We're In The News Again!

Submitted by TiM on

Sigh. We've made the news again for reasons that are all bad. I'm getting so frustrated sometimes working here, crazy decisions like that one being made without any consultation with the technical people. I sent an email expressing my frustration about this to our group today and it's good to see that my manager has forwarded it up the chain. Where no doubt it'll be laughed at and ignored.

Speaking of laughing, Sarah and I watched Series Two of "The Office" last night. I've never seen it before but I've had a number of people tell me I should watch it. Having seen it I can now see why it was so highly recommended, it's fantastic comedy. The cringe factor is so high my heart was racing and I was figeting. It's great to see that people are still making really good TV shows, even if the mainsteam media chooses...

Hello!

Just a quick update to let you know I'm still alive. I'm almost over my stupid head cold, I had Thursday off at well (well I actually went into work then got told to come home again)
Friday was just a normal work day and today, woohoo, it's the weekend! Sarah and I are going down to the corramandel (sp?) for the day/night, one of Sarah's old flatmates has a shack down there. I've never been to the corramandel but I hear from so many people that it's really nice.
So, have a good weekend everyone! Be good!

Head Coldies

I've been at home all day with a headcold, I could have gone to work (I'm not deathly sick or anything) but I didn't want to give it to all my workmates. Though by the sound of them of them when I spoke to them they've already got it (or they gave it to me, mongrels)

Not much to talk about, the last night of Beer School was pretty good. We got a special tour of the brewery and to taste the brews we'd down a few weeks before. Our super tasty "Lime Rock Lager" wasn't too bad at all, though it needs a little longer to mature before it's drinkable.

Bad news for TelstraClear, we are not going to get access to Telecom's local loop. Personally I don't think we have any right to something another company spent a lot of money building, but I guess in the name...

It's pay day tomorrow and I'm hanging out bigtime waiting for it to roll around! I had to scrap together $5 out of my car today to get myself some lunch money. I'm just a real munter and managing my money, try as I might. One day I'll get it right. I'm going to pay off my dehumidifier this time and probably buy myself an iPod. Or a new car stereo... Driving around with no music really sucks.

Does anyone have any good recipies for brewing Ginger Beer? There's lots of different ways of doing it out there and I don't know which one to go with. I want to make about 12-16 bottle all in one go. There's ways even to do it without yeast but I don't want to try that. Does this one look tasty to anyone who's brewed it before?

Had a good weekend, Saturday morning...

Quickies

I bottled 11 bottles of beer tonight, threw the rest out. I'll give it a taste test in a few weeks, see if I threw out good stuff or bad.

Craigs car wasn't working today (wouldn't start) so I did a trick someone showed me ages ago, you bash the starter motor to see if that helps. Turns out I was bashing the alternator. I feel ok though, Craig's mechanic mate came over and did exactly the same thing.

I hate those damn Ugg Boot wearing people. These girls get around now wearing Ugg Boots and it's COOL! What the fark is with that? It pisses me off no end, I'm not quite sure why it pisses me off so much. It's like that damn Paul Frank monkey, don't even get me started on how much I hate that damn thing.

I think the site upgrade is complete, I've worked out all the little bugs that I found along the way. If you notice anything that isn't working please take a moment to let me know, that way I can fix it and let the developers of the software know as well.

My beer that I pitched last Friday is still sitting in the brew machine (I've drawn "Tim's Brew Machine" on it in big green letters) so I think I'll probably have to throw it out. It doesn't bother me, it was just an experiment to see if it would work alright or not. The temperature in the room keeps fluctuation all over the place though, mostly it gets way to cold at night which the little yeasties hate. Poor yeasties.

I bought some super tasty soup for lunch today, Sarah made it last Friday night and it's SO...

Palmerston North

Submitted by TiM on

As you probably know I've been down in Palmerston North with Sarah for her graduation.

We flew down on Saturday afternoon and got picked up from the airport by Sarah's friend Sarah. Confusing huh? We went to her place and had a few drinks then got dressed up and went into town. Not a bad night, lots of bad dancing on my part as per usual.

Sunday morning we got up and went to find our Motel. What a flash joint it was too, really fancy with a big spa pool and a huge living area. Oh yea and a really nice bed. The owner of the Motel seemed most annoyed when I referred to it as a double bed, he looked at me funny and said "Noo, it's a super-king bed." Right, sorry Mr Owner guy didn't mean to slander you so badly.

We didn't do much with the...

How to become an Ornithologist

My flatmate John sent me (and Sarah) the following email this morning:

Take a look at the two birds below. Study them closely and watch their habits......... See if you can spot which of the two is the FEMALE . It can be done. Even by one with no skills whatsoever in bird watching.

Sarah's reply: Is it the one who looks bored and unimpressed with all the crap coming out of the male's mouth?

Not much has been happening since I last posted an entry, poor Sarah was in the Accident and Emergency again with bad asthma, so I left work to go and make sure she'd be alright. She seems to be much better today which is a good thing, we're flying down to Palmerston North tomorrow afternoon for her graduation ceremony on Monday.

Well, I passed! But I only got %70 which is the exact mark required to pass. So I'm pretty damn pissed off at myself, even though everyone at work says I should be happy. The main reason I'm pissed off was the RIP Routing section, I got ZERO in! I'm really good at RIP, that's what I don't understand. I'm going to follow up and see if I can't get hold of the questions and what I answered, to see if a) I'm really stupid or b) It marked me wrong. I highly suspect A though, it's all marked via computer so I don't think it's going to fuck up one section and not the rest.

So yaaah, I passed. But I'm still fucked off with myself for my crap score, just scraping in at the lowest possible position.
