Beth's First Joke
Beth told us a joke tonight. Or a trick, as she called it. She was very interested in the knock knock and other jokes that were being told before the Bedtime Stories last Thursday night. She laughed along at them all, even though she didn't get them.
Her joke tonight was "What does a cockroach do when it gets up to the top of your head" "It does some poos and runs back down again!"
Turns out that Elizabeth at Kindergarten told them that Cockroaches leave poos on the floor as they crawl across, so that was Beth adaptation of the joke.
Then she wasn't tired tonight when we put her to bed at 7pm (Theo was knackered, off to sleep in about 90 seconds I reckon) so instead I took her with me to the Supermarket all rugged up in her jammies, dressing gown and boots. Before we'd even left the house she was saying "Haha won't it be funny if I fall asleep in the Trolley" and things like that. Once we'd gone around the supermarket (I didn't put her in the trolley) and we got into the car, as we drove off I started talking to her and told her when we got home she'd have to hop into bed. And then I looked in the rear view mirror and I couldn't believe it, she was pretending to be asleep! I mean it was obvious she wasn't, the huge grin and the stifled giggles as I said things like "Oh no Bethy is asleep, I better be quiet so I don't wake her" and then making the car shake as we went around corners etc. But bless her, she was dedicated to her joke and so made me carry her to bed, I even bought her into the lounge so Sarah could be mock surprised at how she was alseep. All the time Beth was struggling not to grin. So we put her to bed and, bless her again, she's actually gone off to sleep really properly!
She's really growing up.
