BBQ in the Sun / Interview with Bethany Part 2

Submitted by TiM on

We had a housewarming yesterday! I got up at 9am (what a sleep in!) and was really dissapointed to see it all grey and cloudy outside. By the time we'd gotten the house tidy, the BBQ dusted off and the gas bottled filled it, it was a beautiful day.

We had over:

Peter and Mary
Holly, Adrian and Joseph
Jen and Cheese
Chris and Barbs
Daryl and Jody

We got the gas BBQ going no worries, the wood one took a bit of stuffing around but Chris and Adrian helped that going by picking the dead bits off the cabbage trees and using those as a fire starter. Soon enough it was going nicely, so we cooked the hamburgers on the flame grill! They turned out very tasty.

It was a nice relaxing day really, we all sat outside under the walnut tree. Beth played for a while on her...

Phew!

There's never enough time to sit down and write a diary entry when you have a small child and an acre of land! What were we thinking? I'm just joking, I love it. Totally and utterly love it. I never realised how much I didn't like Auckland until we moved here. It's so much calmer, peaceful, easy going and friendly. I love our house, every night this week something on our plate has come from our new garden. We can't really take too much credit for that I guess, the previous owners planted all the plants. But still, I've been out there tending to the garden, weeding it and looking after it. So I feel a bit of pride of eating from the garden is due to us!

Beth's doing great! She's still hard to get to sleep and hungry ALL THE TIME. Like all the time, Sarah must have...

Our New Home

Submitted by TiM on

Far out what a busy few days it's been. We're all moved into our new home, thanks to the help of Adrian, Peter, Holly and Mary. Thursday was an exciting day, I got the call about 9:30 in the morning that settlement had occurred that we could now pick up the keys. So I zipped over and picked them up, well I say them, there was only one key! A bit odd I thought. As much as I wanted to head over there straight away I couldn't do that, I had to work! But eventually the time came around and I headed home. But I had to collect the big horse float we were going to use, so I headed back into town to pick that up. They laughed at me at the hire place as I rocked up in the Tiida to pick up the massive float, they said...

Just Visiting!

Submitted by TiM on

We went to Jerovis Road last night to see the current owners, Ian and Wendy, so they could show us all the various bits and pieces around the property. It was there suggestion on the day we bought it and I thought it was a great idea, so last night we went over. The bigger bit of news was that we left Beth behind! She was fast asleep, so we left her with Mary (Thanks so much Mary!!)

Once we got there we got a bit worried because Ian was talking and he said "...where the Greenhouse used to be" and we were both thinking "What? I though the greenhouse was part of the property!". But there must have been an old greenhouse because as we walked around the greenhouse was still standing.

I'm even more excited about the house than I already was. There's power everywhere. Even the...

Vaccinations (The Sad Baby Story)

Submitted by TiM on

We took Bethany up to the Doctor's yesterday afternoon for her 6 week vaccinations. She screamed as she was given them, which was pretty upsetting! The nurse had told us she probably would, but it was still pretty upsetting seeing your happy-2-seconds-ago baby screaming at the top of her lungs. Thankfully it only lasts a few minutes and then a bit of rocking a feed from Mum and she was much happier.

That didn't last though, about 7pm last night be become very unsettled (again as we'd been warned she might be). She'd just scream and scream. We could get her to sleep by holding her, but attempts to move her or put her in her bassinet resulted in major upsetness again. Sarah rung Plunket who just said "She's a baby", then we hit on the idea of ringing Claire our midwife. Well actually she wasn't our midwife anymore, but...

Uncle Shane Visits!

Submitted by TiM on

There was a knock at the door on Tuesday night. I was changing Bethany so I didn't hear much of it, until Sarah came into the room and said "You'll never guess who's here!". She's right, I never would have guess it was Uncle Shane and Pat dropping in for a visit! A most unexpect surprise, they've been touring around the South Island for the last two weeks and had just driven up from Wellington. They only spent the night in Napier, so we didn't have a long time to see them, but it was great to catch up! We chatted about raising chickens, their Lovebirds and how all the cousins are doing. It was really lovely to see them!

Sarah went to her coffee group yesterday. All the other mums were saying about how their babies sleep in 5+ hour stints. It made her realise that Bethany is a...

Dad and Jeremy Leave / Beth's 6 Weeks old and nearly 5kg!

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday morning I got up and picked up Dad to take him out to the airport. We sat around at the airport for a while and had a coffee and a last minute chat, then I waved him goodbye as he boarded his place. It was great to see him and for him to get to see Beth. I also managed to get Skype installed on his iPad, so now he doesn't have to boot up his creaking 10 year old computer to talk. I'm amazed that computer still works really, who said that Dell isn't any good?
After that I went and swapped the Tiida for a Courtesy Car, ages ago up in Auckland a guy scraped the bumper trying to sneak past, finally after moving city it's getting repaired.

Beth went to the Pediatrician yesterday afternoon, for the results of her Kidney scans etc. We piled her into...

Dad and Jeremy Visit

Submitted by TiM on

Tuesday night I went to pick Dad up from the Airport. I bought him back to Peter and Mary's to meet Beth before dropping him off at his Motel for the evening.
Then I had to zip into the supermarket to get Sarah some cough medicine because she wasn't feel very well at all.

Wednesday was a bit of a rough day really. Sarah'd had a bad nights sleep and Beth had woken up at 4:30am and pretty much refused to go to sleep after that. She did have a couple of hour long snoozes after that, but would always wake up and be unhappy again. I stayed home for the morning to try and help, then headed into work for the afternoon. At 4pm I drove out to the Airport to meet Jeremy but he was already in his hire car and on the road before I got there...
