Is This Thing On?

Submitted by TiM on

Wow time has gotten away from me.  It's not because I've been sitting still, far from it!  So all the new windows are in (I am sure I must have written about this) in fact they were in before Christmas.  But we had to get the architraves painted and done, so Sarah organised TopCoat painters to come and paint them.  Stelios came and give them the treatment and they're all done and dusted and looking good now, he was here pretty much all last week.  He also painted the downstairs bathroom too, so it's no longer a bizarre faded purple colour.  So that's nice it's all painted and pretty much finished.  Sarah also organised new blinds for the kids rooms, the spare room and one in the dining room for the big window there.  The blind man came over and installed those on Saturday.  So no longer do we have to poke up foam squares to block out the light in the kids rooms!

I was crook for 3-4 days last week, as was Theo.  Not really sure what/where it came from, but we both had the shits for a few days.  I felt very average Sunday and Monday, I took us both to the Dr on the Monday but he just said yup it's probably a virus, you'll get over it in a few days.  Which was correct, we did.  Very kind of him to see both me and Theo and still only charge me $20.  Most Dr's would give me the full $45 price or whatever it is.  So I didn't do a real lot last Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.  Stayed in bed most of the time, though I did still take Biscuit for a walk around the block a couple of times.

The week before I took Thursday and Friday off.  On Thursday we all piled into the car and drove out to Waipatiki Beach, where Holly and Age + kids were camping for a few nights.  What a great place it was!  There's a small stream for the kids to play in, there's a proper beach.  The camp ground is awesome.  I think we'll have to book a trip there sometime this year, the kids will love it.  Well, they did love it, they spent ages jumping into and out of the creek/stream.  Sarah went off to jump into the surf with the girls and came back with the bad news she'd really badly rolled her knee.  She didn't think it was that bad, but by the time we'd packed up and driven back it had gotten really bad when she tried to get out of the car.  She went up to the A&E and they just said it's probably a sprain and to rest up and take it easy.  However even today she's still in a knee brace and it's slowly getting better, but it's not great.

What else?  Theo's back at Kindy, Beth has been hanging out with Sarah during the day.  But Sarah last week found a gymnastic day thing, so she took Beth to it for a 1 hour trial to see what she thought.  Beth was quite nervous about it, but came back after an hour BEAMING about it, loved it.  Today when Sarah dropped her off for the first full day she was very excited and just off she went.  So I hope it goes well for her, sounds like it will.  Beth had her friend Ashley over on Friday for the day, I met up with Sarah, Peter and the girls at Palmers for lunch.  Beth's friend was very funny.  "Look at Beth lying on the trampoline.  She's just doing a 'look at me' pose" and lots of other various funny observations (all correct) about Beth.  She's not much older than Beth but she seemed like she was 2 years older some of the stuff she was coming out with.

Biscuit's going great.  Getting better.  I've been taking him for lots of walks, he's gone from jumping every time a car drives by to just being quite suspicious about cars, other dogs, birds that get to close, long grass.  People, however, well he freakin' loves people.  Doesn't matter who they are, he can't wait to jump up and wag his tail off at them. He starts puppy school this week, though actually it's not really until next week for him, this week is just the orientation for the dog owners.  But he's doing really good, mostly wees outside now, hasn't pooped inside in ages, touch wood.

Sometime last week, or last weekend, I took the kids up Dobel reserve for a walk.  They had a good time, though Beth fell over running on the path back down and grazed u her knees.  She was VERY upset that I didn't seem to care.  I mean I did, but I'd also told her not to run and she flat out ignored me, so when she came a cropped I had to say well I did warn you.  When she got back home she reported to Sarah that I "Didn't even care" as if I'm some sort of super monster.  Biscuit handled the walk really well, seemed to enjoy it.  Got quite tired towards the end, I'm not surprised it was 2km, 1 km up the hill, 1 km down, in the hot sun.  Everyone was pretty knackered at the end.

I fixed the front derailleur on my bike last night.  It took me about 2 hours and some YouTube reading/watching but I finally understood what they were telling me.  Still took a bit to adjust it so it worked properly, but I rode to work this morning with no issues.  So that was good.

4 months out until the Marathon.  My weight over the Christmas period stopped its decline, but it didn't start going back up either which is good.  I can still do 10km no worries, even with 5 days off due to sickness.   The running belt Sarah got me makes things a lot easier, it's great.

I have no doubt I've missed a bunch of stuff.  Oh yes Saturday we went to Peter and Mary's for the afternoon and had a swim in their pool.  Everyone was amazed at how good/keen Theo is in the water.  Definitely having a pool at home where they can practise has helped their confidence a lot.  Sunday we went out to 3 little birds Cider house for a meal and then stopped at the fruit shop up the road to get an icecream.  That was a nice little outing.

Ok well I think that's about it.  I know I'll have missed things, but we'd had a good couple of weeks minus the shits and Sarah's twisted/bung knee.
