Dad's Visit + Other Bits

Submitted by TiM on

What a busy few days it's been. Of course the big thing at the moment is the Earthquake in Christchurch. After everyone being amazed at having escaped without loss of life last time, this time was just so much worse. Everyone was out in the street, people were at work etc. It's just horrible to see the images and to keep hearing the news. I woke up this morning fairly happy then remembered what'd happened and felt a bit depressed. We don't know anyone that's affected, but that doesn't make it any less horrible.
There's more than enough coverage about it so I won't talk about it anymore. But wow, poor Christchurch. What a hit when they were already down.

So Dad few out yesterday morning, bright and early in the slightly rainy misty morning. It was great to see him even though it was a bit of a whirlwind...

Arrgh Updates

Submitted by TiM on

Arrgh it's been too long since I've posted. Waved goodbye to Dad this morning. Spent the weekend in Napier on a whirlwind visit. Tui spent the weekend at the Cattery and seems fine, it hasn't upset her at all. Sarah's good. I will write a proper update soon!

Down to Napier

Submitted by TiM on

Said goodbye to Dad yesterday as I left home, he was catching a plane down to Napier to spend a few days with Peter and Mary.

Annoyingly, I now seem to have caught his flu! I'm hoping that with all the running and stuff I've been doing that I'm fit and healthy and will fight it off quickly. I hate being sick.

The hot and humid Auckland weather continues. I eagerly await Winter.

Work's busy, I've got about 20 things on at the moment. They just moved our desktop PC's to a new network and that means that my email doesn't work properly and a bunch of other things. Tis annoying, but it's all part of the greater good.

Finally, I upgraded beaker.muppetz.com from Debian 5 to Debian 6. It all worked on-the-fly pretty much, though I had to put a couple of reboots in to sort out grub, which...

Weekend With Dad

Submitted by TiM on

Hello on a muggy Monday morning. Auckland has been really hot and sticky the last few days, we're both pretty over it and ready for Winter. It's so hot and you can't really keep the doors open past dusk because the mozzies just come streaming in. Horrible little pests they are.

Friday was Sarah's birthday, Happy Birthday to her. I made her some pancakes for breakfast but then had to take her to work. I bought her some sunglasses that haven't arrived (well, some arrived but were the wrong ones, doh!) and a massage/spa voucher. Tui the cat got her a box of chocolates.

She's a good cat like that.

Friday lunchtime Dad caught the bus into town then made it over to Newmarket, so I met him for lunch at the local $12 for lunch Italian place. We had a nice lunch sitting outside watching the world go by...

Dad's Here

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Birthday to my lovely wife Sarah! She's one year older today, be sure to email, ring, Facebook, Twitter or something else today to say Hi to her!

I made her some pancakes for breakfast this morning. Tasty, tasty pancakes.

Picked up Dad from the airport last night, he's staying with us for the weekend and then heading down to Napier for a few days.

And he's just rang me now to tell me he's in Newmarket, so I'm going down to meet him for lunch.

Grass Car!

Submitted by TiM on

Good morning, sitting on the couch here on Saturday morning as another muggy day unfolds. It's been really icky the last couple of days and I hate it. With the doors open you have to get bitten by the mozzies.

We were driving home from work the other day and I saw a car covered in grass going past the other way. It looked pretty cool, obviously advertising something. Sarah has been giving me grief ever since that the "complex" ads on Tv have no affect on me, but cover a car in grass and I'm hooked. I supposed there's a bit of truth to that!

As much as I bitched and moaned about getting Sky TV, I must say I am so happy to have Sky Sports because we can watch the cricket. I'd forgotten just how much I loved watching cricket until I can now again watch it...

10km Jog!

Submitted by TiM on

Pretty happy, went for a run this afternoon, no major route in my head but thought I knew where I'd go. Got back at the GPS Odometre told me 10.2km! Turns out that the GPS Odo can be %5 inaccurate, so I don't think it was quite 10k (the track log says 9.7km) but hey, I'm still pretty happy.

I want to try and do the half marathon this year and 10km's is half of a half marathon, almost! I felt like I could have easily kept going too, but small steps is the right way to build up.

Long Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

Long Weekend coming up! Woo! Like last weekend apparently it's going to be super shit weather as another large storm front moves through. Stick it fair up your bottom, storm front.

We had "Summer in Park" yesterday afternoon at work. We all went over the Domain and sat around in the sun. We had sausages, hamburgers, beer and volleyball. It was great. I stuff away about 3 sausages and 3 hamburgers. You can't be dieting all the time, right? Plus I helped put up the volleyball net.

As usual, Sales had provided half the solution (the Sales guy forgot the...

The Clothes Factory

Submitted by TiM on

We had a big massive clothes cleanup today. If there's one thing we're both terrible at hoarding, it's clothes. Today I threw out (well, donated to the clothing bin) about 20 different items of clothing, most of them T-Shirts. It's a horrible task, I love every single one of them. There's the "Timmy welcomes you to Turity Tandy Bay" T-Shirt, almost 15 years old now. Lots of travelling T-Shirts, TripleJ T-Shirts, you name it I've got it and have trouble parting with it.

So I chucked out a lot today. It makes me sad, but as Sarah said I only remember them when I see them. I took a photo of me wearing the Turity T-Shirt as well, before it went into the clothing bin.

It's been raining non-stop here for the last 12 hours, though it finally seems to have eased up a bit. Normally that wouldn't...
