Insulation!

Submitted by TiM on

Woohoo! Waited at home all day today for the insulation people. The finally showed up right at 5pm, better late than never.

Look at our boring roof space before. Now look at our sexy coxy green roof space after.

Happy warm days are here!

Tui is so happy that she fell asleep hugging this tray I'd put on the ground. Then she put jammed her face in between the handle. I have no idea how her brain works.

Tim!

I can see the light!

Another weekend of mostly shit weather. Sunday was terrible, but it didn't really matter too much as Sarah is still feeling quite unwell and has now developed a bad cough. Off to the Dr for her today.

Saturday we dropped off some tickets to the rugby to one of Sarah's workmate's parent's apartment. They were driving down to Hamilton and were able to give tickets we had to the rugby to Kelly. So that was very kind of them. Then we found a new place to have breakfast in Mt Eden. I found a sandwich that might, almost, maybe, topple the toulouse sausage at the French Market. It's the little things that are exciting.
After breakfast we headed off to buy some graph paper and pencils to do some design work for the garden. It's the last night of our garden course tonight.

Then we ducked into Lighting Direct for...

AFL Grand Final 2011

Put some homebrews in the fridge Friday night (my Ale has turned out really well, I'm very happy with it. And as long as you super chill the Wheat Beer, you can drink it)
Saturday afternoon, I moved the couch around to the optimal TV viewing position. I ensured the stereo was correctly wired up to the TV for the optimal sound hearing position. I waited until 4:30pm.

Then I was ready. Ready for the greatest AFL Match I have seen in a very long time. What a fantastic, utterly fantastic match it was. At half time I was so nervous that we were going to go down, but we'd done well to come back from being 2 (or was it 3?) goal down to only being 3 points.

After half time the action only got better and louder. There was a lot more yelling at the TV. At three...

Sick Wife

Submitted by TiM on

Poor Sarah has been home sick the last two days. Obviously a bit bored being in bed all day, she made me this beer label. Is this awesome or what?

Hopefully she gets better in the next few days.

We had Jess come and stay with us on Monday night. Jess is one of the many lovely people we met on our African truck trip, it was really nice to see her again brief though it was.

Looking forward to the Geelong Cats this weekend!

Friday night we went down to the Cock 'N' Bull to say goodbye to Ben B, a good project manager who has moved on to ChristChurch. I'll miss working with Ben, he has a good attitude (well, in my opinion, others seem to disagree) and got stuff done. Alas, all the good people always leave. We had a good time at the pub anyway, Ben ordered a couple of "Barmaids" which are those large things they put on your table and you just pour the beer yourself.

Saturday I got up and praise the lordie, it was sunny. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. The deck was dry. It was time to do the other half of the deck!

Just as I went to start a few clouds came overhead looking scary, but Sarah checked the weather and it said it wasn't going to rain, so we trusted it...

World Famous (In China)

Submitted by TiM on

In exciting news, we are now World Famous (In China). The China branch of Sarah's work wanted to do a magazine article on people who got married in Napier. Or something, I'm not sure of the exact back story. But anyway, it turns out that we were perfect candidates for their story.

So those are the two scanned pages from their magazine. Apparently it says we both grew up in Napier. But still, I expect Chinese people to be breaking our door down any day.

Landscape Design

Went to the Contemporary Garden Design course last night with Sarah. I was the only man there in a class of about 10 people, but Sarah was there to hold my hand when it got scary. But it never got scary, it was actually quite interesting and has already given me at least a bit of an idea about how we should approach the garden.
We just discussed what makes gardens formal vs informal, how best to plant some plants so they don't snuff it, what makes a garden interesting and inviting vs boring as all hell. We've got two...

Roofing It Up, Flags and Ovens.

Been a good weekend, we've got a fair bit done around the house. Nothing really major, just lots of little things. Sarah finished painting the bath, it is now a nice shade of Yellow with White legs, much nicer than the grubby Green it used to be. If only everything else in that bathroom looked at nice as the bath does now.

I got up in the roof on Saturday and removed a couple of buckets worth of dead nails, dust, straw and old electrical cables. Plus a number of bits of wood and other bits like that. It's looking pretty good up there now, this is in anticipation of the insulation people coming sometime in the next couple of weeks to insulate us up so we're nice and toasty warm.

The old oven was taken outside on Saturday and given a big dose of Oven Cleaner. A huge dose...

Could you please tell me, are you making these full time now? I noticed them in our vending machine at work just now. (I'm typing this with one hand while disgustingly stuffing my face with chips using the other.)

Does this mean I no longer have to raid shops now, looking for them?

Can I stop buying Sour Cream and Chives, sprinkling Kaitaia Fire on top, and then breaking down in tears because they just...

Gardening Design for Dummies

Submitted by TiM on

My lovely wife and I have signed up for a Contemporary Garden Design course, starting next Monday. Should be good fun, I have as much design ability as a dead moose but Sarah is fantastic at these sorts of things. She is always creating interesting things, I'm sure my brain could probably fart a few out if it had too.

This weekend's tasks include: Getting up in the roof and removing as much of the crap as I can so that when we get the insulation people to come, they can lay down a clean good install. There's all sorts of shit up there at the moment which is quite annoying. I'm not looking forward to crawling around up there to get rid of it either, but this is all part of the fun of being a home owner!

It's rained all week, which is annoying because I haven't been...
