Di Visits, Biscuit Training, Beth's Cushion Concert

Submitted by TiM on

It was the end-of-year school Cushion Concert at Arthur Miller School last night.  It was supposed to be outside at the school itself, but it was moved pretty much at the last minute to the Pettigrew Green Arena because of the rain that was forecast, and hit the building, while the event was on.  We all took our cushions along, Beth went to sit with her classmates while we all watched from the parents side.  There was some real singing with gusto and some prize giving, it was a good night overall and didn't go for too long.  Which was good because Theo was starting to get a bit ERRRRR towards the end of it.

Both he and I spent the day at home yesterday, I'd woken up feeling pretty terrible after a long night.  Theo had woken up 5-6 times during the night, waking up at 5am or so screaming because the light and fan in his room weren't on anymore.  Turns out there was a Unison power outage so everything in the house was off.  Certainly Theo let us know anyway, I went in to calm him down and even that was a bit difficult because it was so dark in his room we couldn't find label for a minute there.  Eventually he drifted back off to sleep.  So I made the call on Tuesday morning to stay home, I felt bad and I didn't think Theo would be that great at Grandma's with having had such a rough sleep.  We stayed at home and mostly watched TV, at 1pm I forced him into bed for a sleep which he didn't want, but I lay next to time and before I knew it we were both fast asleep until ~3pm or so, when we had to get up to get ready for the school concert.  I almost wasn't going to go the concert but I'm glad I did.

Biscuit is doing great.  He's starting to learn that his bed is his bed and being told to "Get on your bed" seems to be working most of the time.  He's getting a bit better at going wee outside instead of inside on the carpet, as Mum mentioned to me on the phone Sunday morning, the trick is just to put him outside every hour or so.  He does already seem to be very well toilet trained from the breeders, so that's good.  He's getting a little bit better at not jumping up at the kids either, but they don't do him any favours by squealing at everything he does, so of course he thinks it's hilarious and keeps doing it more.  He's got sit pretty much sorted, but of course if he's really excited or thinks you're playing a game he forgets.  But he's doing a great job.  Though I found a single flea near him the other day, so it was into the bath time.  He really did not enjoy that, especially when I accidentally bumped on the shower mode of the laundry tap.  He was fully traumatised from that, poor fella.  At least he smells clean and has a much fluffier coat now.  I didn't find anymore fleas on him either, so I think it might have just been a one off.

Saturday after swimming we all (Di too) went up to Taradale to the Christmas Festival that was organised.  We lined up for 30 minutes to go and visit Santa in a changing room in the back of the opshop.  Theo asked again for a cricket set, we'd better get him one or it's going to be tears-a-rama on Christmas Day.  Beth isn't sure what she wants so asked for a Unicorn.  Santa was obviously a Cricket Fan though as Theo got a Fist Bump from Santa when he asked for that.  One we'd done that we got some hotdogs (30+ minutes after we ordered them!!!) and went to the playground for a bit.  Sunday morning we all went to the Farmers Market, far out it was super hot!   We were lucky and got a spot with an Umbrella, so we stayed camped under that for the morning.  Once we got home we got into the pool here (well, the kids did) and had a bit of a swim around while Sarah took Di back to the airport.  I got the kids out after a little while because the pool really needs a bit more of a properly clean and chlorination.  Well I've done it now and it's looking much better, but it was pretty murkey on Sunday morning.

Last week I had early morning training on Weds/Thurs/Friday so I did the kid pickup each afternoon.  It's always nice to go and pickup Beth as she's waiting there with Mrs Sinden.  Though she really does not like to talk much about her school day.  I thought she'd be older before she didn't want to talk about school at all, but apparently 5 is the age where it's all just too much to talk about.  Theo's always super excited to see me pick him up "Daddy!" he screams and runs over.  Beth's much more "Oh well I guess this is happening!"

Biking home last week I ran over a huge nail and got a puncture.  Had to walk home for 3km.  Thankfully got the bike fixed pretty quickly so was back up and going on Friday.

Marathon training has definitely slowed down - I went for a 5km run on Thursday and then again on Saturday.  My knee still feels funny, but it's not getting any worse.  I think I'll have to go see a physio though to try and do some work to be sure it doesn't get any worse.  I'd have gone for a run this morning but am still feeling half and half from yesterday.  I am glad though I can still do 5km without too much hassle/grief.  That's still a long, long way from 42km but I still have a lot of training time ahead of me too.  I just hope the ol' knee comes along for the ride.  With the downturn in exercise my weight loss has slowed.  At least it hasn't gone in the other direction though, that'd be cause for alarm!
