Training

Submitted by TiM on

I'm on a training course for the rest of this week. Oh and the whole week after that. Then the next week. Oh and finally the week after that. I'm doing so much training they'll have to retrain me to do my job at the end of it.

I finish right around the time we move into our new place. The move in date gets closer with each passing day. We've already got a microwave organised, but that's about it. We only need a few things, i.e. everything when we move!

We had a nice quiet weekend, we went to the French market again because it's quite awesome. Tasty French food without having to speak French. Or be anywhere near France. Both good things in my opinion.

Over and out!

Sold Sign!

Submitted by TiM on

We snuck past today to see if the Sold! sign was up and it is! So of course we had to snap a quick photo.

We also set out to find a nice Cafe near to our new house and we scored big! We found a great cafe right near, so when you all come to visit we can take you there. But you'll have to buy your own lunch because we'll be flat broke! :)

Hello! Updates!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello! I wrote a bit of a story about the saga of the house purchase. If you want to read it you'll need to login and then click here. It's probably not exciting to anyone but myself though!

We had a great weekend, trying not to worry about the house in the back of our minds. It was also fantastic not to have to be doing the Open Home circuit!
Sarah was able to get out and about with the MoonBoot so we took advantage of the lovely sun and spent Saturday afternoon over in Devonport. It was lovely...

Done. Purchased. Phew.

It's done! Can't believe it but we've done it. We own a house. We've seen the plans from the council and they seem OK for the drainage and it's on him to do the work. So after a lot of "Do we? Don't we?" we said "Stuff it! Let's do it!" and did it. We didn't want to seller to walk away (or take up some other offer he had), so we said yes. We have to hope that he does what he says he'll do, otherwise we'll have to do a bit of stuffing around, but hey. Small problems...

Progress

Submitted by TiM on

We're getting the building inspector in today, Sarah's going to attend to make sure he looks in every nook and cranny. Tomorrow the registered valuer is coming to tell us how much the market says it's worth. We should be able to say we're unconditional on Friday, assuming the roof isn't about to cave in and assuming the amount we signed for isn't more than what Mr Valuation dude thinks it's worth. It shouldn't be...

Finally!

Submitted by TiM on

After A LOT of back and forth we have finally agreed a price on the property we've been pursuing for the last month? Two months? It feels like forever anyway! It's not ours yet, still have to do the building reports and sort out finance, but unless anything major crops up we should be good to go.

And by go of course, I mean move out of the shoebox! Trying not to get too excited yet because of all the paperwork we've still got to sort though.

The patient is well on the road to recovery, though it'll be a slow road. She went to the soft tissue clinic yesterday and they said it's progressing well but it was obviously very injury because there is still some swelling two weeks later. She's still using MoonBoot but able to get around now without crutches.

That's it! Hopefully our days of house...

Patient Update

Submitted by TiM on

The patient is here on the bed recovering well, the cast came off today and she now has a moon boot to show off to people instead. Still on the crutches, but a lot better getting around that the poor girl has been for the last couple of days.

Friday was easily the worst day! I've been taking Sarah to work in the car and the entrance to her building is a set of about 8 steps. You never notice them usually, until you're helping your poor wife with only one good leg.

She had to hop up and down them to get anywhere, only one way each day, but still. Friday the stair hop didn't go very well and I caught her, but we were kinda stuck on the stairs in the rain. Proof that there is still kindness in a world, a random stranger who was driving past...

The Netball Incident!

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah rang me on Tuesday night "Do you want to play Netball tonight?" Not being a huge fan of Netball I was a bit hesitant but we were going to be helping out some of her workmates who'd organised a roster, then had half the people they'd organised pull out.
I caught the train out to the Netball centre, met Sarah and her workmates there and got a quick 30 second rundown of the rules. Then we headed off to play.

We played for all of about 35 seconds before *crunch* and Sarah was lying on the ground, having rolled her (already bad) ankle! I helped carry her off but she insisted she wasn't too bad and that I should keep playing.
We got beaten at netball but it wasn't a total thrashing.
Afterwards Sarah and I drove to the A&E where they said it really needed X-Rays, so we...

Mouse 1 - Humans 0.

Submitted by TiM on

We have a mouse in the house. We saw him the other night running in behind the shoe rack. Even I get lost behind the shoe rack. Sarah said that he was probably coming in through the front door. I said there's no way he could fit under that gap, it's non-existent. 10 minutes later *bing* and he was gone, slipping under the front door in a split second. Smartypants mouse.

So I drove down to the supermarket and bought a couple of traps, the really old-school ones. I set them and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and one had been licked clean. It was cleaner that morning than it had been when I'd bought it. I went to retrieve the trap by setting it off, which proved impossible. There's a reason $1.50-for-two mouse traps are so cheap, an elephant wouldn't have set it off.

Friday night...

Burnt Fingers and Painting Cars

Hello there diary I haven't forgotten about you I just haven't had a lot to tell you. It's been a nice short week this week because Monday was the Queen's Birthday so we got a day off for that. Thanks, Queenie, hope it was a good birthday and that you enjoy the Australian one coming up this Monday.

So New Zealand is all caught up in its own little expenses scandal. I really don't know why they bother though, everyone knows that it happens don't they? Is anyone really naïve enough to think that politicians don't abuse their tax-payer funded cards?

Even the TV presenter said on TV last night that this has always gone on for years, but it's just that this is the first time it's been made public. It's the same thing that happened in the UK a few years ago and it's equally as boring this...
