Settlement Day!

Submitted by TiM on

Today's the day! I just logged into our Internet Banking and even though I knew it was coming, I still choked a little bit. Woah.

We went round last night to do a pre-purchase inspection. Took about 1 minute, everything was still there so we're ready to go. Just need confirmation from the Lawyer today that he's paid the money to the other guys lawyer and we'll be able to move in. Hopefully around lunchtime!

It's going to be a hell busy 48 hours!

The three and a half hour dinner

We're back from our weekend jaunt down to Napier. Driving down on Friday night (Friday the 13th) was terrible. It was pissing with rain for the 4/5ths of the way and blowing a total gale the whole way. It made driving not much fun, especially with our squeaky windscreen wiper. I really must get around to getting that fixed. We made it safe and sound but somewhat later than we'd hoped.

Saturday I got up early to work on Peter and Mary's replacement computer. Their old one was super slow and clunky, we had one in storage we weren't using so I got that loaded up with everything they needed.

Then we drove to the storage locker to organise it all. All the loose or odd shaped items we took out and loaded in the car. So we had a carload of stuff but a mostly tidy and ready-to-go storage...

Twitter the Sky Tower.

Submitted by TiM on

Last night after driving back from looking at chairs that I wouldn't let Sarah buy, we noticed the Sky Tower was doing its colour changing tricks. They'd set up a Twitter account for the Tower so you could send it messages and it's change to the colour you requested. So we rushed home to grab the camera to take some photos. We pulled up, camera ready to go, and I sent it a message asking for "Where's Wally Red and White". 30 seconds later the Auckland sky was lit up Red and White! It was really quick and quite amazing. I thought they'd be getting heaps of requests but maybe they weren't, or maybe my request was just too good to pass up. 10 minutes later we sent it another message, Sarah wanted Turquoise. After sending back a message that said "Stand by for Turquoise" sure enough it turned a...

Getting Close!

Submitted by TiM on

Getting so close! This weekend we're heading to Napier to sort out the storage locker and get everything ready for the big move up the next week. The lawyers sent through a letter today saying the bank's been in contact and there's scary forms for us to sign.

MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Just joking. Can't wait!

It's cold in Auckland at the moment, I'm still doing training though this is the last week. I'm glad, because work is piling up. This week we're learning about DWDM and Optical Networks. It's all very interesting and I can't wait to get back to work to put some of my newly found knowledge to work.

Sarah's leg is doing OK. The Moonboot MKII stays on all the time. She gave MKII a 8/10 today, the original Moonboot only gets a 4/10 on her scale. So I'm glad Boot v2 gets a...

This is going to be THE Fridge.

Submitted by TiM on

Saturday morning we went over to the new house and met the Real Estate agent. She let us in and we went nuts with the measuring tape, which had been purchased specially on Friday afternoon for the purpose of measuring.

We then drove over to the North Shore to Wairu Park, which is a place full of Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman and all those sorts of places. We spent about 4 hours looking at all the appliances, finding the perfect fridge and washing machine. Then we spent about another hour fighting them off against each other, seeing who would give us the better deal. I think we got the screws on pretty tightly, in the end we purchased from The Good Guys because they'd done the most work helping us decide.

Now we own the fridge. That fridge is going to be there for the next 10 odd years! It's...

Moon Boot MKII

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah went back to the Dr's today to get the cast removed and another Moon Boat fitted. She still had the Moon Boot from last night, but it was so worn out and knackered that she got another one. This one is way cooler, it has little dials to adjust and just overall looks more meataxe. Not that being more meataxe means a real lot, long as it helps her get better.

I rang TelstraClear (the old company I used to work for) to tell them we're moving house. I rang at 6:05pm. At 7pm, 55 minutes after I initially...

A phone call from the agent

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah's still sore, but it doesn't seem to be quite as bad as last time. The cast is coming off tomorrow so we're hopeful that the news will be good from that.

Got a call from the Real Estate agent today, which I wasn't expecting. The seller of our soon-to-be-new-house has some work to do to get the drainage up to to scratch. But he's being nice and offered for us to come and have a look at the work that'd been done thus far and to explain what else is going to happen.

So we're heading over on Saturday to have a look and see what's happening. He's also said we're welcome to look around and measure anything that we want so we can figure out how big of a bed/fridge etc.

It's going to be really cool to look around with the mindset of "soon we'll own this!"...

The Ankle Strikes Again!

Submitted by TiM on

I got a call from Sarah at 9am yesterday morning while I was sipping on coffee at training. Oh no! She was just walking at work and wooshka! Her ankle went again, really badly. So she's back in bed and her ankle is back in a cast.
It's so horrible, the poor thing. She was doing really well in her recovery from the Netball injury and was able to walk around well without the Moon Boot.
Alas! So we're back to Square One with the recovery process, though when she woke up this morning she wasn't in any pain unlike the first time she did it, so I'm hoping it's a lesser injury than last time.

Otherwise everything is well at the Harman household. The elephants upstairs are moving out this weekend (they got too many complaints) so our last few weeks should be in relative peace.

The End!

Notice

Submitted by TiM on

I'm going to hand our notice into the landlord today. Rachael if you're reading this we're moving out. Though I doubt you're reading my diary otherwise you'd have twigged already. Or maybe not actually, now I think about it.

I've got two days of non-training, otherwise known as work, today and tomorrow. I hope I can remember how to do my job. It's something to do with routers and switches.

Keep realising more good things about owning a house. We'll have a driveway and be able to wash and vacuum the car. Such a simple thing and we haven't been able to do it (without paying a car wash place.)
Sarah is getting very excited about chairs. What sort, what colour etc. I'm getting excited about brewing beer/ginger beer.

Not too long now!

Another lovely sunny Auckland morning, my train is pulling into the station so I better sign off...

Training - Week 2

Submitted by TiM on

I'm still doing training, this is week two of four. It's getting interesting this week, not that last wasn't interesting but it wasn't really tax-your-brain hard either. This week promises to be a bit more interesting as we get into the nitty gritty of configuring our devices for SDH. Joyful times.

We had a good weekend, Saturday afternoon we realised we had a gift voucher for Sarah's Birthday (all the way back in February) that we hadn't spent yet, so we went off to Red Currant to spend it. Sunday we went to the French Market again (so tasty) and then went back home and did a bit of gardening out the back. Apparently the landlord is requiring all tenants to ensure the back yard is nicely landscaped before leaving. Which isn't really a problem for us because we've always kept it in pretty good condition. But yesterday I pulled...
