Isla's Birthday, 10km, Theo's Cricket, Beths Reading Award
Ran 10km on Saturday morning. My training plan only called for 5km, but I felt like I could 10km easily and I really wanted to see if how I felt reflected how I would actually go! And I did it. I reckon if I'd had to, I could have run another 10km and not been too sore either. I wasn't too tired, or too sore afterwards, something that was a nice change from how I used to feel (back when we lived in Auckland) and I did runs of that distance. I think dropping some weight has certainly helped, I am still calorie counting and all that sort of jazz to try and get down to my 75kg Marathon goal. Even if I just get to 80kg I'll be happy, that'll still be ~14kg lighter than when I started and much easier on my knees!
It was Isla's 4th birthday on Saturday, so we all headed over there after Theo and I had done swimming. Theo was great at swimming and it was lovely to see Jilly back in the pool taking the children. The other instructors are great, but there's something about Jill the children just really respond to. Theo did a great job as usual, his run and jump off the mat was with great gusto, I wish I had a waterproof camera to film him doing it! He's getting so confidant in the water though, he's just like his sister now, it's great.
Isla's party was great, shame it was a little bit wet when it started but thankfully the rain stayed away once the party got underway. Lots of kids turned up, there was a Frozen bouncy castle which of course was a hit, especially because it had a little slide you could bounce down. Theo wasn't sure at first but once he got the hang of it thought it was the greatest thing ever, Beth wasn't 100% at first either but after a while was riding on the edge of the slide and bossing the other children around telling them what they should and shouldn't be doing. After a while Theo wanted to try cricket with the bat and ball that was there and he was really quite good! Seemed to have a close eye for the ball, whacked it more than I thought he would! Really enjoyed it too, and talked about it a bit afterwards, so that might be a sport for him. Though he keeps talking about Rugby too, ugh.
After the party we stayed to help clean up, then Age and I went to the West Shore Inn for a couple of beers and to pickup dinner from Pak. I had 3 pints of beer and far out, it hit me like a train!! I was quite trolleyed. I guess this is what happens when you run 10km in the morning and then eat not much more than 7 or 8 mini sausage rolls and 10 smarties. Oh dear. Dinner was still good, if a tad hazy.
Sunday I took the kids to Mitre10 to buy a Smart lock for the new front door we'll be getting soon. It'll mean we can enter/exit by typing in a pin number, or hopefully once I get a few other gizmos sorted out, if someone rings and says "I need to be let in" we can do it remotely over the Internet. Will be quite handy when we forget our keys etc. Once we'd done Mitre10 we went for a walk up Dobel Reserve, then went into town for some Mexican. Then we went to Rebel Sports to buy some presents for Christmas and Theo had a TOTAL meltdown that we weren't buying him a cricket bat/ball/anything-cricket-related. By the end of this, everyone was so tired that we came home and everyone crashed out for 2-3 hours! The kids had been up late the night before. After we woke up and had dinner I took the kids for another long walk to try and tire them out again, didn't really work because no-one got to sleep until ~9:30pm or so, argh! Still they managed to wake up this morning without too much hassle, but we put them to bed ~6:30pm tonight so that hopefully they'll be on schedule for tomorrow.
Teacher's Strike tomorrow, so Beth's off to Grandma's along with Theo. Thanks Mary, I hope they're not too much trouble.
Beth came home with an award in her bag on Friday, we didn't open up her bag and I only found it this morning when I went to pack her lunch. Silly chicken, Sarah mentioned it to this teacher this morning and she said it's odd Beth didn't mention it seeing as when they hand them out they make a huge deal of them and clap and cheer etc in front of the assembly. Oh well, good on her for getting it, Sarah got them a little reward of a balloon from the New World florist because they're always asking for one. Theo got one too because he was good and didn't HIT anyone today, le sigh. At least his nits are all gone, took him for a haircut on Saturday and they didn't say anything.
Last Sunday night Sarah and I went to a FAWC event, Mexican Night at The Emporium. It was a great night, someone came to babysit the kids, which they loved, and we had lovely Mexican food and some very exotic tequila's. Their whole thing was that tequila has a reputation for being hot and burning, but nice proper tequila can be really lovely. The food was great though and the company was interesting, we had a really good night. I did bike to work a little bit slower on the Monday morning though, it was a shame that the Saturday night event sold out so quickly!
Hmmmmm what else? Sarah is trying a new Foodbag, called Hello Fresh. I think it's better than MyFoodBag, you get more food for the same amount of money, and there seems to be less little pottles of stuff. It's good to have some extra food to take for lunch each day, I've been taking lunch every day pretty much since I started my training for the Marathon, having some nice leftovers for the next day is always welcome. I made one of the meals for the kids last night, of course they just grizzled and moaned and it took all sorts of threats to get them to eat some of it. Finally they did eat it though.
Peter Chats had his hip replacement a couple of weeks ago, I think I forgot to mention that already. Saw him for the first time at Isla's party, he was looking pretty tired the poor thing. Still, he's probably doing too much too soon, it's supposed to take at least 6 weeks for the pain etc to go away. So good on him for attending, but seesh, poor guy. One down one to go too.
Work has been going through a restructure, though I found out today that all of Napier is safe, for the moment at least! Hopefully we pick up some more work soon and we'll be right as rain. Was a little bit scary for a while there.
Ok enough writing, time to get to bed cause I'm getting up at 5:30am tomorrow to go running, joy of joys!
