I want to be a Moth / ARRRGH A MOTH!
Saturday morning I took Beth and Theo for a walk up to the playground - had a nice walk in the hot sun. We had a slide, had a walk pass the people playing cricket and went over to fed the ducks. Theo still loves the ducks, I really really loves them. Beth enjoys them too, but Theo gets a real kick out of visiting them. Though he was a little bit crabby by the time we'd walked from the playground to the ducks, it's a long walk for a ~2 y/o. He's doing great with his walking though, he hardly ever crawls now, only if he's really really tired and can't cope. We sat down to fed the ducks and man those things have got aggressive. I had to swat them away with the bread bag, they're basically trying to eat off Theo/Beth's head for bread. Viciously little machines they are. Anyway after feeding the ducks we went over to the cafe to get a fluffy and a coffee for Daddy. Theo ate his biscuit by half eating it and half throwing it everywhere. I was so embarrassed I had to ask for the dustpan and broom to sweep up the mess in the cafe. And the staff were visibly relieved they weren't going to have to attempt to clean up half eaten, half licked melty crumby chocolate biscuit.
Once we made it back home we put Theo to bed and Beth and I went into town to the bike park, though she didn't really want to ride around for too long, she knows that the icecream places are close and was very excited about visiting one of them. So after a couple of half-hearted laps around the bike park we went up to Lick This to get an icecream.
After Theo had woken up we went over to Peter and Mary's for the afternoon, having a swim and then eating home for dinner and bed!
Today we went to the Farmer's Market, they had a "Bug Lab" there which was mostly a promotion for the Te Papa Bug Lab exhibition they've got on. But it included face painting so Beth got her face painted. They asked her what she wanted to be and she'd planned it already, she wanted to be a Moth. But they didn't have Moth (or probably what Sarah and I suspect is that they didn't do anything too elaborate for the small kids, the older kids had some pretty amazing face paint) but they did have Dragonfly so she went for that instead. And very pleased she was with it too. We walked around the market for a bit longer before we headed home. Theo went to bed and Beth and I went up to the local river for a paddle. I wasn't sure that Beth would like the river but she thought it was fantastic, really loved it. The only thing she didn't like was went the motorbikes came riding over the river, out of the entry we were playing in. That gave her quite a fright, but otherwise she thought it was great. Loved catching the leaves as they floated downstream, didn't mind getting her bum a bit wet from the splashing etc. Then this afternoon we went to Pandora Pond for a walk, Beth nearly had a breakdown when a moth tried to land her on. It's a real love/hate relationship with moths I tell you. We did find a bunch of cool painted rocks as we were walking, turns out there's a group of people who paint rocks and leave them in public locations, a bit like an Easter Egg hunt. We found about 10 of them, but we made Beth only take one and let Theo have one too. Then we went back to the playground and had a play on the swings while Sarah went to get some dinner, then we all had a bit to eat. Then a very kind man said to me would I like to take Beth out on a kayak of his, which was really kind! So we went for a quick paddle which Beth thought was the most amazing thing ever, padding around Pandora Pond on a kayak. So a big thanks to the random stranger who let us his kayak for 10 minutes, a very kind gesture.
I cut back the wistera today, it was so big it was growing up onto the antenna. I just managed to pull it down without damaging anything, another week or two and it would have needed to be carefully cut down because it would have been too stuck on/into things.
