I think it's migrated

Submitted by TiM on

Hello from the newly updated tjharman.com. A bit ugly huh?
The migration of the data from one to the other was a right pain in the arse, but I think it's all here pretty much. I've got the old site on standby though in case I realise half the data is missing or broken and need to roll it back. I always go back and check I can still read my first post back in October 2000 and it seems to still be working, so I think I can assume everything is in place.

Drupal 8 doesn't have very many nice themes available, they're all designed for people who are web developers so they can take them and "build their own" from them. And do I look like I'm a web developer? No, I do not. So I am using this blog theme for the moment, I'll try and...

Websites Changes

Submitted by TiM on

You'll notice a few changes on tjharman.com today.
A lots of old features that were never used have been removed.
Print page, the funny "read the rest" link (ok, I used that a lot) and the Archive menu (Ok, I used that a lot too)

I'm cutting down all on the "extra" fluff I had installed before I upgrade my site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8. Removing lots of old/not really used stuff helps the migration. I'll bring back the archive menu when I finish the upgrade.
And all the old statuses are gone, but archived here (warning, loads...

Rode To Work

Submitted by TiM on

Rode to and from work again yesterday - it's been ages since I did it. I tried to do it a couple of weeks ago but when I went to pump up my rear tire it wouldn't pump, only hissed air. Crabbed off I scootered to work, when I tried to fix it later that night I realised the valve on the tube had pulled out and there was a hole. Really crabbed off I put it back in the shed. A few weeks later I finally remembered to take it up to the bike shop for them to fix...

Flight Delays

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah texted on Friday night to say her flight home was delayed. And then again an hour later to say it was cancelled. Bummer! She got booked on an 8:20am flight the next morning and given a hotel for the night. No worries, I hadn't reminded the kids yet she was supposed to be coming home on the Friday night flight, so they didn't know. Went to bed, woke up the next morning and started to get the kids ready.
Very upset and sad phone call from Sarah at about 7:50am, she'd set her alarm for 6:30pm, not 6:30am and was probably not going to make it to the airport in time.
Amazingly I got a text from her about 20 minutes later to say that, dress on backwards and inside out, she'd made it to the airport and just managed to board before they closed the flight! Phew. So...

Travel Week

Submitted by TiM on

I flew down to Wellington on Tuesday morning, back on Wednesday night. Sarah flew up to Auckland yesterday morning and is flying back sometime tonight. It's all happening in Harman land. I had a good couple of days in Wellington, just some work stuff to get sorted out, nothing major. Had some good catchups with work people, went well.
I picked the kids up from Kindy yesterday, fed them and got them in the bath. While in the bath the next door neighbour came over to tell me about how his sensor alarm had gone off at 3am in the morning and caught on tape a guy prowling. So his family got up and chased this dude around for a while, eventually the police nabbed him and he had a bag full of stolen stuff. And apparently has only recently got out of prison for similar crimes! Anyway I got...

Unicorn Party

Submitted by TiM on

Friday night Sarah and I got the house ready for the onslaught of children. Why do you tidy a house before 8 odd toddlers arrive? That's a bit of an existential question I suppose. Anyway we got everything ready, Sarah baked an amazing Unicorn cake, and associated unicorn horns. She'd already bought lots of stuff from Aliexpress including giant unicorn balloons, unicorn horns and cups etc. It was pretty unitense.

Everyone arrived on Saturday morning, shame it was a bit wet and raining but that didn't really matter, everyone was happy to run around. Pass the Parcel was a total trainwreck though, technology totally let me down so I ended up giving the winning present to Beth! ARRRGHH!!! How stupid. Thankfully there was a second pass the parcel that someone else won. Gosh how stupid though, Adrian pre-warned me it was stressful and I didn't realise how right he was...

1 More Day

Submitted by TiM on

I more day until Beth's 4th Birthday. Each morning when she gets up now we get my phone and have a look at the little app I have installed that counts down the days. Sarah baked the cakes for the big day last night, they are looking and smelling good!
I took them up to Taradale last night to buy some dinner, I helped Theo put his shoes on and then, totally unprompted, he went and picked up Beth's boots and took them down her to room for her. Of course she screamed at him "No Theo I don't want those ones" but he's still such a lovely little helpful man. Beth does the same sorts of things for him though, bringing him a toy when he's sad or of course his ever-loving friend little bae.

We had a nice weekend up in Taupo with Ben and Di. Di's Uncle...

Hippy Early Biffday

Submitted by TiM on

Had a little party at home last night with Peter and Mary for my birthday. A day early, but considering I'm on a plane to New Plymouth at the moment it was better to have it a day early than sulk by myself in my motel room tonight. The kids helped me unwrap my presents and by helped I mean basically took over the job. Beth especially couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed to unwrap all the presents until I asked her if it's OK for me to unwrap all hers when it's her birthday. That seemed to cement the idea in her brain, at least a little bit.
I got some really cool presents, the neatest of which is a pair of googles that are my glasses prescription. So when I put them on I can see really clearly with my glasses off. They're quite amazing really, I can't...

Still Sick

Submitted by TiM on

I'm still sick, Sarah's crook, Theo's nose is running majorly and Beth's still got a nasty cough. I can't believe how long this has been hanging around us all, it's mental. It's been ~3 weeks since I felt normal, I'm going to have a painkiller habit if this keep up much longer.
Theo woke up really early this morning, probably his cold was giving him grief. I tried to give him a sleep before it was swimming time. This term swimming has moved from 3:30 in the afternoon to 11:30 in the morning. Which is annoying because they didn't really communicate this to us very clearly, so Sarah was there at 3:30 a few weeks ago wondering why the place was closed up. And 11:30 is right when Theo would usually be having a sleep, so now we have to try and either get him down to sleep really early...
