Beth's 5th Birthday Party

Submitted by TiM on

It was action-a-plenty at the Harman household yesterday.  Everyone woke up nice and early, Beth and Theo were excited to balloons already blown up in the living room.  We had our breakfast and I took Theo to swimming.  As previously mentioned, Jill is out for a while getting well, so we had a replacement teacher Denise take us.  I'm not sure if it was because Theo had wet himself during the night and was tired, he didn't like Denise, or what was going on, but he was a nightmare.  He usually loves swimming but this time all he did was grizzle, moan, complain and in the end when I took him out 10 minutes early, SCREAM.  No one was surprise when I took him out of the lesson, he was just being a right little poo head.  Denise had a very different lesson structure to Jill though, I think that might have been a big part of the problem.  Anyway we came home and got the house ready for the party.

The night before Sarah had made the cake, it looked amazing!  Sarah got all the other party food ready, Beth and I went up to Taradale to get some money out for the Fairy and to buy some party plates, Sarah got everything ready, Theo tried to have a sleep and failed.  At 1pm all Beth's friends started arriving and the party started.  Parents had been told a fairy was coming and they were welcome to just drop their kids off and run and boy, did they take advantage of that.  Everyone was "Here's little Jenny" while waving and reversing quickly back up the driveway.

Inside Juice, lollies, chippies, popcorn were being consumed at an alarming rate.  At 1:30 the Fairy arrived, causing everyone to be very excited and to jump on the couch to watch her arrive.

Fairy Rosebud setup a bubble machine outside on the deck, then came inside and made herself a little camp.  She told the children lots of stories, started doing facepainting with Abba music on in the background, the kids who were waiting went outside to place in the bubble machine.  Us adults basically stood back and watched as the Fairy took over, it was great.  Once everyone had their face painted she told more stories, got them all dancing around, did some magic tricks and made a balloon animal for Beth.  She basically entertained ~13 children for an hour and a half, then said her final goodbyes to everyone and "flew away" in the fairy car.

We had the cake and then all the parents arrives to collect their little darlings and before we knew it we had an empty house again and about 500 metric tonnes of glitter to vacuum up!  Overall it was a great success, Theo spent the entire time shoving food in his face yet still claimed to be hungry.  Beth had a great time and I think all her friends came did too.

Age, Holly, Joseph and Isla came over to hang out for the afternoon, Age and I went out to Brave to get some beer and some dinner.  Came back and put everyone to bed, Beth enjoyed her huge pile of gifts and things, carting them off to bed in about 4 bags, huge grin on her face.

Overall a very successful happy day!  Here's a select few photos/videos.
