The Oscar Emergency

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday when we got home from a the beach I noticed that Oscar had what seemed to be a bit of blood on each wing. We didn't think too much of it, it's really hot at the moment and he's moulting so we just assumed he was probably pulling feathers out and they were bleeding a little bit. We went out for a bit of attempted shopping which failed miserably, we got to R&R sports just as it closed and payless plastics had closed down (with a trespass noticed on the door) for good.
When we got back from that trip, I noticed that Oscar had a lot more blood on his beak and on closer examination, all around his bum hole!
Quite worried now we rung up the after hours vet and organised a 9pm exam for him. He seemed fine, he was bouncing around and chirping as usual so we weren't too worried. The vet had a look at him and told us he's just broken a tail feather and that's obviously bleeding a bit now and then, causing him to peck at it etc. He gave us some antibiotics and told us he'll be fine. Phew!

It was extra stressful because Mum just wrote me an email yesterday to say that Geraldine isn't doing so well at the moment. She is very old so it's not really a shock. Hope you'll be ok Pood!

Apart from that drama yesterday, Sarah got up bright and early to go to a interview for Census New Zealand. She's applied to become a collector for them and it sounds like the interview went really well.

We also went to the beach, which was an amazing amount of hassle! It took us about an hour to get the beach, there was some sort of major blockage on the motorway so we had to sit in traffic for about 40 minute before finally we made it there. At least it was a really nice day, the sun was pouring down and the water was nice and warm. We stayed there for a couple of hours before the huge big black rain clouds came over and blocked out all our sun.

It's a holiday again tomorrow, Waitangi Day! Woohoo!
