Barking Mad

Submitted by TiM on

Spent most of Sunday putting down a heap of bark out the back garden.  It looks much better now, instead of a weedy horrid thing it's a nice layer of clean bark.  Blair from next door very kindly lent me his trailer.  Theo was such a champion helping, I got the trailer into the back yard and for a good 30 minutes he helped me with his tiny little scoop take bark from the trailer to the garden.  Over and over he went, copying what I was doing.  Beth had done the same but gave up bored with the whole thing after about 2 minutes.  Theo didn't give up though!

Once the first load of bark was done, Sarah, Theo and I went down to the landscaping place to look at stones for around the pool and to get another load of bark.  Plus we went to the cafe to get a bite to eat.

We'd left Beth next door, one of the neighbours has a little girl a year older than Beth and they know each other from kindy, so they played together for an hour or so which was nice.

Once another load of bark was applied to the garden, Beth returned from next door.  I put Theo to bed because he was tired and then went down to buy the stones for around the pool area.  I only got a half scoop because I thought that would do me, but it wasn't enough so I had to go and get another quarter scoop.  Even in the end that probably wasn't quite enough for perfect coverage but it looks OK and damn the fancy pants stones are expensive.

I was pretty knackered by the end of that, and a bit burnt because it was an overcast day so I'd forgotten to put a hat on until starting on the stones.

What else?  Friday night after work I scootered down to met everyone at the Hot Chick for Fish and Chips.  Beth and Theo had a great time playing and running around the place, watching a huge ocean liner leave the port.  Theo loved watching the cruise ship because it had tug boats helping it and he knew tug boats from one of his books.

Wednesday night last week I had to go to New Plymouth.  Headed up that night to be ready for a 10am meeting the next day.  Thankfully the flights all connected OK.  Meeting went well.  Flights back even connected pretty much OK apart from a bit delayed coming back in Napier.

Oh yes, Saturday.  What'd we do on Saturday?  Oh yes we went over to Peter and Mary's to water their garden and plants.  Then Sarah took Beth to her playdate with Liam, and Theo and I did... err... something.  Oh yes, swimming, Theo and I went to swimming.  He did a pretty good job again.

This week has been mental.  Monday was just the day from hell.  I was tasked with upgrading the version of Junos on 3 routers.  The first one I did had some sort of odd error and was in a odd state.  No worries, log a case with tech support.  The next router I do everything is working fine until it's time to swap routing engines, at which point errors FLY up the screen and the box stops working in any useful manner.  Oh shit.  Tried everything to revive it, but nothing.  Log another task with tech support.  Tech support come back an hour later and tell me they can't help because neither router is covered by support.  Then the lights in the office dip for 2 seconds and we lose lots of connectivity and I can't do anything in my development environment anymore to help troubleshoot my problem.  I log back onto the live, broken router and then the remote access solution we use breaks for 30 minute ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME.  It was a terrible, terrible day.  Anything that could go wrong did go wrong.  Ugh.

Anyway today I finally managed to get both devices up and working again.  The first wasn't a major problem and the second big problem turns out to be a hardware fault, just me doing the upgrade seems to have triggered it.  We replaced the hardware and all worked again, thank feck.  2 routers upgraded, only 18 more to go.  To be done by Friday, I hope. Argh!
