Creature Update

Submitted by TiM on

After deciding I was going to find the little hedgehog in the garage I headed out there. The garage is pretty well made, it's not airtight but there's not really any gaps where a hedgehog could get in or out. So it had to be in the garage somewhere.

After looking behind every box, under every rug, I'd pretty much given up. The only place I thought was left was the lawn mower. So I looked around it and under it where the blades are. Something big moved when I tipped up the lawnmower though. Aha! Found the little bugger. What a sneaky hiding place, hiding in the grass catch while it was still attached to the lawn mower.

Sneaky little hedgehog. So he was put into a box, walked halfway down the street and dumped into the neighbours bushes. No more things-being-knocked-over-randomly for us.

In other news, Sarah make...

The Creature

Submitted by TiM on

The last few mornings I've been out to the garage, I've noticed things on the ground or in the side spaces of the garage have been knocked over. At first I thought maybe strong breezes but no, after the 2nd morning I knew we had a creature living in there. I tried to find it last night but to success. So I decided last night to put the laptop with the webcam out there and set it to film any motion.

I went out this morning and the creature had knocked over the axe, which had hit the lid of the laptop and knocked it closed! The creature was clever, but I wondered if the laptop had managed to snap a few photos of whatever it was out there before it'd shut down the filming.

Sure enough, there's about 15 photos of only half the culprit snuffling about. Can you...

Ultra Fast Broadband

Submitted by TiM on

Oh no! We didn't get the UFB bid! That's a lot of work (not work that I did) down the drain. We've just had a big serious meeting at work to discuss what this means for the business and those sorts of things. I don't care either way, but it'll have an impact on the business for sure.

We're Still Here

Submitted by TiM on

We're still here, we didn't get Rapturised. Not that I expected to, the old man was obviously crazy. There was even a poster up in New Zealand a few months ago, I took a photo of it thinking it was a joke. Turns out it wasn't!

We've had a good weekend, haven't really done that much, just stuff around the house. We cleaned all the windows, they were getting a bit of mould on them which isn't fun. We also went to Bunnings Warehouse and got a test pot of paint to try in the entryway. Good thing it was only a test pot because as soon as we put it up we realise we really didn't like the colour. Oh well, we've got some paint now in case we need it!

I also tried a few more of my homebrews last night, number two. They've turned out really, really...

Danny Bhoy

Submitted by TiM on

We went and saw Danny Bhoy last night at the Auckland Civic, part of the Auckland Comedy Festival. It almost didn't start, the show was supposed to begin at 8:30pm but due to some "technical difficulties" the doors to the theatre weren't opened until 9pm and it took another 15 minutes after that to start the show.

It was a good show though, I enjoyed it. Even though I was feeling pretty crappy (just a mild flu) and the fact it was about 35 degrees in the theatre. But even though the conditions weren't great (and like he said, it's hard to make people laugh on a Tuesday night) I still really enjoyed his show. He did a good job to get us all laughing too after we'd had to wait nearly an hour.

The Wedding

Submitted by TiM on

Saturday was the big wedding day for Holly and Adrian. Everyone at the Chatterton household was up early because there was a lot to do.

Us men went outside to wash and wax Peter's car to make it look lovely. The girls spent the time finalising bits and pieces and getting their make-up applied.

The whole place was buzzing as everyone went about their little jobs. The happy couple were lucky because the weather for the day was just perfect, not a cloud in the sky in fact!

Peter and Brendan dressed the cars up with ribbon, the photographer arrived and started taking photos.

Finally it was time to drive the bride to the church, which was my responsibility. It's a little bit scary driving a car you've only driven a few times before with a bridge who needs to get to her wedding in the back. I was...

Cape Kidnappers

Submitted by TiM on

Just got back from Cape Kidnappers Golf Course. I only joined Peter, Adrian and Brendan for the last 5 holes but it was still breathtaking how amazing the course is. The grass is perfect, the views are perfect and the weather was perfect. I got a few photos with the little camera but I know they absolutely won't do it justice.

Yesterday morning I bottled my 3rd batch of beer and started the fermentation of the 4th. The 2nd batch hasn't been that great, but I've done some more reading and I'm sure that I haven't given it long enough...

MasterChef Sandringham

Submitted by TiM on

Julian D was setup with the challenge to cook a meal as tasty and impressive as the ones I've seen on his Facebook page. They always sound very impressive, so the challenge was issued and accepted.

Well! Julian D did not dissapoint! He cooked up a very tasty Thai lemongrass chicken with rice. Not only was it super tasty, it was also beautifully presented with the rice in a little cone shape and some coriander and chilli for colour.

Sarah followed up with a tasty feijoa bread and custard pudding. My main contribution was a bottle of beer (still too young) and stacking the dishwasher.

It was masterchef at our place last night!

Surprise Chicken - Julian D visits!

Submitted by TiM on

A few weeks back Sarah mentioned to me to keep a weekend free, with no details as to why. I obviously thought lots about it because all I'd done was mark 5-5:30pm on Friday night as "Keep Free".

During the week I knew something was up because I was meant to take the car in to get the bumper repaired, but Sarah said maybe to wait because we'd need the car. When pressed for why, Sarah said it's because we might be getting chickens, maybe. A valid reason as far as I was concerned. Now before you all go "Whaaaa?", we've talked before about getting 2-3 chickens and keeping them in the backyard for our egg requirements and scrap food processing. So it wasn't such a strange cover story.

Maybe a little strange.

Friday night came around and we gave the house a tidy up, strange because as I recalled...

Tornado

Submitted by TiM on

We're both fine! The Tornado was over on the other side of the harbour, though apparently it slowly made its way out near where we live as well. Pretty scary to read about it and see the videos and pictures of it's trail of destruction. Not the sort of thing anyone was expecting.
