10 Years!

Submitted by TiM on

You know what? I never realised it at the time, but on the 27th of October this year, Tim's Diary turned 10 years old. 10 years! That's a bloody long time. I've never once stopped writing in it, given up or had it offline (well, for any length of time!) So there's 10 years of archives. I wish I'd taken some screenshots of how it used to look back in the day. It was pretty clunky, it had comments way before it was the thing to have comments! I did find that logo up the top there that graced the site for many years until Sarah started designing much cooler headers! Read on for some highlights!

Here's the first ever story posted.

Here's Sarah's first ever comment, just after she came up to see me when my lung collapsed for the first time.

Hear You Go!

Got my ears syringed today. I tried, dumped litres of waxsol in there, hot water in the ear (lots of goop come out but it didn't unblock) and I was so sick of it I just gave in and went this morning.
They did both ears and wow, some one has really turned the volume of the world up today.
So I'm much happier and less grumpy today.

What? WHAT? You'll have to SPEAK UP!

My stupid ear is all blocked up again. It seems to be almost a yearly thing, it gets near Christmas, the weather starts to warm up and my ears gum up. We shoved a heap of Waxsol into my right ear last night in an attempt to help things along. All that seems to have done is blocked it up 100%, which is worse than how it was. So I'm half deaf today, which is of course quite annoying. More Waxsol tonight and if that doesn't work time to head off for a syringing!

Microwave Mudcake

Submitted by TiM on

Other success stories this weekend include learning how to make a Mudcake in a Mug in the microwave. You too can learn how to do this by clicking here. It is a sight to behold and I very much doubt you'll be able to eat a whole one. I couldn't and I was starving.

I also walked up to the local neighbourhood watch meeting to say hi. I met this guy on the way there. So friendly and so not-fluffy at all. It was like patting a sandpaper.
Neighbourhood watch wasn't very exciting, they're more concerned with their little patch of the woods, our street is too far away. So that's it, I'm starting up a rival neighbourhood watch and we'll show them how uncool they are.
Or something.

The mirror's still hanging!

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Submitted by TiM on

Bit of a DIY emergency yesterday. Anyone who knows me knows that I suck at DIY stuff. Drills, ladders, hammers and nails are all scary things to me. So it was with some trepidation that we purchased a large, heavy mirror for the lounge on the weekend. I didn't even really think about it at purchase time, but of course being the only person with two fully operational legs, I'd have to be the one to hang it. Oh, shit.

No worries, we headed off to the hardware store yesterday and purchased some bloody large screws and a stud finder. Back home and the first thing I had to do was test the stud finder on myself. Studness confirmed.

So then I set about measuring and marking and re-marking where I was going to put the mirror. Checked where the studs were in the wall. Measured and checked again. Remeasured...

Friday Finally

Submitted by TiM on

Friday is finally here, woohoo! It's been a good week, things are worked out pretty well so I go into work in the morning and then head home about lunchtime to make sure Sarah's doing alright. Now she has her shiny new Pink cast on she should be a bit more mobile, it's lightweight compared to the old one and she's allowed to put half her weight on it for the first two weeks then all her weight on it for the last two.

EDIT: Sarah found this gem this morning. This is how I feel explaining things to people sometimes.

It'll come off just in time for Christmas! It was pretty impressive when the big cast come off yesterday, the scars were quite impressive and the swelling was, well, it looked like she'd been bitten by a puff adder. The surgeon said it was healing well and Sarah's not...

The Damn Cat

Submitted by TiM on

I get out of a meeting this afternoon to find this string of messages waiting for me on Skype from Sarah:

14:39:19 Sarah H: the cat has a giant bird
14:39:21 Sarah H: eewwwwwwww
14:39:22 Sarah H: wwww
14:40:35 Sarah H: omg
14:40:39 Sarah H: shes meowing
14:40:44 Sarah H: ewww she dropped it on the rug
14:40:54 Sarah H: shes meowing at me
14:40:55 Sarah H: aegh
14:48:09 Sarah H: there's blood all over the floor and the rug
14:48:16 Sarah H: i keep batting her away with my crutches
14:48:19 Sarah H: but she's determined

I know I shouldn't but I couldn't help but laugh. Then read it aloud to my workmates who also had a good chuckle.

So I had to come home and clean up huge bird. Poor bird. And it wasn't even the one that perches outside our house and make a god awful racket...

French Doors

Submitted by TiM on

Tell you it's a superb thing that our house has French doors. It's been so hot this weekend and being able to open up the front and back with a cool breeze blowing through makes it so nice. French doors are the shiz, so to speak.

Did a heap of gardening yesterday. Mowed all the lawns, cut back the overexcited ferns. Got out the whippasnippa and went to town on all the grass and weeds about the place.
When we first got the whippasnippa I thought I was really, really bad with it. I couldn't go more than about 5 minutes without needing to replace the cord. A time consuming and increasingly frustrating task. Friday night I went and bought a new head, one where you easily replace the cutting cord. With the new cutting cord, I can go for ages without needing to replace it! Which makes me happy...

Web Site Speedups!

Submitted by TiM on

Edit: Sarah has just made four more lovely banners. I've added them into the rotation. So now there's 9! Just reload the page (click home) to get a new one each time!

Just made a couple of fairly major changes to this website. You won't notice anything except that it's faster now. The rotating banner up there will now be cached by your browser so you don't have to wait for the huge banner image to load each time a new page is loaded. This makes everyone much happier, including me because I don't have to send out as...
