Well it's been ages since I've written a proper story, it just seems so hard to find the time to do it, but I suspect really it's just that I'm lazy. When I bought my new laptop I sort of promised myself I'd try and keep my diary up to date, but it hasn't really worked out that well! I will try harder!
The only reason for this is because I hate it when I got back to look at what I was doing for a period of time, only to realise there's 2 weeks gap between my last few entries. The best part of keeping a diary like this is to go back and rememeber stuff, it doesn't work if I don't! Anyway.
Last Thursday (i.e. one week ago, that's how long it's been) Peter drove down in his hire car with it packed to the brim. He had all a lot of the boxes that we'd packed up in Halifax with him, some he was going to take back to New Zealand himself but most he was going to leave here. We're going to sort through all of John's things and ship some back to Peter, keep a few things and I'm not sure what we'll do with the rest.
Thursday night we went out to dinner, Sarah and I, Peter, plus Maggie Andy and the girls. We went to this really nice pub that's only about a 20 minute walk from our house, we didn't even know about it. We had a really nice meal, even Andy the chef was very impressed with what he was served up. Mostly it was nice to go somewhere where the staff have been trained to be helpful instead of avoiding you. Once we'd finshed up there Sarah and I walked up the road to where everyone else had driven to another local pub that was recommended. This one wasn't quite so good, a lovely pub but with a very angry lady serving drinks. We still had a good time though.
We all ended up back at Maggie and Andy's, Sarah and I then had to brave the cold weather to catch a tube back to our little apartment.
Friday both Sarah and I had taken off, Peter came over early in the morning to pack up some final things and to take us out to the airport with him. We left with plenty of time which was a good thing as we took a few wrong turning trying to find the right way back to the hirecar place. We made it without to much hassle though, realised the queue was going to take a while at the airport so we all went and got a nice big ol' burger for breakfast. Usually airport food is pretty average but this burger was one of the best! So much so I am forever immortalising it (while spelling that word wrong I'm sure) by writing about it. Burger, you were tasty.
We saw Peter off a few hours later and took the tube back home. We then spent the rest of the day tidying up and enjoying our day off!
Saturday I woke up at 10am and couldn't shake the nagging feeling I was forgetting something. I tried to doze off again, but then suddenly remembered I had Karate! I leap out of bed and jumped on the bike, I was a tiny bit late but it didn't matter. I'm glad I made it, I was very tempted just to think "bugger it" and keep sleeping in, but I always feel much more awake and alive after an hour of usu!
We spent the afternoon beginning to sort through all the boxes, matching cables up with computer bits, wires up with their owner and other things. We have a good inventory of everything now and where it is, which will help us over the next few weeks. Saturday night we went over to John's place, John is the person who runs the Bootcamp that Sarah does. We watched the movie "Disturbia" which promised to be good but in fact was a little bit lame. It was good entertainment though and that's all we really got it out for!
This week hasn't been that exciting really, except for the fact we've booked another holiday to Thailand. Kelly is coming to Thailand too so it'll be a real blast. The actual booking of the flights has been a total nightmare which I'll save for another post tomorrow, but we're almost on the home strech. Suffice to say the UK banking system is one of the most backwards banking systems in the world.
Sarah's still isn't over her flu, it's been hanging around for a couple of weeks now which isn't much fun at all for her, hopefully she'll get better soon. We've got our Thailand holiday to look forward to now, lots of fun in the sun. This time we're going to head to Phuket and Koh PiPi. I'm looking forward to it already (it's not until the middle of March)
That's all, time to head to bed and get some sleep.
Tim
Yeah. I remember the UK
Yeah. I remember the UK banking system, I'm still in it, in fact.
IT IS ARCHAIC. Amazing that a country that big could be so far behind. Incredible.
