Theo's a Week Old

Submitted by TiM on

Theo's a week old today, so Claire came to weigh him. She nearly fell over with shock when she realised he's gained 400 grams since he was born. For a newborn, that's pretty amazing. He was only 3.185 when he was born, so he's put on something like an eighth of his weight again. Or more, or less. I'm bad at maths.
We've had a couple of much better nights since the last post. He's getting a better sleep now we're putting more blankets on him and he's in an enclosed crib now, with a softer mattress. Claire said to us on the last visit he probably wasn't sleep great if was on a hard mattress and if he was cold. Certainly the changes we made on her advice seem to have helped quite a bit, he's had a few times when he's been hard to get back to sleep...

The Days Are Long (The Nights Are Longer)

Submitted by TiM on

Theo's doing well. He's especially active during a certain part of the day. It's just a shame that that part of the day is the middle of the night. Still, he had a better night last night after some advice from Claire that we don't sleep him on a firm mattress, rather a nice soft snuggly one. Plus she said that he needed more blankets, so we did that too. And he slept better last night, he would go to sleep after a couple of feeds. The night before however, well, that was a nightmare. He'd wake up, Sarah would feed him, he'd go to sleep so I'd put him down and about 5 minutes later, he'd wake up. Crying. Wanting MORE feeding. A few times he'd wait ~15 minutes before waking back up again, which is the worst because by then both Sarah and I had managed to fall...

Feeding Well

Submitted by TiM on

Theo is feeding really well. The first night at home with him was pretty rough, he would wake up, feed, then we'd put him back to sleep but just as we thought he was off to sleep, he'd be awake and wanting to be fed again. Which meant little sleep for Mum and Dad. But last night was much better. We bathed him (first ever bath) and then put him in his crib that had been pre-warmed with a hot pack. That seemed to do him well, but he did wake up not too soon after we went to sleep. But each time Sarah fed him, he seemd to go back to sleep for a couple of hours which was good.
Beth's been interested in him, but only passingly. She can say "Theo" really well which is nice.
Granny and Bilby have been a real help, Granny just spent 20...

Theodore Harman

Submitted by TiM on

Welcome to the World Theodore James Harman. Born at 1:22am on the 13th of July 2015, weighing 7 pounds.
What a crazy few days it's been. Sarah started having labour pains on Saturday night, just after we'd gotten back from a night out in Havelock North (Mexican then we watched a movie called Man Up)
Sunday we just hung out, I finished mowing lawns and that sort of house stuff. Sunday night went around to Peter and Mary's for dinner (with Sallee and Bilby) and Sarah's labour pains went from "this is annoying" to "Ow ow this hurts ow". We came home, put Beth back to bed and said "Thanks for looking after Beth!" to Mum and Bill, then headed to the hospital.
Once we got to the Hospital Sarah was in quite a lot of pain, but when Claire checked her she said she wasn't even in labour! This...

Granny and Billby Arrive

Submitted by TiM on

Phew! Few days since my last update, whoopsie.

Monday I stayed home sick because I'd been up half the night with a sore stomach. Beth had also been up half the night coughing, hacking and just being silly. She really didn't want to sleep, singing to herself, counting loudly, demanding milkies and that we "read a bookie"

When we picked her up from Jenny's Monday afternoon Jenny told us she'd had no sleep at all that day, not good, because we were going to go and pickup Grnany and Billby from the airport that night and we wanted her to be happy to see them, not beside herself in tears due to being over tired. Still, not much you can do.
We went to the Airport and Beth was actually pretty good. She was looking forward to seeing Granny and Billby, though when they came off the plane she wasn't...

The Bubbles Incident

Submitted by TiM on

Yesterday morning (I forgot to write this up yesterday) Beth threw her whole bowl of Rice Bubbles on the ground. Full. With Milk etc in there. She's done that sort of thing to Sarah a few times, but it's the first time I've been feeding her that she's done it. Needless to say I wasn't happy with her and I told that. I then gave her the silent treatment except for telling her "Now Daddy is going to have to clean up this mess." After a few minutes she knew she was in big trouble because she kept saying "Daddy Cuddle! Daddy Cuddle!" but I wasn't giving her one.
We mentioned the incident to her again later in the day and she looked at the floor and got really sad. We felt quite bad having bought it up again.

This morning when I got her out of bed and I...

Poor Postie. Fall Down. Feel Better. Lady Door.

Submitted by TiM on

When I got home last night the bag of post was still on the front step. I thought that was odd, it means the postman hadn't been past our place that day to collect it. I said to Sarah when I walked in I hoped the postie hadn't been knocked off his bike or something. Sarah and I debated what to do with it, should we leave it outside? Should we bring it in? We decided that because we're just the drop off point, with not actual responsibility for the bags, we'd just leave it.
While I was bathing Beth, there was a knock at the door and Sarah answered it. Turns out the poor postman had been knocked off his bike! Beth heard all the talking, knew there was someone at the door, so for the next 10 minutes in the bath she tried to process all this by...

Paint Hands

Submitted by TiM on

When Beth was up and running around yesterday morning she touched the Dolls House roof that Sarah had painted the night before. We'd expected that it'd be dry by the morning, but it was still a bit tacky and wet, a bit of the black paint came off on her hands. I was vacuuming her room when she ran in with a concerned look on her face, showing me the black on her hands. Because it was an oiled based paint, I had to get the turps out, splash a little bit on a paper towel and clean her hand.
This obviously left an imprint on her because she mentioned the whole "Hand dirty, Daddy fix it" story about 10 times yesterday, funny little chicken
She must be going through a real growth spurt at the moment because both nights by 6pm she's been a zombie she's so tired. And...

Dolls House

Submitted by TiM on

Sarah bought Beth a little Dolls house during the week. Beth's loving it so far, though she doesn't really love the little people or anything. She just loves taking all the items in the house (staircase, toilets, people, beds etc) out of the house, then poking them, one by one, back into the house through one of its main windows.
She broke the door off it accidentally the other day, and bought it to me while I was in the shower with a sad "Broken, Broken" story to tell me. It was easy enough to reattach though, it wasn't actually broken, just unclipped.

Yesterday morning Beth and I borrowed Adrian's trailer and went into town. We went via the Pool Shop to buy a new vacuum head and handle, since our other one broke. Luca has been over a few times to ask us if we've gotten it replaced yet...

You Dirty Rat

Submitted by TiM on

We (well, pretty much) finished setting up the Baby's Room on Sunday night. As part of that, I went into the attic area that's off our bedroom to get the boxes of Baby stuff that we've been storing in there. They've been in there for about a year and we'd even looked at the stuff in there last weekend. However, THIS weekend when we go to get them out, a freakin' dirty RAT has been in there, chewing stuff, shreading stuff and pooping and peeing on stuff. Ugh. We had to throw out a lot of little toys/things that Beth had when she was a baby. Bye bye stuffed singing Caterpillar. Bye Bye various other small things. Thankfully nothing super precious, but still very annoying. I put some down Rat Bait on Sunday night and then last night I put down two massive big Rat Traps. Huge things that'd take...
