Fighting at the Bus Stop.

Submitted by TiM on

Last night I went and joined Sarah and some of her workmates at a pub in central Auckland for the local pub quiz. It was a great night, apart from the fact that I totally and utterly suck at pub quizzes.
It doesn't help, of course, that I'm not a Kiwi. So I don't know any of the local Kiwi questions that they ask and I don't know any of the International questions that they ask. And hell, I probably wouldn't know any of the Australian questions if they asked.
I did get one question right though, which is quicker to make an Ale or a Lager. So at least my homebrew knowledge has finally come in useful somewhere.

So today after work I was at the bus stop. Standing there, propped up against the wall, minding my own business. When this woman comes up to me and, Australian Rules...

Great Day

Submitted by TiM on

Had a great day yesterday. Got some really cool presents:

  • Bus Roll
  • Cooking Timer
  • Jesus Bandaids
  • How To Brew Book
  • Cow Teatowel
  • Box of beers and snacks

For dinner Sarah took me to a surprise restaurant that neither of us at been to before. It was quite a drive down the Western Motorway but it was certainly well worth it because we ended up at The Hallertau Brewbar and Restaurant. I had what has to have been one of the best T-Bone steaks I've ever had, it was that good it was like eating at the Jervois Steak House.

I didn't really go into detail about how awesome the Guinness cake is, well, it's super awesome. It's a lovely chocolate mud cake but it has a really nice hint of Guinness. Plus it has a nice white foamy icing on top, it's the real deal!

I had a really...

Finally! Rooted!

After another 3 hours in the garden I have, finally, got the front yard looking like it's not a bomb site anymore. Now it's just a big pile of flat dirt with no roots sticking out of it. I'm totally rooted myself now, it's hard slog! But worth it, the front yard looks a lot better now than it did 3 hours ago.

I'm having a nice cold Harman Homebrew Porter to celebrate. I've just given John our next-door neighbour one of my Ales to try. He's Scottish, I'm sure he'll love it. My homebrew is good, but still nowhere...

Week In Review

Submitted by TiM on

I really cut my face shaving today. I look like a monster. Ugh. Stupid razor. It was always my biggest fear on my wedding day that I'd cut myself. Anyway, I shouldn't complain, no one listens.

Mum send me Nan Milburn's funeral bits and pieces during the week. The service looks like it was lovely and a fitting tribute to Nan's life. I scanned the DVD and put it on Youtube if anyone would like to see it.

I've been putting up rouge posters in the break room at work. Ever since we moved back onto Level 3 at 101 the place has been quite sterile and boring. There are the usual company "Yaaa Team!" posters up and let's face it, they're boring as f**k. So I've been putting up things like this, and this. I think most people suspect it's me. Certainly a few people have...

Hop Card

Submitted by TiM on

I finally got a replacement Hop card last night. They didn't make it very easy. First of all it was my fault it broke, I must have sat on it funny or something. The very hop edge of it was broken and it wouldn't tag on or off anymore. Annoying. I rang up and asked how to get it replaced, they said "Go down to Britomart and they'll be able to transfer the balance". So I left work early a few days ago and went to Britomart. But they could't help me! All they could do was take my email...

Backwards Ball

We went to see the Rugby on Saturday night with one of Sarah's workmates and his girlfriend. The tickets were pretty cheap because they wanted to get a large crowd in to test Eden Park out, making sure people could get in and out, that the buses and trains worked properly. All that sort of stuff. We were guinea pigs basically.

It was all very well organised though. We arrived a little bit late, it took us about 20 minutes to get to Eden Park from home but then we had to walk to the opposite end of the ground to get in our allocated gate. Bugger! We started to panic a little bit because we thought we'd miss the teams coming onto the ground. But we got to our seats just in time, we'd only been sitting for a few minutes before everyone came out onto the ground. I...

Harman's Hobo
The high temp has made it unhappy. You probably wouldn't drink it unless you homeless, thus the name.

Quite fizzy already, but still used two sugar pills in each bottle. Sarah helped bottle, was a lot quicker. Quite a lot of oxygen got into the beer, mostly because the hose wasn't the right one! Have to get a proper bottle setup for the secondary

New Server

Submitted by TiM on

Here we are on the new nice server. It's not even a real server, it's a virtual server. Sad thing is, it's about 3 times faster than my old server which wasn't even virtual. Anyway it doesn't matter, upshot is that Tim's Diary has a new home once again since our nice change of policy at work. Fun fun.

At least migration was fairly painless!

Explosions

Submitted by TiM on

Couple of explosions yesterday. First the one at work, log in and have a read.
Second while Sarah was cooking a lovely Pork Belly last night the Pyrex dish just exploded. She'd taken it out of the oven, put it on top of the oven when it just went "BOOM!" and fell to pieces. Which was annoying because I had to pick up little iddy pieces of Pyrex dish from around the kitchen.
Thankfully the Pork Belly survived just fine though and went on to be super tasty.

Scary though!
