That Cricket Match!

Submitted by TiM on

Wow, the cricket last night. We went from having no chance at all to being 6 runs away. So gutted that we lost, but we deserved to lose. I mean we played terrible apart from the magic man who I'd never heard of, but is now of course classified as an A1 deadset Australian legend. Marcus Stoinis take a bow. It's been a long time since I've been that nervous watching a cricket match.
So, this Thursday we're off to see Aus v NZ at the Napier Cricket Ground. What's the one day, out of the last 6 weeks, that it's due to rain? Of fucking course it's Thursday. I can't believe it. It's still supposed to be 29c though, so there's a good chance it'll just bit a spit here and there. I'm going to be pissed off if I have to sit there in the pouring rain though, we've had almost none in 2 months and the grass is all dying. I mean I could water it of course but I'm too lazy to do that. Or I don't have time. Or both.

Last week I got an email saying that The Mermaid was coming to the Napier Aquarium. So I thought I should take Beth and Theo along on Saturday morning. We got there quite early due to me misreading the times the Mermaid was going to be available for meeting, but it worked out fine anyway. We first of all got to see the Mermaid in the penguin enclosure, where they tried to talk to us about penguins while all the little children just asked their parents heaps of questions about the Mermaid. She sat there talking about penguins but really it was all about her. Then we were allowed to line up to MEET the Mermaid. Beth was very exciting. Is it my turn yet? Now? Now? Eventually we got to meet the Mermaid and she asked Beth some questions and gave her a big hug. Beth loved it, totally loved it. All the way home we talked about the Mermaid, what was she doing now, could we see her again, when could we see her again etc? Though that being said the lusture has worn off the last few days. No mention of her since.
Which is a bit like when we video called Mum on Saturday afternoon. Auntie Leanne was there and she said hello to Beth and it didn't register with Beth at all! I couldn't believe it. Auntie Leanne was her whole world ~6 months ago, I guess when you're a toddler those things slip out of your mind. That was a bit sad.

Theo's walking hasn't really progressed. He'll get up, take a few tentative steps then sit down again. He's just super happy to be standing up as long as he's got something to hold onto. On Saturday morning I saw him nearly running across the back yard holding onto his wooden trolley. Hopefully he comes good soon.
Both kiddies have got colds at the moment. Theo's just upset and sneezing giant boogers. Beth is trying to win an academy award with her "Oh noooo Daddy I've gotttt aaa cooolllddddddd" and making out like it's the end of the world. Hopefully they'll be better tomorrow.
It's been so hot here of late. We got the airconditioning serviced today, the one in the kitchen had started to develop a fishy smell even though I'd cleaned the filter. Turns out it's just cooking oils getting onto the metal fins, bits that I can't (at least easily) clean. It's all good now though, nice and clean.
Went to Brave Brewing brewery on Sunday, it's just opened. Really nice, tasty food that was served up really quickly. The menu is ~4 items, but I think that works well for a place that's really focused on the beer more than the food. The food was good beer drinking food. We had a couple of drinks then Sarah did a bit of shopping at K Mart while the kids and I took back our faulty Shoo Fly for a non-faulty one. You put the Shoo Fly on the table and it waves its wands around and keeps the flies away. Technology ey?
Speaking of, my phone's been giving me grief. 7.1.1 is great, but the damn speakerphone doesn't work. Which I use on a regular basis when I video call Mum or Dad. So I did some custom firmware stuff, but then it's a bit insecure and the Bank's paywave app doesn't work. Eventually after fucking aorund for a few days I went back to 6.0.1. That's stock, locked and everything works. They really haven't released a phone better than my current one I don't think. There was one I was this close to buying, the OnePlus 3T, but it doesn't support 700Mhz LTE which even my N6 supports, so buying it would be a step backwards. I really don't even need 4G everywhere, but I don't like buying something that'll be my phone for the next 2 years+ that's a step down from my current one. So I flagged that.
I took Beth and Theo for a swim in the pool (just in the backyard) on Sunday. Beth was on the lobster and I could see that eventually she was going to fall off and into the pool. So I kept really close eye on here and when she did eventually fall in I watched her flip herself around and at least get her head up above the water. I went and grabbed her and helped her. She was all paniced and worried, as expected, but I explained to her how proud I was that she'd turned around in the water etc etc. By the time she came inside she was proudly telling anyone who'd listen how amazingly she's handled herself and how she was proud of herself etc. Pretty funny. We need to get them back to lessons again soon so they can progress a bit more, Beth was pretty freaked out when she fell off. Poor little chicken.
That's probably enough - as usual I'm sure I'm missing stuff (what'd we do last weekend Tim? I can't recall) but alas. I'm tired and it's time for bed. It's stinking hot here, thank fek for working Aircon.
Oh yes, Donald Trump is a wanker.
