It's been so hot the last few days! We've had some fun though, we took the kids for a walk through the Redwood Pines forest on Saturday afternoon, it was ~3km round trip and they held up pretty well. Well Theo broke down about half way into it and had to be carried out, but Beth, Isla and Joseph all handed it really well. It was a nice walk too, it was stonking hot outside but under the canopy shade it wasn't too bad at all. Once we'd finished up there we went into Havelock North for some food and a drink. Both Beth and Theo broke down at this point and the meal was a bit painful. They both crashed out asleep on the way home, something that usually takes Beth an hour to do in the car but she was asleep within 10 minutes, so the walk obviously took it out of her too!
Friday night David and his wife Sarah plus their kids came over for a BBQ. Had a nice night out watching the sun go down, it was so hot again that day! Sweltering. I don't think we did too much else that day, I can't remember. Oh yes Sarah baked the dessert with the kids which they loved doing. Banoffee Pie. Yum. I mowed lots of lawns, the "new" mower has been getting a great workout this Summer.
Yesterday Beth went over to her friend Ashley's place for the day, I took Theo to Anderson Park with Biscuit and we went for a bit of a walk around while we waited for the trains to start up. We went for a ride on the trains, leaving Biscuit tied up. He yelped a bit but wasn't too bad. Everyone loves to cuddle a puppy so a few people went past to give him cuddles. He loves kids, I guess because he grew up with them.
It's been so hot as I said, so most days I've taken the kids into the pool a couple of times. I think I said it last time, but the pool has been really fun this Summer. I'm glad we've looked after it and kept it going - it's been really great to see the kids loving it so much this summer. Theo leaping in with gusto, being able to swim pretty much half the length of the pool, while Beth can swim from one end to the other. It's been great, something I've really enjoyed with them.
Back at work today. Very quiet, Rachael's not here yet, a few others are aware for a few more days. I've taken Thursday and Friday off to spend a bit more time with everyone. Theo was back at Kindy today, Beth did a great job of pretending she was going to school too so that Theo wouldn't be upset. All morning she kept up the "I'm going to school" story including coming in the car with me to Kindy to drop Theo off. She was pretty proud of herself for keeping the ruse up the whole time, as she should be!
