First Tooth

Submitted by TiM on

Beth's first tooth is starting to come through. It's not there yet, it's coming and going, but you can see it sometimes and you can certainly feel it if you're silly enough to let her try and suck your fingers.
She's also decided that she loves Peaches. She has a little mesh ring that Sarah puts the Peaches in and she goes to town on them. SuckSuckSuckSuck until there's nothing left but pulp.
She's been sleeping pretty well the last couple of nights too, of course I've probably totally jinxed it by saying that. But she's only been waking up once, or even not at all. Hopefully the not-at-all trend continues.

She's going to get a haircut on Friday too. She's got so much hair and now it's getting into her eyes. It doesn't seem like she should need a trim when she's only 6 months old, but she does...

4 Years / Feijoa's / Peaches

Submitted by TiM on

Far out it's been too long since I wrote a diary entry, the time just gets away!
It was our 4 year wedding Anniversary last Thursday. Happy Anniversary to us! Annoyingly I got the flu on Wednesday, so I didn't feel great come Thursday. But thankfully that mostly left me by Saturday night when we when out for dinner to celebrate.

Saturday Peter came over and showed us that the Feijoa's in the back yard were ready. So we sprung into action and went down and collected a few. And by few I mean about 20 bread bag's worth. We put up the "Feijoa's $2 a bag" sign out the front of the house and a little table. We sold them all, along with some quinces, some chillis and 4 bags of figs. Quite impressive really.
The only problem of course is to collect Feijoas you have to crawl around...

6 Months Old

Submitted by TiM on

It was Beth's 6 month birthday yesterday. She celebrated by not wanting to sleep, twice I had to walk her around the block in the pram to get her to snooze. It's a good trick though, it works pretty reliably. Before she knows it she's got her eyes closed. Once she's finally asleep we transfer her from the Pram to her crib and she wakes up for half a second, then realises where she is and goes back to sleep again. This is in stark contrast to just trying to get her to sleep in her crib when she's over-tired, that just results in a lot of very upset crying.

Friday night we went down to Ahurihi for dinner, we got Thai and sat on the beach with Beth. We put her on the blanket and she was just fascinated with the seagulls. She spent about an hour watching them...

Last Week: Homebrew, Baby Club, Furniture, Camp Rusty.

Submitted by TiM on

I went to the Napier Homebrew club last (Wednesday) night! It was interesting, not quite what I was expecting but then again I'm not 100% sure what I was expecting at all. It was a lot of old people, first there was the start of the meeting with a few awards given out, then a talk by one of the members about making beer. Then the tastings commenced, which seemed to be what everyone was waiting for when they got there. I tried 3 beers, all of which I thought were OK. It's all properly scored with a tasting sheet and points, turns out my scores matched fairly closely with the official judge. Who was about 85 and a hard case old lady, June. She was awesome. She's the only certified beer taster the club has, or at least the only one who was there!

Far out it's Monday already...

No Sleep / Dad Arrives

Submitted by TiM on

Oh man. Beth isn't sleeping. Well she is, but for an hour at a time. Both parents are currently quite shattered. I took her for a really early morning walk this morning, she seemed to enjoy that and had a snooze for a while.

Saturday morning I got up early and did some weed spraying in the front garden, just to keep the weeds down until we get a chance to put in the weed matting. It seems like it should be such a simple task, to put down weed matting, but trying to find time with a child that just won't sleep is impossible.

Dad arrived on Saturday night, I went and got him from the airport. I thought I was going to be late to pick him up, and I would have been except that a flock of Geese flew over the runway just as Dad's plane was...

Sarah's Birthday & Trains

Submitted by TiM on

It was Sarah's Birthday on Tuesday. Beth got her a growth chart, which as Sarah rightly pointed out seemed to be more a present for Beth than for Sarah. What can I say, Beth's a baby and she gets easily confused.
I got her The Foodtruck Cookbook and an Apple TV, so she can watch all her favourite shows on the TV instead of the iPad screen.
It was a pretty miserable night weather wise, so we just sat at home and had Chinese for dinner.

Wednesday night went around to Peter and Mary's for a "proper" Birthday party. We had Fish and Chips for dinner, then we played a couple of rounds of Trains. It's called Mexican Trains to be exact. It's a fun game, though no one's ever 100% of the rules so that provides a lot of entertainment in itself.
Peter gets ever so excited playing it...

Wet Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

Quite a miserable weekend in Napier for once, a real change of how it usually is! It rained pretty much all weekend with a few breaks in between.
Saturday we went into town and did a bit of baby shopping, we got a safety swing gate for the bottom of the stairs. Not so much for Bethany at the moment but more for Joseph when he's visiting. But it'll be very handy for Beth in another 12 months too when she starts running around like a mad thing.

Then we caught up with Sarah's friends Jo and Emma for lunch at Groove Kitchen Espresso. Beth was on her best behaviour too, happy and laughing, then she got a bit shirty so I took her for a quick walk and she feel asleep straight away.

We came back home and I bottled the beer I'd put in the fermenter about 4...

Waitangi Day

Submitted by TiM on

It was Waitangi Day yesterday. A public holiday. Beth woke up early, so I took her for a walk up to Taradale and got some coffee. Then I went into Repco to replace the wrong Air Filter I'd bought for the X-Trail. Except it wasn't the wrong one, they checked their catalogue and it was the right one. Turns out I just needed a bit more elbow grease and then it went in. Only slightly embarrassing.

Back at home we put Beth in the Jolly Jumper again. She loves it so much, she can't stop smiling as she dances around in it. It's great too because it tires her out for a snooze.

I mowed all the lawns (always fun) then got out the line trimmer and did all the edging, knocked down all the weeds in the chicken run and down the back and up the side.
Then we...
