Holiday in Taupo
Friday was a public holiday in Hawke's Bay, so I took Thursday off as well to make the most of the long weekend. We drove up to Taupo on the Thursday morning, stopping on the way to look at a waterfall. We didn't even know it WAS a waterfall, we just stopped because Beth's tummy was feeling funny and she needed a wee wee too. The waterfall was "quite awesome" and "very cool" according to Beth, though she was just repeating what we'd said to her about it.
We got to Taupo (after a few more stops) and checked into the Anchoridge Resort. Which as nice as it was, isn't really a restort. Motel would be a much better word, though it does have 3 nice pools, a little hot tub, a large "daddy sized pool" and a small kiddy pool that Beth could stand up in. Beth did some great swimming in the pool, diving in from the side and swimming to me in the middle of the pool. Theo did some great blubbing around, sometimes when I wasn't paying attention to how I was holding him he'd get a mouthful of water and be most crabbed off for a few seconds, spitting out water etc.
We also tried to go to the glass blowing place, the lady who was on the counter nearly had a mental breakdown when she saw an unrestrained 3 year old walking into the show with all the delicate glass on display. We made it out to the cafe before Beth wet herself and we had to leave. She seems to be being really stubborn at the moment, saying she doesn't want to go to the toilet when she obviously does, or only half emptying her bladder meaning she had to go again in another 20 minutes. Anyway we left there and went into town instead to do a bit of shopping, a big play at the playground, then we got an icecream and walked along the lakefront. Oh the drive to the glass blowing was pretty funny too. A moth was on Beth's window and for half the car ride we got questions like:
"This that a Moth?"
"The Moth is looking at me!"
"Is that a piece of it's wing?"
"The Moth won't get me?"
"Where is the Moth?"
etc etc
Oh the day before we'd gone into town to get some toys, we realised we hadn't really packed any for them to play with. Theo got a little car ramp thing that the cars shoot down, and Beth got a hamster that buzzes and runs around a little plastic track. She loves it so much. So does Sarah too, she's already looking at all the different accessories etc that you can get for it.
Saturday morning we packed up and left Taupo, after another little look around town and a bit of shopping. Theo slept pretty much all the way home this time, something he hadn't done on the way there. So that worked out quite well. Saturday night Beth and I went up to the playground for 30 minutes before getting dinner. She's getting so big now, she can even go down the fireman's pole by herself. After she did it I told her how exicted I was, well done and I'm so proud of you etc! Then she helped me get dinner and we went home, had a quick chat to Granny and Bilby before bedtime.
Sunday morning I heard Beth, very seriously, telling her hamster "Oh Sprinkles I'm so happy, you're such a good girl! I'm so PROUD of you sprinkles!". No idea what Sprinkles had actually done, but it was pretty cute to hear her congratulating Sprinkles. Sunday I mostly spent in the garden, clearing out the Asparagus patch because it's full of weeds. Hopefully we might get some Asparagus this year, though I'm not holding out a lot of hope given how many weeds were in there. Still a few little shoots of Asparagus were poking through, so it's not quite game over yet. Oh yes on Saturday afternoon while Beth was asleep Theo and I also waterblasted the Greeenhouse to get all the lichens and moss off it. Now it's actually a clear structure you can see in again, instead of this hazy, misty thing that the sun only just pokes into.
It's Monday now, the last day off. Not too sure what we'll do today, probably just some more cleaning up around the house, pull out some more weeds etc. There's always lots to do!
