Painted Rooms

Submitted by TiM on

We've had painters in the last two days. They did Beth's room and the new baby's room. And also they painted over the red wallpaper and the flower wallpaper in the landing area. It looks so much better now, all the glow-in-the-dark stickers are out of spare (new baby's) room too. It looks really nice. I'd love to say I had some sort of part in organising or doing anything really, but I didn't. Sarah did it all.

Beth's doing well! She's been a bit off colour for the last week, but seems to be getting back on track now. She's still waking up around 11-12 at night and wanting "Milkies! Milkies!" but hopefully this is a phase that'll pass. She just isn't eating with her usual gusto and instead seems to be relying on this top-up milk to get her through the night. Not sure why she's not eating...

Dentist Visit

Submitted by TiM on

Went to the Dentist yesterday. First time in probably 4 years? I mean apart from when I went a few weeks ago to get my chipped tooth fixed. I was pretty nervous he was going to peer in there and go "Holy Shit, Sir. This is going to finance my Porsche!" But actually he just scraped some buildup off, did a bit of plink plinking with that little stabby thing all Dentists have, took some X-Rays for future reference and said I could go, my mouth was in very good condition, chew away sir. Or something like that. So that was good, I was very happy. I guess following The Onion's Dental Hygiene Tips has really paid off! "Brushing should always be done up and down, not with violent stabbing motions." Amen.

Nepal is horrible. The pictures on the TV make you feel so sad and helpless. The first thing...

Busy Work, Colder Days, Unwell Child

Submitted by TiM on

Remembering to update this thing always gets away from me. Work has been super busy, the project that I've been working on compressed in time and so it was all hands to the pump for a few days there, did a couple of long nights on a document getting it ready for our customer. Good thing is I'm pretty pleased with the work that we've delivered, even though it's not quite over yet, still have to deploy it and ensure it works OK etc.

This is another long weekend that's crept up, I hardly even knew it was a long weekend until the middle of the week. Nice to have a surprise day off though, never going to complain about that.

Beth hasn't been herself the last week. She's been waking up a lot at night, demanding milk "Milkies! Milkies!" and not going back to sleep until it's provided. We're...

Tooth Repair

Submitted by TiM on

I went to the dentist yesterday, the repaired the little chip on my front tooth. They said it happens as you get older (What? I'm "Getting Older???") that your teeth can wear a bit fine at the ends and bits can, you know, freakin' snap off. Which is what happened to me. Anyway after 20 minutes of water drilling/cleaning, magical applications of glues and blue lights and all sorts of dental wizardry I now have a normal looking front tooth again. So that's good. I didn't get a proper checkup though, which I confessed to the front desk lady and she talked me into going back next week for an actual examination/checkup. Ok that's not quite true, I realised myself I should have a checkup.

Finally getting over this cold. It's been terrible, none of us have been feeling right. Beth's getting a lot better, though still charging around with...

Slugish Weekend

Submitted by TiM on

We're still all a bit sick. I still have a sore throat and don't feel great, Sarah's sore and tired and Beth has a runny nose. But Beth seems to be mostly over it otherwise, she's back eating again which is good. "More! More!" was the cry this morning when she'd eaten all her rice bubbles.
Yesterday we helped Holly and Adrian move house. I unloaded stuff from the truck along with a big cast of other people, Sarah helped babysit. With all the people helping, the truck was unloaded in a record time. After that, Holly bought us all pies and some other tasty treats, then I came home because I wasn't going to be much help as Holly and Adrian figured out what went into what room. At home we sold a 20kg box of Feijoas to a lady who'd left a note in the feijoa box last...

Sick

Submitted by TiM on

We're all a bit sick. Beth's still sick, though she seems fairly happy still. Still blowing lots of snot bubbles, but she'll come up to you and ask to have her noise blown. Or grizzle if you don't realise it needs blowing. I've got the same flu, I feel pretty miserable. And I think Sarah's coming down with it too. Argh! The hardest part now of Beth being sick is that she refuses to eat most of the things she'd normally eat. Breakfast? Nope. Toast? Nope. She only seems to like Milk and Bananas.

Beth's going through a phase where...

Happy Easter

Submitted by TiM on

Wow, it's been a while since my last update. Last weekend was the Cricket World Cup Final and I haven't even written about that. That's just slack Timothy, slack. So, well, we won the World Cup. We headed over to Holly and Adrian's for dinner that night, I walked up to meet Adrian, Cheese and Peter in the Clive Pub. I was wearing my Austrlian Cricket Shirt with a bonus Australian Flag wrapped around me. I thought walking into the Clive Pub I'd be met with all sorts of harassment, but actually there weren't nearly as many people in there as I was expecting, probably 20 or so? They'd even setup a little grandstand in there, but no one was sitting on it. I suppose they were hoping more people would head down later one when the match got exciting, but as we all know now that never really happened...

Watching the Cricket

Submitted by TiM on

We've watched the last few world cup matches. The one for New Zealand to get into the final was a totally nail biter, the whole country was on the edge of their seat right up until the second to last ball where he pounded a 6. Last night the Aussie v India match had the makings of being just as close, India got out of the gate well and seemed to be on target to make it an interesting match, but then they just didn't have any steam and the rate just keep piling up and up. Plus two amazing run outs by us Aussies.

So it's an Aussie v NZ final on Saturday. I'm nervous already.

Big Bowl of Green Soup

Submitted by TiM on

I can't believe I forgot in my last diary to talk about pool. The big, green pool. When we got back from Fiji, Peter mentioned that he'd noticed the pool was "going a bit green" while he mowed our lawns. And yes I need to say a huge thank you to Peter at this point, who mowed every lawn on our property while we were away! Thank you very much, that was very kind.
I had a look at the pool the next morning and yes, it was a little bit utterly bright green. Uhoh. So I did the usual thing I do when I'm not sure what to do with the pool, which is dump a crapload of Chlorine in there. Which after a few days, hadn't worked. So I put more in. A few days later, still nothing. So on the Friday, 5 days later, I took a...

The Cyclone That Wasn't

Submitted by TiM on

Cyclone Pam was supposed to hit us today. Lots of warnings, lots of buildup. Especially terrible for Vanuatu, I've seen photos of places that we visited and there's no much left of some of them, it's pretty terrible. But we didn't get anything in Hawke's Bay. A bit of rain, but nothing major. Not much wind at all, as I look outside at the trees they're still. I expected at least a bit more foof, we have winds 10 times as strong as this and it's just a "windy weekend" type thing. Anyway, I shouldn't really complain, it's just a bit "cry wolf" but they're only trying to protect us in case it did come inland I guess.

Beth went to a new childcare lady today, because Jenny's away. And Sarah's in Auckland, so Beth had to go somewhere! I was a bit worried drooping her off, would she be...
