Biscuit Arrives
Well the big news of course is that we are now a family of 5, having picked up Biscuit the dog on Saturday afternoon. There were 3 names in contention, Biscuit, Hubble (Scrubble) and Dougal. But Beth really liked Biscuit, Joseph suggested it too so it was the winner in the end.
Saturday morning we drove down to Dannevirke, stopping in at Wendy and Rex's house before heading off to the Dannevirke Santa Parade. Beth and Theo seemed to enjoy it, though Theo was feeling a little bit under the weather having had a couple of rough nights sleeping with a mild cold. Thursday night he woke in the night to tell me that ladybirds were crawling up his wall, Friday night he woke up to tell me that plants were growing up under his bed. Pamol fixed that both times.
After the Santa Parade we went back to Wendy and Rex's, then I zipped off in the car to pickup Biscuit. He'd been raised with a family of 6 children, so he's had plenty of socialisation with little ones, which is good. After paying the remaining $300 for him, I headed back with him in the cage. I put the cage outside and asked Beth and Theo to come outside to see what the noise was. They were pretty excited, if a little unsure. But they soon got to playing with him on the front lawn, having a great time while Biscuit chased them around. The only thing is because he's little, Theo tends to fall over into a ball to protect himself, but of course Biscuit not knowing any better thinks this is a great chance to nip him on the head/ears which understandably Theo isn't a huge fan of.
Once we said goodbye to Dannevirke we drove home, I thought it would be quite rough for ol' Biscuit, having just been separated from his siblings (5 others) and his Mum and Dad, but he didn't seem to mind at all. He basically conked out in his cage and slept most of the way home. Theo slept for half of it, Beth didn't sleep but was pretty happy I think mostly because she now had a pet dog.
At home Theo helped me drag his new dog bed out of the cupboard, we took it downstairs and Biscuit took an instant liking to it. And he slept in it all night, next to our bed, with hardly a peep! He rolled over a few times and growled a bit in his sleep, but otherwise he was a champion! I really expected the first night to be quite rough, but it wasn't at all.
Sunday was mostly spent at home, just playing with Biscuit, trying to get the kids to understand what they can and can't do with him. We did go to the Vet store early in the morning and got some toys for him, a rope chew toy, an Octopus and a ball you can put treats in.
Beth has taken a huge liking to him, as expected, and spent the day trying to drag him around various places and play with him. When I told her it was time to get him to sleep she closed all the blinds in the lounge, put him in his bed and lay next to him on the couch to get him to go to sleep. It was very cute.
Riding my bike home tonight and I was halfway home when I heard my bike making funny sounds. Checked it out, it was ok, but I did think pedalling was sort of difficult. Checked back tyre oh dear. Massive nail sticking out of it. So I had to walk the last 3km home, which took ages. Oh well, got home in the end.
Didn't do any training for my Marathon last week. Stupid knee. It's still dodgy. If it keeps up I'm going to have a see a physio. I still want to do the damn Marathon. Being old sucks.
We're sleeping biscuit in the laundry for the first time tonight. Seems to be happy in there, we'll see how he goes.
