I'm Going Back!

Submitted by TiM on

Well.

After all that's happened today I'm being sent back to New Zealand!

No, we didn't have any network faults. It's just we're getting nowhere fast here. So I'm back to NZ tomorrow and then back to Aussie sometime next week. Or sometime when all the network stuff is finally setup.

Funky!

Arrrrghhh!!!!

This rant is totally related to my work in Sydney.

I don't represent anything I say here to be fact, just my thoughts and observations (said because I think some people from Telstra are reading my Diary)

It just gets worse and worse over here. It now looks like I'll be here until at least the end of next week. Even then people are fairly unsure that half of what we need will have been delievered. It's possible I might be living the next fortnight in my hotel room. Thank god I know people here in Sydney. And I'm probably being a bit of a profit of doom, but after the phone call I just had, trust me, it's justified.

I'm currently sitting in the Chatswood Internet Cafe anyway. I can't do anything, because I'm not allowed on site because (get this) I haven't done a two hour induction course...

Big Long Rambling Entry Written Over 3 Attempts.

Submitted by TiM on

Here is today's Diary entry. Not posted when it was written, which is currently 4:30pm. I don't have any network connectivity here at all and I'm SO bored shitless.

As I pointed out this morning we had another major network outage again this morning. It's in the media now, as I thought it would be. I'll add a link here when I find one. (As promised.)

Thankfully it's not going to affect what I'm doing here, but I don't think it's going to matter anyway. Myself and Jason are bashing our heads against the wall here trying to get stuff done. Jason says he could have done in three hours what's it's taken the Telstra guy 2 days to do. And he's not even finished yet. Plus he tried to force the wrong cable into our router and broke it. It's a right disaster at the moment. I'm fairly...

Another 5 hour outage this morning. I was yanked out of bed at 5:30-6am approx.
That's 4 major problems in 4 days. What can I say? Work is going to be very unfun next week.

It's Hot.

Submitted by TiM on

It's so hot here in Sydney today. Really hot, humid and sticky as. Thankfully I've been inside in a nice air conditioned building for most of the day, so I haven't had to put up with that shit!

Did anyone see the cricket yesterday? That catch that McGrath took was one of the best (and most lucky) catches I've ever seen in my life. Bounced out of one hand and into the other.

Work is going very slowly. I've not done much today, I can't really help install gear physically and that's mostly what we've needed to do. At least I now know where the Chatswood exchange is. It's right opposite the Chatswood train station so our ride into town is already sorted for us!

Oh yea, and the RSL club is right next door, so guess where we went for lunch today.

All you kiddies with a laptop try...

Holy Fek

Today was a nightmare. We (TelstraClear) went off the air for 4 hours. Totally and completly, our network was done and unreachable from the Internet. Not to mention a number of other problems it caused.

I got woken up at about 8/9am by the boss calling me in a panic. Tony was also away so it was even more stressful. Finally after a lot of hard work by a lot of people it's all going again.

I went out last night to checkout Sydney. Ended up with a bunch of Kiwis who were pretty cool. We walked around for ages trying to find a Kareoke club. But we never found one. Was a good laugh though. I got home about 3am.

Friday night I went over to Mum's place, she cooked a really wonderful tea as Mum alway manages to do. Saturday we just sat around and talked, but then...

Here I Am In Sydney.

Submitted by TiM on

Well here I am in Sydney. It's very humid today, I've been walking around the city centre trying to find an internet cafe. Finally I have found one, and it's so crappy and slow to connect to anything it's almost not worth being here. No one is still too sure exactly who I'm supposed to be meeting today, the one guy who does know this isn't answering his phone.

I know I'm meeting up with someone at 4pm this arvo, so that's all that really matters, and it's not like I haven't got stuff to go on with regardless.

Coming into customs last night was fun, they wanted to take my big expensive computer thingy off me because I didn't have any paperwork for it. I knew it was going to cause me problems and sure enough, soon as I started to go through customs I was pounced on with...

Finally!

Submitted by TiM on

Finally got myself a plane ticket and a hotel. I'll probably stay quite a few nights with Mum and Bill, but my hotel will be handy for some nights etc when I'm working really late and it'll be easier to get to it than back to Mum's place. I'm flying out tomorrow night at 6:30pm, get in Sydney about 7:45pm (Australian Time, that's 9:45pm NZ time)

I'm still at work at the moment! Bitch moan complain. I hate these customer cutovers that never quite go as you'd hope they go. It's especially annoying because I know that Tony is out on the piss with one of our other customers! He gets the free beer, I get the unhappy customer. I get a trip to Sydney though, so I guess I should shutup.

I'm starving though, I wish I could go home.

Muppet!

Ever wondered why I'm such a Headcase...

Get Out Your Scanners!

Submitted by TiM on

Me and Emi were talking about boobies this morning (as we all do, don't we?) and it made me remember this really cool site called BoobScan. I'm not sure if I've linked the site before, but if not you should check it out. If only to groan loudly and go "What the fark?"

We went out for tea last night to this cool little cafe quite close to my place. It's also next door to a cinema, but there was nothing starting by the time we'd finished out (tasty) meal. Thai Pizza with lots of chilli. Mmmmm. And they also do takeaway, which is a good thing.

Then we went and played a bit of pool, Emi managed to spot a pool hall while we were driving around looking for one. It was a bit smokey and the table we played on was Tiny, but it was still fun...

Err, Australia?

Submitted by TiM on

So I'm ment to be flying to Australia on Thursday. So today I decide I'd better ask about my tickets etc, seeing as no one has let me know what's going on.

"Tickets? What tickets? What trip?"

"Oh Shit. Panic!"

People have now realised they've "forgotten" about me, so now they're all doing the mad run-around-like-our-head-is-chopped-off trick trying to organise it. Hopefully I'm getting put up in a super swanky hotel though overlooking Darling Harbour. And flying business class. I've never flown business class before. I don't think it'll really happen this time either, but it'd be nice.

In other news, the voicemail on my desk phone got activated today. Only took 5 months. But hey, it's to be expected, I mean, we're only a DAMN TELCO!

I also asked if they could alias my name on my phone (the name that comes up on others phones when you call...
