Day Off

Submitted by TiM on

Took a random day off yesterday, because we could you know? Got up late, when and had breakfast in Kingland. Breakfast was dissapointing because who puts beansprouts on a burger? Crazy people, that's who. You could of course also argue that hamburger for breakfast isn't the finest idea, so it's a bit of a stalemate there I guess.

I also did some plastering in the kitchen. It's my first ever attempt at plastering but I think I did a pretty good job, it's fairly smooth and even and should be easy to sand back. I won't say too much amazing about it yet though, in case it turns out to be a shithouse.

I also bottled some beers I've had brewing. I'd thrown in HEAPS of hops into the fermenter, not in a hop bag. So it's made both brews go very hazy with lots of little hop particles floating...

TIN

Submitted by TiM on

We lost the quiz last night, coming second. It came down to a Tie Breaker question which we got right, but we had to also write the date it was released and he was taking "the closest" which the other team got.

What's amazing is that we only dropped one question all night. ONE Question. That said, the other team only dropped one question as well.

We even had the right answer for the one we missed, that answer was Tin. Di was sure that it was right, but both Ben and I thought it was an alloy and not the right answer. When "Tin" was read out, there was much unhappiness. And sadness. And some staring.

So we came second. Which of course doesn't matter at all really, it was heaps of fun and a great night as always. Well done "Annies Boobs" who won.

Fucking Tin.

Weekend with Mum and Bill

Submitted by TiM on

The fallout from the horrible weather continued last week. Sarah didn't make it home on Thursday night as she was supposed to because heaps of flights were cancelled. It also seemed that she wasn't going to make it home on Friday as well, but in the end she managed to get a flight to Hamilton and then they drove a car from there back to Auckland. So she arrived home very tired on Friday night, poor girl.

We had a really nice weekend, Friday night after Mum and Bill arrived back from their Raglan Beach experience, we went to Zap2 for dinner for the authentic Thai experience. As is the norm with Zap2 they totally buggered up Sarah's meal, it was mega spicy while mine was weak as always. We returned Sarah's and they remade it so that it wasn't burn your face off spicy. I didn't bother getting mine...

Big Storm / Mum and Bill Visit

Submitted by TiM on

Wow a huge storm in Auckland today. 3 people killed, which is amazing in itself and utterly horrible. Hard to believe this sort of thing happening so close to home. Our house is fine, I'm fine and Sarah's in Wellington at the moment. Which brings me to the other problem, Sarah's in Wellington at the moment and because of the huge storms her flight home tonight has been cancelled. It's just me and Tui.

Mum and Bill arrived yesterday afternoon for a few days. Great to see them both, Mum cooked us a lovely curried Chicken for dinner which was very tasty. We sat around chatting for a while before all retiring off to bed. Today they headed down to Raglan for the night, I've just been texting them and they sound like they're enjoying it despite the terrible weather.

So yes. Home alone. Bored already. Oh well!

Weekend In Napier - Joseph's Christening

Submitted by TiM on

This weekend just gone we spent in lovely sunny Napier, visiting Joseph for his Christening. Friday night I managed to remember to get Tui into the cattery. Good thing too, no way to get the cat to a cattery at 6am in the morning when we we were leaving for the Airport.

Here's a few photos from the weekend.

We arrived in Napier and everyone was there to pick us up. We went to Peter's famous cafe, Cafe Orbitz where you can get a bacon and potato sandwich for $5.50. That's a bargain, considering how tasty they are! Then we went back and had a bit of a snooze on the couch for a while, before heading out to see progress on Holly and Adrian's new house in Clive. It's coming along well, Adrian is building it. You can see a few photos.

On the way back we stopped...

Quiz Muppets

Oh no! We came equal 3rd at the quiz last night! We're loosing our mojo! We still did pretty good, but a totally new team stole our thunder! I'm kinda glad someone else won though, it means it's more fun and people will keep coming back. We used all the previous vouchers we'd won on dinner and drinks, so the whole night cost us $2.50 each. Good stuff!

Making More Beer!

Whew! What a week last week was. And it's Tuesday of this week already, I've gotten very slack at updating the ol' diary again. Sorry diary, I know you miss me.

Not too much exciting happened last week. I didn't do the quiz because I had a really bad headache that day, no idea what caused it but both Tuesday and Wednesday my head felt like it was stuffed with cotton wool. It's fine again now though, so must just have been something viral.
On Thursday I went to the company nurse and she gave me a checkup of my vital signs. Apart from being "overweight" on the BMI scale I'm doing pretty well really, very low cholesterol. According to the chart I'm unlikely to keel over from a heart attack at any point at least in the near future.

Saturday we zoomed off up to Prague for some breakfast...

Work Scavenger Hunt

Submitted by TiM on

It was the work Scavenger Hunt yesterday. I'm part of the "THERE WILL BE FUN! Team" so rather than participate in the hunt we've actually been organising it for the last couple of months.

Basically everyone got given their first clue, plus a team mascot which was supposed to be bulky and hard to carry around. One team got an old router, the next a 18 pack of toilet paper, a huge fern leaf was one. They got to their first destination and had to send back a photo to prove they'd made it, then we'd send them to their second. I was quite worried people wouldn't enjoy it, but everyone turned up at the final location, Jack Tar pub on the waterfront with a big smile on their face and said they'd really enjoyed it. So that was nice, the whole TWBFT put a bit of effort in and...
