had had his.  But no, I hadn't go it at the time because the Nurse talked me out of it as a waste of money, saying I'll already have had Chickenpox, or the vaccination for it.  She did give me a bloodtest at the time though and it had come back as negative for having had Chickenpox or Vaccination, but of course I totally forgot to go back and get the damn thing.  I was kicking myself!

So basically last week I was at home, doing a bit of work when I felt up to it, with the Chickenpox.  How stupid.  I was so angry and annoyed with myself for getting them.  A stupid, preventable thing and I'd forgotten to go and get the vaccination.  Muppet 101.  And now of course I can get shingles (though there's a vaccine for it too).  Most of the horrible blisters have scabbed over, I've accidentally pulled/rubbed/Biscuit-has-scratched a few of the scabs off, so no doubt those will scar.  Annoying, not much I can do though.

ANYWAY.  On the Saturday before I got sick, Sarah did her duathlon.  Far out the poor girl, the wind was freezing and it was blowing an utter gale.  The event organisers even shortened the bike leg because of how terribly windy it was.  We went out and dropped her off and helped get setup, but we had to come back because Theo would just not stop complaining about everything.  It was hard though, it was so bitingly cold and windy.  The kids seem to really struggle when things aren't about them, they don't know what to do.  So I took them back home for a couple of hours, then we went back out to see Sarah finish.  The kids got to run over the finish line with Sarah, which they thought was pretty cool.

And then yea, I was sick for a week.

Yesterday, Sunday, I felt OK for the first time in 7 days.  We went out to the Farmer's market, which was nice, then Theo and I took the wheelbarrow down to see Bruce and dig out a bunch of Strawberry plants.  We planted Theo's sunflowers first of all, then I planted ~30 odd Strawberry plants in the garden.  There's still probably 20 odd plants in the wheelbarrow, I'd better try and plant those tonight before they dry out and die.  I was pretty knackered after planting the first 30 though.  The pox are still sapping the energy.

And here we are today, first day back at work.  Sarah's not feeling well now (She doesn't have Pox) so I took the kids to school this morning.

Here's to being Healthy!!!

Update: Oh yes I forgot to mention that during the week, Sarah dragged me from my sick bed to go up and watch Beth run in her cross-country.  She did SO WELL as well!  When I saw her she was actually really running, powering along.  She saw me, waved, but didn't stop and keep going really fast.  She came 7th!  So proud of her, she really focused on what she was doing and did a great job of it.  I wish I'd filmed it, but I'm just glad I saw her doing it.  She was amazing.
