Marathon Update

Submitted by TiM on

This'll be a big update because it's been quite a few days since I last updated, sorry diary, things get busy.

So LAST last weekend, on the Saturday afternoon I went to the first HopCon at Westshore.  I met up with a few workmates and we enjoyed an afternoon not quite in the sun because it was actually freezing cold, but we still had a good time trying the various beers on offer, most of which had been especially made for the festival. Sunday we went to the market in the morning.

The week just gone was the last week of school for Beth for this term, she started late in the term and it's gone quickly.

Granny arrived on Wednesday evening, the kids were very excited that she was coming and made little banners for her.

Thursday night Beth did her homework for the week and wrote a story saying "My blosims are byootafool" which we were all very impressed with.

Friday granny went to Kindy with Theo just to say Hi and to read some stories etc to the children.

Saturday was swimming for Theo again, Granny and Beth came along too.  Sarah went to Taradale to get her hair done.

Once we got back from swimming we went to the new playground for a big play there, it was packed full of people as it always is on a nice day.  After that we went via Taradale ourselves to get a bit of lunch to eat, then headed back home.  While everyone tried to have a rest I went up and collected Sarah and her lovely new hair.

Saturday afternoon everyone crashed out for a sleep, though not before Beth and I went to feed Fluffy (Rachael's cat).  Everyone had a big snooze, only awoken when Peter and Mary arrived to say hello.  We hadn't seen them since their trip to Bali.  However the fact that both Beth and Theo had been awoken from their sleep early meant they were both mega tired and thus mega grumpy.  There was a lot of grizzling, crying and just general sadness.  No wonder that Peter and Mary (and Holly too) didn't stay very long.

Saturday night Sarah and I went out to the Japanese, Piku at Red Barrel.  It was just as super tasty as the night we went for my birthday, such nice food.  Bit of a long wait for our main course though, I think we waited about an hour in between the two?  But the food was just amazing, the only reason bad part of the evening was the taxi ride home, we got a Taxi driver who just let the most mega disgusting farts go in the cab.

Sarah had to wind the window down a couple of times, still this didn't deter him.  Ugh it was bad.  Granny had babysat the children's and they were all tucked up fast asleep when we got home.

Sunday morning we went to the farmers market and had a great time, Theo took his trolley and dragged it around.  Had a fun time, lots of tasty food.  Only blip was the loss of a cheese that must have fallen out of Theo's trolley.  We left there and went to Brave to fill up my beer bottles with some Sparkle Juice, once of the tasty beers that Brave made for the HopCon festival.

We headed home and spent the afternoon pottering around, Beth and I went to feed Fluffy again.  Granny and I took the kids to the playground for a play, and also to go on the trains, but sadly there was some sort of staff shortage at the train and there were lots of kids waiting for a ride and no trains coming to collect them.  They were a bit sad when we left with no train ride, but there's always this weekend.

So overall a great weekend really.  The week has been good too, it's the first week of school holidays and Granny has been having a great time with the kids.

Monday they went for a picnic at Anderson park with Joseph, Isla and Holly.  Yesterday was action packed excitement with a Bus Ride into town, followed by a Movie (Smallfoot).  Sarah prepared them well for the movie by showing them the trailer first, so that it wouldn't be too much of an unknown thing for her.  I met them for lunch at Adoro after the movie and by all accounts they had a great time, Theo had Big Bae with him so that had kept him comforted during the movie.  And only 1 toilet stop for Granny to handle too, amazing!

In other exciting news, I have signed up for a Marathon! Yes, 42kms of Marathon.  Damn.  And in other also very exciting news, yesterday a package arrived for me at work and it's a new Garmin Vivoactive 3 Music!  Which is an AMAZING smart watch compared to my old Fitbit.  It can answer/reject phone calls, I have loaded my Visa card onto it so I can pay for things with it if they support paywave.  It's really amazing, it's got a GPS built in, no longer do I need to lug a phone around.  And even if you did want to lug a phone around for music support WELL IT DOES THAT TOO.  There's pretty much not many things it can't do, I'm so stoked with it!  And I had no idea it was arriving either, Sarah told me something was coming to my office but I didn't know what.  I figured it was bedsheets or something.

Oh yes, speaking of bedsheets our new mattress arrived last Thursday.  It's a bit more firm that our old one, but that's not a bad thing.  I'm still getting a great night's sleep every night, so happy there.  Sarah spent Sunday afternoon cutting up the old one and I took it to the tip to dispose of it ($12)

I think that's everything caught up in a fairly rushed manner! Sarah's in Auckland today, I took her our to the airport this morning.  I'll be biking home again tonight as I have been most nights now, stopping off tonight to feed fluffy the cat.

And that'll do for writing!
