In Wellington!

Submitted by TiM on

Far out what a mentally busy week it's been! I'm working for Prophecy Networks now and boy oh boy what a crazy week it's been. I flew down Monday at lunchtime and it's just been pretty much non-stop since then. We're working on some really interesting stuff, so I'm not complaining at all. It's just that I haven't really had much of a chance to sit still. It's very exciting though, it's good to be back doing hands on configuration work.

My last week at Vector was good though, had a nice time there. Friday was very much a put-my-feet up day, in fact we were off to the pub at 2pm! I wasn't going to go that early but a Vendor turned up and said "Let's go" so off we went. Had a great afternoon up at Galbraiths, lots of people came to say goodbye to me. And lots...

Drupal 7

Submitted by TiM on

I upgraded the site to Drupal 7 today. You'll notice everything looks really different. I didn't want to have to upgrade, but the version of software I was using was going out of date, so it was time to press the big upgrade button. Over the next couple of weeks I'll work towards getting it looking as much like it used to as possible...

Seeing Stars

Submitted by TiM on

We went to the Stardome Observatory last night to see the stars. It was only $10 each and it was frikking awesome! You get a tour of the night sky (computer projected) while lying back on comfy chairs in the dome, then a little presentation on Exoplanets. Then we went outside and they had 3 Telescopes setup, we saw a comet (it just looked like a blob of light, but still, it was a comet!) and some planets! Very cool, a great night out.

Before that, we went to our favourite Thai place for dinner, Zap2. I ordered something different this time around and it was coated, I mean coated and drowning in chillies. It was so damn hot. I really enjoyed it, but boy oh boy I was also sweating.

Second to last day of work today. We're going for curry in lunch, apparently there's about 35...

Quiz Masters Again!

Submitted by TiM on

We won the quiz again last night, in a nail biter! It was the end of the quiz as we were tied with the teachers. So the quiz master gave us a question where we had to guess how long (in miles) a 1 pound ball of spider yard would stretch out to. We guess 80,000 and the Teachers guessed 250,000. The answer was 40,000 so we won! Very close.

Weekend just gone I spent a lot of time outside stripping and painting. I'm almost done on the front bedroom window which is quite large. I had to spent a lot of time up a ladder, which I really don't like, but after a while I got used to it. To start with I was very nervous and by the end I was marching up and down without fear.

Monday night Peter was up from Napier, so we had a...

Happy Third Anniversary!

Submitted by TiM on

It's our third wedding anniversary today. It's traditionally leather for a gift, so Sarah got me a lovely new wallet and I got her a little leather jewellery box. She totally out-presented me again. Leather is hard! I look forward to next year which is flowers. Hard to bugger that up!

We're going out for dinner tonight, looking forward to that.

I sold my Galaxy S3 to a workmate on Friday, then rushed out and bought myself a Note II instead. It's the LTE model so it has super fast internet, which I totally don't need. And it's also huge. I used to think my old P910i was a big phone, or my S3. But no, the Note II is a beast the size of Satan himself. I love it.

Friday night we got home and packed up our clothes etc. We put a huge amount of food in the...

New Couches

Submitted by TiM on

Our new couches arrived yesterday. Finally! We've waited 4-5 weeks for them, but they're here! They're very comfortable, finally we have a couch long enough than you can lie right out on comfortably. Happy with that.

We went out for dinner on Tuesday night with Craig and Fiona, we haven't seen them in a while. Good to catch up with them, see how they're doing etc. Dinner was nice too, we went to Vervace, my meal was beautiful but man did I reek of garlic the next day. It was overpowering.

Last night I went and caught up with my old flatmate John as well as Beatty who happened to be in town. Good to catchup, John was excited because Vodafone is launching their 4G LTE network today. Now I need to get myself a LTE capable phone!

Wine, Stripping, Goat Island

Submitted by TiM on

Friday night Sarah and I met up with Phillip, he's Mary's cousin. They haven't seen each other in many years, before Mary and Peter moved to New Zealand in fact. He was in Auckland for a couple of days so Sarah and I went to meet him and went down to the Viaduct for dinner with him. We had a couple of beers in SnapDragon before deciding that we'd just eat there for dinner, that seemed the easy thing to do.

We had a really nice meal, SnapDragon is all about sharing platters. We had a bunch of little starters and then a Pork Belly main. Far out it was massive, two huge slaps of Pork Belly, very tender but with a very tough crunchy skin. I did love it so. Phillip and I shared a bottle of wine too. Then we decided that yes, we would order the huge...

Week That Was - Chris and Simone

Submitted by TiM on

Was lovely to have Chris and Simone with us for a few days. Monday night we drove out to Mission Bay and got Fish and Chips from the fishpot cafe, then went and sat on the grass and ate them. Watched all the huge seagulls try and eat our food too. Then we went and got icecreams from Movenpick and discussed whether the boat they were going one really had huge stabilizers that stopped it from rocking around. Turns out it does (I was wrong)

Then we took a drive up Mt Eden to see Auckland city at night. Turns out on a clear night like it was it looks rather awesome, we could see lots of lights in every direction.

Tuesday night we just stayed in, I tried to cook Jamie's 15 minute beef strog but it didn't quite turn out right. The yoghurt split and I dunno what...

Chris and Simone Arrive

Submitted by TiM on

I went out to the Airport Saturday afternoon and picked up Chris and Simone who'd just flown in. Great to see them again, it's been ages since I saw them last. Saturday night we just hung out and chatted, Sarah made some tasty pizzas for dinner.

Yesterday the three of us when for a drive over to Takapuna. I was going to take them to Devonport but I remembered just in time that the Devonport Food and Wine festival was on. So instead I drove us to Takapuna. Where there was a damn Triathalon on! We went into Coffee Club and had something to eat, before driving over to Browns Bay for a while to do a bit of looking around and some shopping.

We came back home and sat out in the sun for the afternoon, I washed the car and then we just sat around chatting. Sarah once...

It's all happening! New job, Sarah's Birthday, Napier

Submitted by TiM on

Phew! What a busy week it's been. Sarah's Birthday, a new job organised, down in Napier, back in Auckland, Dad's here. You name it!

First of all our little holiday down in Napier.
We arrived on Wednesday after driving down, as I said in my last post. I forgot to mention that we went to the Prawn Farm and caught 2 Prawns each, not a great haul but not too bad for only an hour fishing either. Those poor little prawns, I feel bad that I catch them but it's also SO much fun to catch them. And if we didn't catch them well then someone else will, no matter what happens, they're going to get eaten at the end of the day.

Down in Napier we had a great time, Thursday we didn't do a real lot, Mary was looking after Joseph for the day so we hung out...
