Toy Library!

Submitted by TiM on

We went to the Toy Library yesterday and hired some new toys for Beth to play with. It's a little library setup by the Napier Parents group, it's a great idea. We also went to Farmers and bought her a couple of new toys, plus we went to the very excellent "Cool Toys" store in Napier, which is a proper old-school toy store. With interesting things from here and there. We bought her a RubaDub Fountain Float which is this little boat that, when it comes into contact with water, starts to spray a little bit of water from its spout. It's very neat, though it was hard to tell if Beth liked it last night because she got very upset in the bath! Quite unusual, but she didn't sleep much yesterday so we're pretty sure she was just very tired!

Otherwise we just had a quiet day, stayed in...

Catching up on June

Submitted by TiM on

Phew it's been ages! Sorry diary. Beth was back at the Doctor's yesterday, she's been doing little upchucks all the time. Which, being a baby, you'd expect was normal, but it's only just started happening recently. The Dr said we don't have to worry though, it's quite normal.

Her personality has really started to come out a bit more this week. She's started laughing at things a lot more, she waves at everything all the time now. When I was taking her out for a walk tonight she was watching everyone and everything, she used to mostly sit in the pram and just sort of watch as I pushed her, now she's looking left and right, looking at people, waving at sheep, things like that.

I've been ringing Dad most days and nights to see how he's doing this week, he had his Knee operation last Monday and had been...

Taking Beth and Tui to the Dr's!

Submitted by TiM on

Well good news for Beth, her strange red puffy welt thing has mostly gone away. It's not any cause for concern at the moment, she's mostly just grizzly now because of her teeth. Sarah and I noticed a white fleck in the roof of her mouth on Saturday, so there's definitely a tooth slowly trying to come through there.
Friday I worked at home, Sarah took Tui to the Vet for her yearly injections. Though on the way into the Vets she accidentally walked into the Dr's next door, without realising it. It took the receptionist a minute to realise Sarah wanted the vet, explaining "I thought you were trying to kill two birds with one stone". Poor Sarah! Tui was her usual horror self which it comes to going to the vet. She bit Sarah, and Sarah said that the vet lady was bleeding after she came back from...

Rough Day

Submitted by TiM on

It was a rough day (mostly for Sarah) with Beth today. First of all we took her to the Dr's this morning, she had this big red mark on her forehead. It didn't look bad, but it didn't look good either. The Dr said it might just be a skin infection thing, babies get them sometimes. She didn't really sleep much today at all, very grizzly and when she did sleep she only slept for ~1 hour. This afternoon we noticed the red mark was also a bit under her right eye, so we took her back. They said it's...

The Tiida Is Cold!

Submitted by TiM on

In fact we're all cold, it was damn freezing yesterday. But as well as being cold, the Tiida is also sold. A couple came and looked at it on Sunday and took it for a test drive, after a bit of hard bargaining we agreed on a price yesterday so she's out the door! I took it for a Warrant of Fitness this morning at the VTNZ, it passed with no issues which is good, would have been annoying to have to replace the brake pads or something. I didn't think it'd give us much grief though, it's hardly been driven since it got its last WoF.

Poor lovely Beth's feeling a bit miserable at the moment, we think it's her teeth but it's hard to know exactly. She was really upset last night and again tonight, Sarah said that during the day she's not herself, getting very upset quickly...

The Witch

Submitted by TiM on

So it turns out the sleeping lady Sarah went to see is obviously a witch. Because Beth has been sleeping like a champion since! We put her down at 10am and she sleep right through until 12pm pretty much. Sometimes she wakes a little bit earlier, or takes a little longer to settle, but she's having proper sleeps now, not waking up and crying after 30 minutes etc.

The secret seems to be not putting her down so soon after getting her up, which goes against the other advice we were always given which was "If she's rubbing her eyes...

Riding, Sleeping, Mother's Day, Sleeping

5th day of riding to work today and I must say it's getting easier. When I arrived at work today I wasn't the puffing and heaving mess that I was a week ago. I even managed to peddle pretty much all the way without stopping, when I first started I would peddle for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds etc. I can only get better I guess! Plus when I get home I don't walk funny for 30 minutes afterwards.

Sarah went to see a sleep specialist lady yesterday to talk about Beth. She had some really good suggestions that we're going to try, including keeping her to a very strict routine, blacking out her room even during the day so she knows it's sleeping time, not feeding her during the night if she cries and changing up her diet a little bit. So fingers crossed this might her sleeping...

Saturday, 5:30am

Submitted by TiM on

Beth woke up! I'm not too crabbed off though, she's been sleeping through the whole night pretty much every night this week. On Thursday night/Early Friday morning she woke up at midnight and wanted feeding, but after that she slept through until ~6am. So I've been feeling much more human this week.

Back! Just gave her breakfast and put her back down for her early morning snooze. Judging by the noise the baby monitor is making, I don't think I'll be sitting here too much longer.

Work has been good this week, very busy, lots of new stuff to learn. I'm still not very good with all the mobile terminology that gets used, I'm learning a lot more but sometimes I still get confused.
But I have been riding to work! I rode to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It's ~18km there and back, so I rode 54km about last...

Rode to Work!

Submitted by TiM on

I did it! I rode to work. It only took 25 minutes, vs the 10 it would take on the scooter. So an extra 15 minutes, not bad really. I had to content with the sun right in my eyes and the damn buses. They pull past you, then pull in ahead, so you have to go around then. Then they drive past you, pull in ahead, you have to go around them. Rinse and repeat. Still, that's all part of the fun I guess! I know I got up to 30km/h according to my GPS, but for some reason...

Swimming with an 8 Month Old

Submitted by TiM on

I took Beth to swimming lessons today! Usually Sarah takes her, but Sarah had some work on at the same time swimming was, so it was Dad's turn to take her. It was good fun! You arrive, get changed, then jump in the pool (it's very warm). Then we splash and jump out of the water, chase after a toy, swoosh around a bit more, fly up in the air and get dragged around in a circle. She had a smile on her face the whole time which was good, so did most of the other babies.

Back at work last week, was a crazy week. Lot of work on, lots of stuff to do, busy busy. It's good fun though, I've just been given a project to work on that's going to be fun, even though sometimes I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I DO...
