Weighty Issues

Submitted by TiM on

Oh dear.  Nothing like a holiday to help you put on 5kg+.  I stepped on the scales on Friday and I was back to 90kg.  What a ripper! Time to start doing a bit more exercise again, maybe my running days aren't as far behind me as I thought.  We'll see.  I've been taking Biscuit for a nice early morning walk each day, I think it's good for him to go every day, we get to do a little bit of training and voice control which is good.  Though people probably don't really appreciate me barking commands at Biscuit at quarter past 6 in the morning.

Sallee and Bill are here, which is great!  They've been around most nights to play with the kids, pick them up from school etc.  When I got home tonight Bilby was reading a book to Theo, and Beth and Granny were folding washing.  We never fold our washing, so you know Granny's here when you open a drawer and things are all folded away.

So what's been happening?  We just bought a new X-Trail on Saturday.  Our current one is pretty old, it's 12 years now and it's done 150+km.  This new one is a 2018 model and it's only done 8k.  So that's pretty good.  We should be able to pick it up on Thursday.

It's been a bit hard adjusting to getting back to work/school etc.  On Tuesday morning Beth grabbed my leg in the kitchen, squeezed it tight and said "Daddy, I miss Thailand."  Me too little sausage, me too.  She really doesn't seem to want to go to school at the moment, we're hoping it's just post-holiday blues.  We rode our bikes to Ukulele yesterday, she came within micro millimeteres of driving off into the ditch along Meeanee Road.  Gosh it was close.  She didn't notice though.  I've also been spending more time this week practicing her uke with her, her friend Emma went up into the next class and I think Beth misses her.  Plus me playing with her is already increasing her confidence etc in her playing.  And it's fun, I enjoy it.

Saturday morning we went out to look at the new car we were going to buy, Sarah had already done all the negotiating with them so I couldn't bargain them down any further.  I took it for a test drive, tested out the in car info system, the phone hands free etc.  All seemed to work really well, better than some of the reviews I read online suggested.

After that we went to see Granny and Bilby at Maisy and Wal's place, stopped in there for a cup of tea.  Beth and Theo stayed behind for a while, Sarah and I went out to Havelock North for some lunch at a new Japanese Dumpling place that had opened up, same place where a great little icecream parlor was a year or so ago.

And really, not a lot else has been happening.  I've been trying to take Biscuit for a walk every morning, now I'm not running for my Marathon anymore I've got time to spend with him.  Still means I'm getting up at 5:30 so I can take him for a 40 minute walk before the kids wake up.  Back to biking to work.

Otherwise yea, I think that's about it.  A pretty boring update, but it's been pretty boring back-to-work really.  Just gotta lose the weight I put on in Thailand (and probably before it, to be honest with myself) and yea, keep it there.  Speaking of, I bought myself a Vinci's T-Shirt yesterday.  They make such good Pizza, I love them.  I hope they open an outpost at Brave, it'd be perfect.  Or even better, I hope they get a liquor license and start selling Brave beer.  Yes, I've told Vincent this multiple times already!

Other boring news: Little QOTOM box at home started throwing out lots of disk errors after upgrade to Proxmox 6.  Hope I don't have to buy it a new SSD, I can't arsed copying VM's over etc.  And I'm too tight to buy a new SSD anyway.
