Easter

Submitted by TiM on

What a busy 4 days of Easter it was!  Mostly it seemed like I was just collecting Feijoa's off the ground and putting them in bags.  It was impossible to keep up with demand, I'd put out bags and bags and they'd keep going and going.  I even put out a few pumpkins and sold most of those too, I guess when you're selling 10kg of pumpkin for $2 it's a bargain that's hard for people to walk past.

Friday Rusty came to visit for the weekend, everyone was very excited to have him here for a while.  Theo and Beth helped me collect up Feijoa's and had fun helping me weigh and bag them, then carrying out the big sign to the front of the house.  Friday night we took Rusty for a walk around the block, stopping to look at lots of things and generally having a nice walk.

Saturday we went out to See The Trains out at Pufflet Road, the big train track in Havelock North.  It had been really heavily advertised though and it was mental with people everywhere, lots of kids and heaps of trains.  Because it was so popular there were heaps of training running, so we didn't have to queue up for too long before we got a ride.  After a couple of train rides we called it quits and went to Brave Brewing, while I filled up my flagons Sarah went to Freedom furniture.  It was a genius move Brave putting the brewery next to a furniture shop.  We headed home to find the 30 odd bags of Feijoa's had sold out!  At least everyone was honest and we had the right amount of money in there,  it's always a bit of a "I hope no one nicks it" when there's $60 in the tin just in plain site!

Did a bit of weed spraying and some other small bits and pieces of work around the house on Saturday afternoon while the kids didn't sleep and watched TV or played with Rusty (or "Rust" as Theo likes to call him).

Sunday was Easter Sunday, yah!  I'd made Pancakes the night before which went down a treat, then Mary took Beth to Church while Theo had a bit of a play around outside.  I took a break from selling Feijoa's on Sunday, I thought The Lord might smite me or something and frankly I was sick of looking at them.   Once Mary and Beth were back from Church we had a lovely brunch of Bacon, Eggs, Beans, Hash Browns and Bread, very tasty, then the kids ran around out the back searching for Easter Eggs.

Once the fun was over I tried to get them to have a sleep for a couple of hours but it wasn't to be, eventually I just make them a simple dinner and got them off to bed.

Monday was a tidy up the house day, throw out the rubbish and put stuff on Trademe day.  Oh and also sell lots more Feijoa's again day.  Every time I bagged up another 10 bags I'd go outside and all my existing bags would be sold.  It was a never ending battle, eventually after having shifted about 35 bags of Feijoas I gave up and pulled the signs in, Beth helping me while Theo slept his little face off for his big afternoon snooze.

While Sarah had been out, she bought Beth a new book called "My First Question and Answer Book" which she really loves talking about and reading all the various things within it.

This morning the new Bo who's taken over from Bo from Bo's Mows came to do the lawns.  Theo kept saying "I want to see The Bo" which I thought was pretty funny.  New Bo also has a car that's fully covered in Astroturf which is of course as amazing as it sounds.  I was probably more impressed/in love with it than the kids were though.

Tonight when I got home I took the kids for a walk down the street to see one of the house down there, it's been lifted up off its foundations and is about to be moved ~30m to the left, so that the section it's on can be split in half.  I thought the kids might be pretty impressed with a house floating in the air but it wasn't really that exciting for them.  They mostly wanted to play in the dirt around it, which Matt from over the road told them was a bad idea because there's probably old broken glass etc in there.  Still, was an interesting post-dinner walk for them.

And that was our weekend really!  Mostly selling Feijoa's, having Easter with Peter and Mary and looking after Rust, who went home yesterday tired and happy.

PS: Oh yea I totally forgot, a couple of weeks ago I went and cut open one of the ~4 Watermelons we grew out the back. But it was all white flesh and not really very ready to eat.  Even though the leaves have all withered off the Watermelon vine, I thought I'd cut another one open on Monday and wowsers, it was pretty much perfect (prehaps still a little too unripe on one side).  It was so tasty! I can't believe we managed to grow a Watermelon from a New World Little Garden.  Neither can Beth, though I don't think she really understands that it grew from a tiny little seed.  Will definitely have to give it a go again later this year.
