In Auckland

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from a couch in a small apartment in the heart of Auckland! Sarah and I are up here, along with Holly and Adrian, for the Six60 concert tonight.  It's going to be a huge, it's the front page of the paper how big it's going to be.  A sold out 50,000 people are going to attend.

We arrived yesterday afternoon after flying up and Ubered into town.  In fact we have Ubered everywhere, it's mental.  It's easier/cheaper than hiring a car, all the hassle of having to park it etc etc.  It certainly makes popping here there and eveywhere for a drink super easy, I can see why it's so popular.  I hope it comes to Napier, but given how small Napier is I doubt it probably will.  Or at least not for a few more years yet.

Theo's cough is still quite bad, though I haven't seen him today because he's at home in Napier with Grandma and Auntie Maggie looking after him and Beth.  But he had Wednesday and Thursday off.  I got call Tuesday from Kindy "Theo's here he's got a major temp, bad cough and we're worried about his breathing" so I flew home to get him ASAP.  I arrived there expecting almost to have a child that I'd need to rush to hospital but instead there was a happy and slightly bemused Theo waiting for me.  Kindy made me sign a thing that said we recommend you take him to the Dr, so I took him to the Dr and they basically said "You're an idiot, he's fine, take him home for some Pamol and rest".  So I did that, doh.  Grandma says that his cough is much better though so I hope when we get home tomorrow that it's improved 100%.  It's stressing me out to the max how long the cough is going on for.

The battery for the Dyson carked it last week.  I back and forth emailed them a bunch of times but they said I'd have to buy a new one.  I was crabby, I'd only bought it 6 months ago so I got on the phone to them.  The guy on the phone was very sorry and sent me a new one straight away.  Then finally the email people saw the light too and send me one, without checking my account etc.  So now I have two Dyson batteries I think.  Now it'll be the palava about sending one back.

We got a cleaner.  She's a lovely lady and she does such an amazing job.  I have never, ever, seen the shower as clean as it is.  I didn't think it was possible for it to be as clean as it is.  But it is, super clean.  So everything else.  She's such a nice lady too, I had a chat to her when I bought Theo home with his life-or-death temp.

Biscuit is going well.  I've taught him "down" as well, though he still stuffs it up sometimes.  But he's very eager to be trained, still doing a great job learning etc.  The hardest part is going to the classes, because of all the other dogs around he goes utterly mental.  He just gets so excited he can't control himself.  Once he's calmed down he's great, but the problem is it takes him half the class to get calm.  I hope he grows out of it!

Gosh I can't remember anything from the last two weeks, what we've done etc.  So I'm going to click publish on this, but I'll go back and edit it a bit when I do.  Plus the laptop is nearly out of batteries and we'll be heading off to the concert soon!

Update: 28/2

A few other things I've remembered.  Last weekend I did a 17km run, I left home and ran to Sarah's parents via a cool route Sarah found for me online.  Lots of paths etc, it was really enjoyable.  Well... The route was great and enjoyable, having to run 17km isn't exactly super enjoyable.  But I did it no worries, so I am quietly confidant as long as I keep up my training I will actually be able to struggle through 42 big ones.  We'll see.  But anyway as I was jogging the last 10 minutes towards Peter and Mary's, Sarah drove past in the car tooting and waving for support.  That was pretty cool, she'd seen where I was on the phone GPS and driven by to give some support.  And then when I was 200m from home the kids came rushing down to road to join me running to the house for the last bit, which was really really cool, them smiling and laughing and giggling towards the end make for a fantastic end to a long run.  Once at Peter and Mary's we all jumped in the pool which was really nice.

Next day the four of us went out to Birdwoods for some lunch, the kids love Birdwoods now because they know it has a lolly shop.  So that was nice, then that evening we took Biscuit for a walk up to the shop.  Or maybe that was the Saturday night, it's all a bit hard to recall now, but we had a nice weekend that much I do know!
