Putting Away The Wood

Submitted by TiM on

Long week last week, with Sarah on Jury duty I was on kiddy duty, dropping them off and picking them up and also cooking dinner.  Thankfully dinner is the Foodbag thing so it's a little bit harder for me than usual to cock up.  I worked from home for the week too so I could get some stuff done without too many other interruptions from work, that pretty much worked too I got a fair amount of stuff done.

Saturday morning first thing while the kids "ate" their breakfast I went out and piled up the first bunch of Feijoas for the season.  Once all collected up the kids helped me bag them and carry out the Pink Umbrella and other bits so that we could sell them.,

Then I took Theo to swimming and he was really good, he's finally starting to enjoy putting his head under the water and playing around like that.  He used to hate it, finally he's on board with it. So we had a really good swimming lesson, he did a great job.  After swimming we drove out to Hastings to the Pool Shop, because annoying the pool shop that was just down the road here has closed up.  The new pool shop was really nice though, the staff seemed much friendly than at the old place (I always felt I was being judged there, like I wasn't treating my pool with the respect it deserved or something) and the lady had a little dog the kids got to pat and push around in a trolley.  Then we went to Brave Brewing for a meal and a pint, it was St Paddy's day so they had some green balloons up.  Kids seemed to enjoy it, got a couple of fillups while there too.

Headed home, our 5 bags of Feijoas were sold and then the Firewood people rang, came and dumped my 4 bins of wood out the back.  While Theo slept I started to stack it, then Beth came out too and wanted to help. I thought she'd only help for a few bits before getting bored but she really got stuck in!  She put her gloves on and she carried piece of wood after piece of wood, happily hiffing it up onto the wood stacks.  I had to help straighten it up a few times and saved her from nearly dropping it on herself, but she really stuck at it until we'd put it all away!   Just in time for Theo to wake up, but it was good timing because over the road was a huge green double decker bus.  It was there because it'd dropped people off for a wedding, so we went to look at it.  And then the bus driver said we could get on!  So I took Beth and Theo on and upstairs and they both thought that was pretty magical, Theo wasn't 100% sure because he'd just woken up and I think he was a bit dazed still and wasn't sure if it was a dream or not.

Then Holly, Age and the kids came over, we had a couple of Guinness to celebrate St Paddies day then headed up to buy some fish and chips for dinner, which everyone enjoyed.

Sunday Beth, Theo and I all got out there and collected up more feijoas.  This time we got 11 bags worth while is pretty good so the same thing, we carried out the sign and the money tin and put the bags up together, all of which is very exciting especially for Beth.  And after a couple of hours we'd sold all those too, without even putting the sign up at the end of the street!  Next weekend we will hopefully have a whole bunch to sell, bags and bags!

Once we'd put them out for sale we went into Ahuriri for some lunch, we tried to get into the Boardwalk but as usual there was a 45+ minute wait on food, stuff that.  So we went over the road and had pizza and port buns instead, very nice and probably cheaper than Boardwalk anyway.  Then we went to the playground, got and icecream and had a bit of a splash down by the water.  We left after that though because the Sun had suddenly come out in force and we were worried the kids would get burnt.

Came home and I did a bit of gardening etc, got the pool all lovely and clean.  Peter came over and said hi, told us their party for Michael Koch? had gone well and the Neil Diamond videos played OK.

And then it was bed time pretty much!  Time to face another busy week.

Oh yea during the week I took the car up to get its battery replaced, now it starts properly again with sounding like it's going to cark it.
