Dicky Knee

Submitted by TiM on

I'm sitting on the couch when I should really be out jogging.  But my right knee was very sore yesterday, not really sure why as it didn't hurt much on Sunday and the last day I went jogging was Saturday.  Anyway I thought I'd better take it easy, not trying to blow up a knee or anything here.  All my alarms still go off at 5:30am though, so I'm still getting up bright and early.  If I had to catch a 6:30am plane these days it would be no problem at all.

We had a nice weekend, though it was a bit miserable weather wise.  Saturday I went for a 5km run in the morning (after making the kids the Saturday morning pancakes) and then took Theo to swimming.  Then spent the morning playing with the new doorlock to see how I could integrate it into things.  Once we'd had enough fiddling with that (Sarah is able to ask her phone to unlock the door now and it works) we went out to the Havelock North Street Festival.  It was very quiet out there, lots of stalls and a few bouncy castles etc, but not the hoards of people I was expecting.  Maybe because it was cold and rainy, or maybe we just arrived after all the main activities had finished and it was winding down.  Anyway the kids had a good time, we got a bite to eat, they went on the bouncy castles for a while and then got their faces painted by Fairy Rosebud who was there.

Saturday night Sarah's friend David came over for dinner, he's just landed a job in Hawke's Bay and is moving his family down here.  Had a nice night in chatting to him.  Sunday morning we were going to go to the Ahuriri Street festival except it was cancelled because of all the rain.  So instead we took the kids out to the market and had a good time out there, Theo did some great dance moves.  It was cold and wet out there too but no one seemed to mind.  Then we did a quick visit to The Warehouse, then back home for a lazy afternoon. As a family we made Pasta for dinner with the pasta machine.  The kids helped, and grizzled, and moaned, and helped make the pasta.  You imagine it's going to be so much fun and happy faces likes you on Instagram, in reality it's "If you can't let your sister have a turn you need to go and have a lie in your room for 5 minutes" *WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH*.  Still, we made tasty pasta. I was going to go out for my Sunday walk as my training plan requires but it was super pissing with rain again so I didn't bother.

I got Theo another book from the library called Demolition.  It's like Dig, Dump, Roll.  He was super, super excited to read it last night which is good.  He also loves helping Sarah in the kitchen.  He'll give up playing to help set the table, carrying all the plates and cutlery up.  Last night I arrived home and the table was beautifully set with a sprig of rosemary next to each setting, plus 2 cherries for some reason.  It looked very professional.

And now it's 6:45am and I'm sure Theo will be here in a minute with Big Bae for his morning cuddle on the couch.  In fact I can hear him hiffing down the hallway now.
