Dropping Kilos, Dropping Jobs, Knitting

Submitted by TiM on

I've stuck with my running, getting up most mornings at 5:45am to go jogging.  Jordan from work has come with me a couple of times which is good, he's young, has long legs and runs fast.  Though he's been sticking to my pace, but I looked at his Strava times and it shows when he jogs from his place to mine, he does 1km in under 5 mins.  My average pace is 1km per 6 minutes.  So I need to start letting him set the pace and seeing if I can keep up, if I can do 5m per km instead of 6, well I'll be out on the track for ~42 minutes less.  Not sure that'll actually happen though, more of a pipe dream than anything.  Anyway I'm down from the 90kgs into the very top of the 80kgs.  Slowly but surely.

Redundancies were announced at work this week.  Well, a restructure I should say was put out for consultation, that thing where everyone write their feedback to the management team and then in a week's time nothing changes and two people lose their job.  I'm not super worried, I have bought a lot of business into the company and know lots about both our internal and external customers, but redundancies are never a good time regardless.  Have to wait and see what drops out.  I've been working my butt off trying to drum up more business, speaking with old workmates that I haven't talked to in years, seeing what's out there, who's doing what etc.  The industry is certainly changing and I hope that we can change enough with it quickly enough for us to be in a good solid place for the next 10 years. If not, I might have to kick the dog lady off the back section and start reading up on "How to be a good farmer"

Took Theo to swimming last Saturday, the first time with our new instructor Meg.  She's been learning from the other instructors for the last few times we've been there, but it was her time to shine and she was really good.  Theo loved it.  Once swimming was over he and I went to Mitre10 for a while, he finally managed to climb up the rope ladder all by himself, something he's been trying to do for the last year but has always got too nervous/scared about.  This time once he'd done it once he was away, he kept climbing up there over and over again.  Sarah came to pick us up after having dropped Beth off at her friend's place for a Birthday party.

Saturday night we went to the Arthur Miller Halloween festival, which was really good.  Apparently they were expecting about 400 people but instead got over 1000 people.  It was packed, the food line was huge.  But the kids had a great time, Beth was dressed up as a Unicorn and Theo was Quasi from the Octonauts.  Sarah also put on some beautiful makeup to become the Milky Way.  I just went as balding Dad, which some would argue is pretty scary by itself.

Anyway we all had a good time, Beth, Joseph and I all jogged home at the end while Sarah, Theo and Isla drive home in the car.  Holly and Age were helping with the setup/teardown, so they came over afterwards, but in the end it was decided that Joseph and Isla would stay the night.

Sunday morning everyone was up and I fed them breakfast, and they all decided the didn't like that breakfast etc and wanted something else.  Ahhhh children they're all so lovely.  Grandad came and took Beth and JoJo to see if they liked Golf, I'm not sure that Beth did.  She certainly didn't seem that enthusiastic on her return.  While they were playing Golf Theo and I went for a long walk, I put him in the pram which he thought was great fun.  I tried to make it interesting for him, pretending we were going to crash into things and he thought that was the best game ever.

Once back we all went out to a school in Hasting's Gala.  Had a good time there, went on a Merry-Go-Round, played on a bouncy castle, noticed that Theo had nits.  WAIT WHAT?  Yes, I mentioned to Sarah that Theo was still quite often scratching his head and she had a look and went NITS NITS NITS.  So on the way home from the Gala we stopped at Gee's Pharmacy and got a de-nitting kit.  Sarah gave Theo's hair a big wash and then with the nit comb combed out heaps of the little tackers.  Errrrk.

Later that night I gave it another wash and combed some more out.  Probably dead ones, wasn't sure, but there was definetly more of them to be combed out.  Erkies.

During the week we went to the see Freddy Mercury movie, Bohemian Rhapsody.  It was OK, but I don't think it knew what it wanted to be.  It tried to squeeze in all the hits, tried to also be a bit funny, a bit sad.  It was entertaining, there's no doubt about that, but it wasn't a classic.

Now it's Saturday morning and Beth's just woken up, so I'd better hit the publish button.
