Molly gets a tuneup

Submitted by TiM on

I had a meeting yesterday at the "New" Telecom building in town, which luckily is almost right next door to Sarah's work. So after my meeting I headed up to meet my lovely wife and we had lunch at Patis, the French Cafe just over the road from her work. Very tasty!

I took Molly into Scooter eMotion on Wednesday to get her a full service. She was starting to be a bit funny and quite laggy on take off. You'd give her some throttle and instead of zooming away she'd go "Brrrrrrrr *stall*" which isn't very useful when you're...

Sawing Barrels

Submitted by TiM on

Today I sawed a plastic 44 gallon drum in half. We wanted to fill the garden box we bought up with soil, but we didn't want to fill the whole thing. So a plastic drum sawn in half and placed side-by-side is kinda perfect. Must say it was a bit of mission to saw the thing in half, but did it!

We also finished planting the garden, Sarah arranged everything so it looks really nice and we dug it in. Hopefully everything will take properly.

Shaving A Door

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Easter! Hope everyone had a great Easter, we certainly did. We've had a lovely couple of days in fact, the weather in Auckland has been perfect. Friday we had a pretty lazy day really, didn't do much at all except hang out and enjoy the weather. I moved a bunch of the rocks I'd dug up the weekend before so our house look "tidy" on the outside, next door were having an open home on Saturday so I wanted to make sure our place looked OK too.

Saturday we were a bit more active, we went out for breakfast, then headed to the homebrew shop to get the magic to make another Lager, seeing as my last one turned out really good.

Then we headed out to Rogers plant barn again, Roger was doing a roaring trade. People everywhere, wheelbarrows all over the show. We got a bunch more...

Gardening Work

Submitted by TiM on

Oh boy I'm tired today! All the rock pulling on the weekend. John and I dug out some totally huge rocks on the weekend, massive ones. Then yesterday Sarah and I spread one cubic metre of soil all over the area, then while Sarah was planting the plants I went back to the Garden Supplies place and got a cubic metre of mulch.
The garden area now looks really good next to the neighbours car port, no longer is just a sad collection of twigs and concrete. The only problem is that we have a driveway full of huge boulders we have to remove. But that's a task for later this week, or someone else even.

Sarah drove Molly to work today. I'm not 100% sure Sarah's going with calling the new Scooter Molly but I'm running with it until told otherwise. She was a bit tentative I think, but...

Molly Arrives

Submitted by TiM on

We picked up Molly today. Molly is a new Vespa LX 50. I didn't think Sarah was keen to ride a scooter again, but yesterday she found this scooter online. And today she really wanted to look at it, so we did. Next thing we were buying it! It's just like the old scooter but newer, goes a bit better and is more modern. We went and bought ourselves new helmets (one each) too.

The afternoon was spent digging in the garden. Next door is about to sell their house so the crappy wire fence between us and them got ripped down (by mutual agreement, they're fantastic neighbours) and we went out to Rogers nursery today to buy 24 buxus plants. Digging out the rocks was a nightmare though, so many of them. Thankfully John came over and helped, he had a lot of good tools that I don't have...

TOGAF Training

Submitted by TiM on

Just finished 4 days of TOGAF training. Have to say, it was hard going. Architecture process stuff, not even the sort of things that I know/understand. I think I did OK though, we'll have a test in a week or so which if I pass means I can stick "TOGAF certified" on my CV. Which'll be a good thing.

Tui caught a mouse the other day. I came out in the morning and there was a bit of string sticking out of her mouth. But it wasn't string, it was a mouse tail. At least she ate most of the...

Rugby, 40ths, Kelly and the Pressure Cooker!

Submitted by TiM on

I'm on training for a lot of this week, I'm learning an architectural framework. No, I'm not sure exactly what that means either, but I hope it'll be interesting/useful.

Friday night Holly and Adrian came up to Auckland, they were heading off to Fiji on Saturday. They arrived, we said hello and rushed off to the Rugby at Eden Park. It was the Auckland dudes against the Wellington dudes, we were going for the Wellington dudes. It was a really close match, with Auckland leading the whole time until the last 30 seconds when Wellington scored a try. They had to convert the try to win and, with all the pressure in the world on them, they managed to convert the try. Wellington won! There were a lot of pissed off Auckland Blues fans leaving the stadium!

Saturday we went out for breakfast in Kingsland and then had a bit...

Round The Bays 2012 & New Carpet

Submitted by TiM on

I did Round The Bays today. I'd hoped to try and beat 50 minutes but there's so many other people that it soon became apparent that goal wasn't going to work for me. Here's the map of my run, I snuck in under an hour with 51 seconds to spare!
Once I'd finished the run I went to the Vector tent and had a couple of meat burgers, a ginger beer and a few other treats. So basically undid all the good I'd done. Never mind though, because there's no easy way to get out of there, I had to walk back along the same way to get back where I'd started so I could catch the train. Fun fun!

Friday I stayed to work from home because the Carpet Man was coming to lay our new carpet. He arrived with his apprentice and the proceeded to spend...

Last Photo

Here's the photo of Sarah with the scooter. Sarah's holding the passport photo of me that I stuck on the scooter one day ages ago that says "Put On Jacket!" and "Love!". Sarah moved the photo under the seat and that's where it lived, it seemed to have worked because she had her jacket on that day.

Test Drive

Hello Monday. It's a crappy morning, it rained all night, it was hot and muggy this morning as I rushed around getting ready and just as I was walking out the door Tui the damn cat brought in a bird she'd caught that was still a tiny bit alive. Quite horrible, poor birdie. I apologised to it a lot and put it in the bin.

Sarah's doing quite well now. Her legs are healing up nicely though still bandaged. Her nasty bruises have gone, at least visibly. Her ribs are still very sore and tender though. She's healing slowly though.

Saturday morning we went to Espresso Workshop for breakfast. The coffee isn't as good on the weekends though, not sure why. Maybe I'm just more awake and pickier. It was still a nice breakfast though. Then we headed off to Brewers Coop to purchase some malts, yeasts and sugars before...
