I Vote for a Rollback!

Submitted by TiM on

Hello! It's Saturday afternoon and I'm sitting on the couch. Today we've been down to vote, and the into town for a while before Beth got too tired and we came home. She's got another dose of the flu at the moment, runny nose, coughing in the night. She seems to be in good spirits otherwise, maybe a little quicker to anger than usual.
Sarah and I have been trying to teach that hitting is bad. She seems to get it for a minute, then goes back to hitting again. She's only 1, she'll learn, but it's frustrating!

The upgrade work went ahead this week, no issues with the procedure that I'd written. The only "issue" was that it all had to be rolled back again 2 days later after a lot of crashing! Turns out there's an outstanding issue on the version of code that was selected. At least...

The Asparagus Patch (DOH!)

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah and I spent a good hour yesterday weeding the Asparagus Patch. I hope it's not too late, I didn't realise that it takes ~4 years from seed until you can start harvesting your Asparagus! We only found one shoot the whole time we were pulling out all the weed, I really hope the bulbs are OK and we get some more Asparagus this year. If I'd known that it takes so long to get a usable harvest I've have spent a lot more time looking after it. I feel really bad now, please be OK little Asparaguses.

Waving Goodbye

Submitted by TiM on

We waved goodbye to Granny yesterday as she got on her plane. Beth was at the window waving and waving, and she even tried blowing a kiss as well, which is another thing Sarah has taught her in the last week. Poor Granny said that one of the airline hosties had to give her a hug!

This last week has been really nice weather wise, I rode to work 3 days because it was so sunny and nice! Much better than the week before that was simply miserable.

Sarah and I went out for dinner on Wednesday night to a place called Salt, a seafood restaurant, that Sarah really wanted to try. It was OK, but really nothing special which was a bit of a shame. There was no one there, the staff were around but still absent most of the time. The food was good, but nothing special. Oh...

Family Time

Submitted by TiM on

Last week was a nice week with both Sallee and John here. This morning I waved goodbye to Dad after I dropped him off at Napier Airport, he's flying back home to Hobart today. Mum's here for another week.

During the week I met up with Dad for lunch at Mr D's one day, then the next day I meet up with him and Mum again for coffee at, you guessed it, Mr D's! Sallee and John hired a car for the week too which was handy, Dad was able to get around and get out and about. When he was here last time we had both the Tiida and the X-Trail so he could borrow the Tiida, but alas the trusty ol' Tiida is sold.
I think Dad had a fairly good time here, it's a shame that the weather was so terrible pretty much the whole time he...

Beth's First Birthday Party

Submitted by TiM on

We had a lovely day yesterday. The whole family, with the exception of Jeremy sadly, was at our place. John, Sallee, Peter, Mary, Holly, Adrian, Joseph, Chris and Barbs. It was a rainy day sadly, so the plans for going outside were ruined by wet grass and the constant fear of rain. But it didn't matter too much, at least inside it was warm and Beth could crawl around the carpet without getting wet or cold.

Sarah made the most amazing cake. 3 layers and spectacular icing job! Everyone had a really good day I think, maybe not Joseph...

Pat Your Tum

Submitted by TiM on

I taught Beth "If you're happy and you know it, pat your tum" the other night, now she'll pat her tummy on command in the bath. Though she's now confused and "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands" has also become the tum! It's funny though. She seems like she's growing and learning every day, she gets annoyed with Sarah now because she wants to fed herself with the spoon. The only problem is she can't quite figure out how to use the spoon, but she wants to. Sarah has to give her a spoon and have a second spoon to fed her, slowing the whole process down!

I had a good Birthday bash on Saturday at The Puketapu, thanks Holly, Adrian and Joseph, and Peter and Mary for attending and your lovely presents. I hope I can brew some tasty beer with the malts I...

Hippy Biffday To Me!

Submitted by TiM on

Happy Birthday to me! Woo! Had a great day, Sarah bought me a watch I wanted, and has been working on a really cool seat/table for outside. Beth and I went and sat on it this morning and watched the world go by, but only for a minute because it was freezing cold this morning.
Sarah brought into work a beautiful moist chocolate cake after lunch, which I had two slices and so did a couple of my workmates.

Thanks everyone who rang/texted or posted something on Facebook for me! I had a good day. I woke up to Beth at 6am, when I went into her a room there was a card from here waiting propped up against the bed! She's a clever chicken.

I was late to pick up Beth from childcare last Thursday, I thought I was supposed to be picking her up at 5pm but I...

More Wellington

Submitted by TiM on

Hello, here I am in Wellington again. I've got the flu this time to make it even more fun, joy of joys. That's nothing though, Sarah's got the flu and has to look after Beth by herself, and Beth's got the flu as well. The poor little thing, she doesn't really understand what's going on, all snotty and miserable and finding it hard to sleep. She's not actually that miserable most of the time, she's in good spirits and pretty happy, it's just sleeping that's hard for her. It is hard to get to sleep when you're all coughy and finding it hard to breath.

When I arrived back in Napier on Friday afternoon we went for Icecreams along Ahururi. Beth watched the seagulls and played with sand (the very gritty black sand) for the first time. She kept picking it up and watching it fall through her fingers, then...

Curtains, Standing, Wellington

Submitted by TiM on

Hello diary sorry it's been so long since I last spoke to you. We got new curtains, they're really nice. They keep the rooms warmer, make them seem bigger and are an immense improvement over the horrible things that we used to have.

Beth has been growing in big steps it seems, she's so excited about everything at the moment. She's pulling herself up onto tables, the couches, the toy basket. She took the little Dolly pram Mum bought her for a few steps on Sunday. And she's so full of energy at the moment. She never seems to want to sit still. Though having said that, she's never wanted to sit still before so that's not a big surprise.
She's started to try and talk/reply back to use when we speak to her. On the way back from Tairua Mary was singing "Row row row your boat" to her...
