Ticking Along
Hello Diary! Another week has ticked by exciting exciting. Beth's school seems to be going really well, there's been a few "Don't leave me here's" but overall she seems to be doing just fine. Friday the School had a PÅwhiri for all the new students, parents invited, so we went along with Theo and it was really nice. We were all welcomed to the school, the students performed a Haka, the headmaster said some nice words. There was cake and biscuits (Theo's favourite part by far).
Thursday night Sarah baked cookies for the school's bake sale and took them on Friday. I didn't see, but Sarah said there was a huge pile of cakes and biscuits. And Friday when she went to pick up Beth and buy some she said it was carnage in there, people had bought everything. So that's good I suppose, the school will keep running and educating our children.
Beth seems to be doing fine at school from a learning point of view, she's reading the books she's bringing home, Sarah spent some time with her last night doing homework. Around the dinner table last night we played the MyFoodBag game where you roll the dice and have to do something depending on what number you roll, that was good fun but of course being 3 and 5 they got much more interested in the game than they did eating their dinner. Why is it so damn hard to get kids to eat? That's Beth's biggest challenge at school at the moment, eating her lunch. Sarah asked Mrs Sindon last week to try to ensure she eats her lunch and on that day, she did a great job. I think it's the excitement of school and playing at lunch that means she doesn't eat most of it. Then when Sarah picks her up she's starving and crabby almost crying for something else to eat. So that's fun, hopefully we can get that sorted out. Sarah's going to ask Mrs Sindon to try and keep another eye on her to make sure she eats a bit more food.
Theo's decided he likes to hit people, which isn't great. Sarah asked him on Monday if he had a nice day at Kindy and he said "Yes I played with X and Y and did this and I hit X and Y" errrr what? Sarah wrote to kindy to ask about it, but they wrote back and said it's quite normal for his age and he's usually a lovely little child. Hope so. He certainly is starting to to get all testosterone and stomping around, fighting with Beth etc etc.
Installed a Ring Floodlight on Saturday out the back. We now have a lovely view of the backyard with alerts if any motion is detected. It works really well and I'm glad this is wired in so you don't have to charge it on a regular basis. That's the only problem with the front doorbell, you have to unscrew it every month or so to charge up the battery. That said, it's better than the "It's Mumy!" we had before.
Swimming on Saturday went much better than last week, Theo was still quite unsure about the new teacher but after 10 minutes he really warmed up and started to enjoy it. I know he enjoyed it because he gets crabby when it's time to hop out, he really wanted to stay in longer.
Saturday afternoon we went up to Taradale to get an icecream from the new Icecream and waffles shop. It used to be in Greenmeadows but has moved into Taradale, much better location, bigger and more things. They also had hotdogs and I had to really restrain myself to not buy one because it was close to dinner time. After an icecream we went to the park for a play for 15 minutes, then back home.
That night Auntie Holly came to look after the children and Sarah and I went out to Monica Love's for some drinks and nibbles then went to see the movie A Small Favour. It wasn't a bad movie, quite interesting, though towards the end I thought it got really stupid. If they'd decided what sort of movie it was (comedy? mystery?) and stuck to it, and ditched the insane ending, it would have been perfect. As it was it was good Saturday night fodder, but it's not going to go down in history as a classic.
On the way back home we heard that the All Blacks had lost! It was super foggy too.
Sunday we didn't do too much, in the afternoon I took the kids for a walk up Dobel Reserve which they enjoyed, both were really good and didn't grizzle or whinge or anything! It was amazing.
And that's pretty much our week, it's now Wednesday morning, a full 24 hours after I started typing this and Beth's sitting next me wanting breakfast.
