Concert Time - Nearly Christmas
We saw Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals on Saturday night. Holly very kindly babysat for us, friends of Peter and Mary's had a free ticket they couldn't use so they offered it to us. It was a pretty good night really, I used to really like Ben Harper ~15 years ago, can't say I'm his biggest fan anymore though. That didn't really matter though, he played lots of songs that everyone knew, or at least people who had a knowledge of him would know. We bumped into a few people we knew there too, being the biggest event in Napier that night it's not really a surprise.
Saturday we took the kids for a walk down to Ahuriri. We went to Smiths for a late breakfast then walked down to the Cool Cat and got an Icecream. Theo, once unsure of Icecream, has realied what an amazing treat it is. He loved it. We all played in the sand for a bit then wandered over to the playground to play on the swings and the slide for a while.
Saturday night was a rough night with the kiddies though, for some reason they both woke up a lot during the night. I was pretty tired for most of the day, we didn't really do that much, just filled up the big plastic clamshell Sarah bought (named the "Splashpad") up with water and let the two of them crawl, fall, ride the rollercoaster into it. That proved a lot of fun, Theo loved it. Beth didn't enjoy riding the rollercoaster into it though, she bashed her tummy. Kinda serves her right though for having clocked her cousin in the face with a plastic dart a bit earlier in the day when Joseph and Isla were visiting. Poor Isla.
Garden is going well this year. The corns are looking big and strong, we're getting lots of lovely Strawberries now that there's a couple of nets covering them. Theo has realised too that he likes Strawberries, took him ages to enjoy them. But having watched Beth and me eating them in the garden the other night he gave one another go and realised it wasn't trying to poison him. He really got into it after a while, getting quite crabby when there weren't anymore.
Speaking of Theo, he's doing great the little guy. Sarah and I were asking him questions last night at dinner time, he's figured out the upwards inflection at the end of a sentence indicates a question and he tends to answer every question with a little "uh!" which I think is Theo speak for Yes! It's pretty cute. He can also seem to string a couple of words together now, like Hello Daddy and things like that. Still no walking though. He loves to push his block trolley around and is fantastic with it turning corners and avoiding obstacles, but he always walks with his legs splayed outwards. Hopefully soon he'll start walking around, though it's going to be very strange when he does. He doesn't seem to be in any rush though because he's always got his block trolley or a baby bus/red truck to help him get about rapidly.
Not the Sunday just gone but the Sunday before Sarah and I went out for dinner, Mary said she'd come over and baby sit which was nice. We though we'd zip down to Mexi Mama for a quick Mexican bite. Closed. No worries we'll go to Mr D's in town. Closed. We'll go Bistronomy then. Fully booked out and busy. Probably because it seems like it was the ONLY DAMN RESTAURANT open on Sunday night in central Napier. In the end we ended up at Emporium. The food was actually pretty good and the service, for once, wasn't utterly shit. Still we could have had a much nicer night, but nothing was freakin' open. Crazy ol' Napier. Tourists must be very confused when they go looking for a bite on a Sunday night and realise the town has pretty much shut down.
It's 6:30 now, I started this at 5:30 so I should probably go and get ready for the day. Damn hayfever woke me up very early this morning, it's quite bad at the moment. Though it was mental on Sunday night when I cleaned out the carport with my blower vac. All the dust and pollen it kicked up blew me up like a balloon with the sneezing and coughing and hacking. Ugh. Anyway I have decent pills now which seem to help.
