More House Work

Update: We just got the photos!
Before Photos (When it was for sale when we bought it)
After Photos

It was another mental weekend of do stuff around the house. On Saturday I got up and went and hired a trailer. Drove to the Avondale Landscape Supplies place again and got a cubic metre of black bark, which I then proceeded to spread over the rest of the garden where it was needed. Then I took all the grotty green waste I've been shoving behind the shed and emptied that out, thankfully Greenwaste is really cheap to dump. I had a massive trailer load and it cost about $30 I think. Just before leaving I got a 1/4 cube of Black bark, just to finish off the bits that hadn't quite been finished off. By the time 5pm rolled around I was pretty poked, so I sat down and had...

Getting ready to sell!

Submitted by TiM on

Another busy weekend, at least it was a long weekend thanks to it being the queen's birthday. Thanks Queenie. We got a lot of stuff done, it was really productive. We

Finished the outside window painting
Waterblasted the area where the herb garden is
Put down nice black bark on much of the front garden.
Cleaned up the garage
Bought a new light for the man pooper
Planted a couple of mini gardens
Painted the side fence black to hide all the rust spots
Painted the top of the house where lots of paint was flaking off.

I'm sure that we probably did a few other bits and pieces as well but those were definitely the main things we achieved. We were both totally knackered and covered in paint by the time Monday night rolled around.

This week Dobby the painter has been finishing off the inside bits of painting...

Did It!

After some terrible hacking around with PHP, which pretty much I fully don't really understand at all, I managed to butcher this theme enough so we have rotating banners again! And not the stupid ones that cycled over and over, but just one single image, chosen at random, on page load. Happy!

Stripped Back

As you can see I've changed up Tim's Diary a bit! Gone is the old theme, at least for a while. It's still around, but I thought a change might be nice, it's been the same theme for nearly 5 years and with the upgrade to Drupal 7, it never looked quite right again.

Been a good week so far, Dobby has been over and painted a lot of the bits I'm too terrible at painting to do. The house is starting to look much better, though we still need to do a few more things. But you know what, it's a long weekend this weekend! That crept up on us, I had no idea until Sarah mentioned it to me this afternoon.

I guess that's one of the issues when you're working from home all the time, you miss the usual office banter and chit chat that you'd get...

Inorganic

Submitted by TiM on

We're lucky! It's inorganic collection weekend this weekend, that's when you get to chuck out all that crap you've had in the back cupboard, or the attic, or gathering mould under the bed, on the side of the road and the council will come and take it away! We chucked out so much stuff today! Most of it's gone already, taken by either the neighbours over the road or the various other "curb crawlers" as Peter Chats calls them. Everyone driving past in their bongo vans, grabbing bits and pieces. Sometimes you'd put something down, walk down the drive to...

3 Days in Queenstown

Submitted by TiM on

We had a great weekend in Queenstown. I arrived in Thursday afternoon, picked up the hire car from Apex and headed out to Wanaka to pickup Sarah. She'd been there in at a with function for the last two days but it was over now and time to relax and enjoy Queenstown.

The drive out to Wanaka was amazing, I wish I'd had a bit more time to stop and take some photos, it's really that amazing. I can see why people go on and on about it, the views are spectacular and just everywhere. It reminded me a little bit of Hobart, but just with 20 times more mountains. They're everywhere you look, some covered with snow, some not.

The drive was pretty uneventful, nice and easy going, the hire car wasn't too shabby and had a bit of pickup in the windy roads. I got to Wanaka about...

The Big Cutover

So the huge big work thing we've all been working on for the last couple of months went really well! Better than we'd hoped I think, there were a few very small teething issues as it was brought online, but once those were quickly identified and fixed, it all worked just fine! None of the customers noticed, which is the main thing because there' a shedload of customers who could've!

Sarah's down in Wanaka for the next couple of days, I'm going to go down and join her in Queenstown on Thursday. Looking forward to it! A nice couple of days away to relax etc. The hotel has a balcony spa, so that'll be nice!

Catching up

Submitted by TiM on

As usual I've gotten really bad at keeping the diary up to date. We've had a productive weekend, done a lot more around getting the house ready for sale. Yesterday Sarah packed up more boxes, I also helped and did some reshuffling out the back in the garage. We're getting there, I'm just annoyed that of course it rained all weekend which has meant no painting got done. Hopefully I'll get a bit of a chance this week to do some, though realistically I don't think that I will.

Thursday was a fun day, I had to head down to Hamilton for another training course, not one that I was learning from but rather one that I had to give. It went fine though, just like the last time times. The guys I were training are all fairly technical and none of them had any really hard questions. I only...

Back from Wellington

Submitted by TiM on

Bit of an emergency work thing came up late Wednesday afternoon, so I was dragging myself out of bed at 4:30am on Thursday to catch the 6am down to Wellington. I spent all of yesterday in the Telecom NIL, debugging MX960's and MS-DPC cards. When I finally got into my hotel room at 11pm I realised I'd been debugging a Firewall (along with help from my workmates and Juniper) for about 15 hours straight! Well we did have a lunch break in there somewhere.

Arrived home this afternoon on the 1pm flight. Looking forward to having a relaxing weekend. Hahaha no, not really. Painting painting paining time!
