House Work

Submitted by TiM on

Boy time gets away from me quickly! We're both good, so's Tui. She's allowed outside now she has her little cat nametag, so she roams around happily. Have to teach her to go poop outside and we're all sorted!

We had a great weekend, just cleaning out all the crap from the garden. We planted a little veggie and herb garden and removed a heap of crap from the back yard. I took it all to the tip on Sunday only to realise it was closed. I drove to another tip, it too was closed. I was a bit annoyed about that, but these things happen.

I'm on a training course for 3 days this week, advanced VPN configuration. It's going well, good to get back into some of the stuff I haven't done in ages.

I bought a Leather Chair off one of those "get in quick 24 hours...

The Underfed Moggie

Submitted by TiM on

I realised last night that I've been totally underfeeding Tui. I measured out the amount of food I've been giving her and weighed it, realising I was only giving her ~30grams of food a day when the box said at least 60g. I mentioned this to Sarah who said "How many scoops are you giving her?" and was rather aghast when I said "1 scoop in the morning and 1 at night". Turns out Sarah was giving her 2 scoops each time, which is sort of the minimum.
So I'm sorry about that Tui! At least we know now why...

Roof Crawling

Submitted by TiM on

Bit of a wild weekend in Auckland! The wind and rain was intense, people at work yesterday were telling me stories of how their trampolines flew over two houses with one of the massive gusts of wind that hit.
We just huddled in the house and hoped the roof wouldn't blow off, which thankfully it didn't.

Saturday after shopping to buy a chest of drawers I decided to get up in the roof and mess around to try and figure out what's causing us to have nearly 0 DSL signal. It's pretty hard, I had to go and buy some planks so I could crawl around up there without falling through. After spending ages trying to isolate the problem, I just dragged the modem up into the roof. Even doing tat (which meant I was bypassing any other phone jacks in the house) didn't make a difference, so I'm fairly...

Weather Bombs

Submitted by TiM on

Apparently we're going to get hit with a weather bomb today the size of Australia. It's the nicest most sunny morning ever today, so it doesn't seem likely. But I brought my umbrella just in case, though I don't know how much help it'll be if the predicted 100km/h winds kick in.

A won a cake at work yesterday, there was a raffle raising funds for the Christchurch Earthquake. Here's a photo of the cake, I gave it to Sarah to take to her work today.

We've had a fault on our DSL line at home for the last week. The modem connects but at a terribly low speed. Got Telstra to look at it but turns out it's something to do with the wiring in the house. Which is annoying because that means I'll have to get up in the roof and fossick around. With no real clue...

Couch Covering

Submitted by TiM on

Monday morning is here and I am pretty much over my flu. Still coughing like a beast but the fever has gone and I am enjoying my coffee again. That's a major step forward.

We had a fairly busy/productive day yesterday. Sarah re-covered a couch and a chair that Sarah's parents gave us. They were covered in hideous Teddy Bears, all staring at you with their hollow, haunted eyes. Before you say I'm attacking Sarah's parents tastes, I should tell you that the originally loaned the couch and chairs to someone who took it upon themselves to 'get creative' with them.
So now they're looking a lot more respectable.

I mowed the lawns again (they grow so fast with all the rain we're getting) and then whippersnippered the edges with my new electric whippersnipper purchased on the weekend. The lawns are looking respectable once again, though I bet that only...

Get Down with the Sickness

Submitted by TiM on

I have the stupid flu. Even though I had a flu shot this year, it hasn't helped, because it's the flu that just kicks you right in the guts and leaves you breathless.
Last night I couldn't sleep because even though I was mega exhausted and tired, my stupid sore throat and/or coughing would keep me awake as I tried to doze off. So frustrating. I'm feeling a tiny bit better today, so I'm hoping I'll be fully over it by Monday. It'll be one of the flu's that linger for weeks though.

Even worse, poor Sarah started coming down with it yesterday. We can only hope that it doesn't knock her out as badly as it's knocked me out, 4 days off work for me thus far. Not good.

The flip side of being sick is that I have some awesomely weird dreams. The other night I dreamt I...

Busy Busy Busy!

Submitted by TiM on

Usually I don't update because I haven't been up to much, but that's not the case this time! We've been so flat out since last weekend and this weekend is proving to be no exception.

We got a little cat today, we've called her Tui because she looks like the Tui bird. She's all black (well, dark brown) with a little white spot on her front. She's really nervous and timid, but we've been playing with her quite a lot and she's starting to purr (and drool) now. She's 3 years old, she's an SPCA cat.

We're settling in well to the house. Today we've done the following:

Bought a ladder
Bought blinds & curtains
Bought pots and pans
Bought a cat

I've cleaned the drains out with my new ladder, they were full of crap! I mean, so full that mosquitos would have been up there breeding in the...

Home Sweet Home

Submitted by TiM on

So we're in! We survived 3 days of intense rain and a long drive all the way from Napier to Auckland with a double axle trailer to get to our new home. Extra special big thanks to Peter, Mary, Holly and Adrian for coming up to Auckland for the weekend to help us.

Friday afternoon Sarah drove out to the airport to collect her Mum and then headed back to the Real Estate's to collect the keys. All of this in the pouring, pouring rain. I finished work after one of those afternoons where everything went wrong and I couldn't sneak out early. (Dear Work: I never would anyway)

I caught the train up to Morningside station and got off, of course then I got dumped on. Timing was on my side and Sarah just happened to be driving nearby so she came and got me and I had my...
