Oscar's OK!

Submitted by TiM on

The vet rang today at 1pm to let me know that Oscar was fine, back on his perch and chirping. I went out to get him an hour and a half later, he was out the back but even there I could hear him clucking loudly. He's got some antibiotics and some anti-inflamatories, plus new stuff to eat instead of seed. I didn't realise just how bad seed is for caged birds but the vet had to chat to me about it.
Good to have him back!

I went to a second job interview this morning, it looks like it's all go for the upcoming work. There's paperwork to sort out but we (Prophecy) have a verbal agreement with the company in question for the work. It's going to be exciting!

Not much else to tell you really!

So what should we feed birds then if not seed? Katie is very fussy and only likes the DR Harry brand, and will only pick at anything else. She alos loves toast and crackers but turns her beak up at anything green or remotely fruit or vegie like!!!

I'd actually read a lot on the 'net about how seed is bad for birds over a long period of time. What we've been recommended by the vet is Harrison's Bird Food which is basically little pellets. Now you could argue the vet has a vested interest in telling us this (they're the only ones that sell it in New Zealand) but I had already read a lot about how you should fed caged birds pellets and not seed. It's not actually that expensive for a bag of it either, $18 which is enough food for almost 2 months.

Oscar's always liked fruit and veg which is good, but he's not that keen on his little pellets. There's a bunch of tips for helping to change them over to pellets, so I'm just following those.

If you're worried about Katie at all take her to an avian vet. I was amazed at how much the vet we saw knew compared to the few other vets that have seen Oscar. She sounds happy though and that's the main thing!
